For those of you saying that Jobs said no and because of that it wont happen. I remember Jobs once said that apple probably wouldn't do well in the cellphone business and look at the iPhone now! Steve Jobs has said no to things several times and in the most part these things he's said no to have become a reality. :apple:    :( :) :D ;) :p

Not gonna happen. The article was written august of 2010 and christmas has already passed so all you had to do was read.

I have an iPad1 and a black berry play book(7").
I use the ipad over the playbook EVERY time. The 7" is far to small to be usable for me.

What poloponies said.

SJ has said lots of things and then done a complete u-turn later. Immature types call it lying, but as its business related I call it marketing and an ability to adapt.

Wouldn't personally be that interested in a 7" iPad, but I don't fall into the trap that so, so many fall into, that everything is all about ME! If a market grows for such sized devices, it's only natural an iPad equivalent may appear in a few years.

Main personal beef with 7 or 8" is that it's too big for pockets, forcing use of a bag, in which case I'd rather go large. The Galaxy Note has stirred my interest, at 5.3" it's pretty much at the limit of still being pocketable, while offering high res/high ppi. Very niche methinks, but a niche I'd like to subscribe too...hence why I'm expecting delivery of a Note later this week :)

Im partly motivated by the knowledge we’ll most likely never see an Apple phone even approach this size - waaaay too niche for Apple and I can totally understand others reservations - but I would love a phone that big. Keeping hold of my iPhone 4 as backup though and deffo keeping my beloved iPad 2, big fan of ios5.

Well they could do a complete redesign so a 7 inch does fit in pocket(Cutting down on that bezel)Anyone seen pictures of the Galaxy 7.7? Its turning a lot of heads mostly because of its super amoled display.Rumor is its not suppose to be released in states.Apples retina on a seven inch would grab that interest fast.
I have been looking at 7 inch pads just because ipad is too big to take out. With some creative planning a 7 inch can fit into some coat pockets.
Its a market and im sure Apple will find a way into it that will blow away competition.Hope its soon.
Galaxy note is a phone,if it was just a tablet I would seriously take it into consideration.

7" tablets in the typical 16:9/16:10 format are one thing, but an iPad Jr at 7" 4:3 would be a completely different animal. Although still not ideal for movies, that 4:3 screen ratio is one reason the current iPad is so popular. Let the Jr. have the same pixel resolution as iPad Sr., then sell it for $299. 25 million or more later Steve will be clapping in his grave for Apple not thinking "What would Steve do?".

Great plan.Add a replaceable battery and they may pull in 50 million.
