The iPad is a perfect example of how Apple marketing is the genius of the company. Apple can no longer compete with the competition. They have to overwhelm it. The iPad will not do that. At least in this configuration.
Sure diehard apple fans will flock to it's defense and some will be sold but in the long run if it does'nt change significantly it will not be the "magical" device it was touted as.
You cannot ignore the fact that it is only a bigger iPod touch. Simple as that!
What kind of screen brightness are we talking about here? 10 hours on full brightness is impressive.
I will give you the campers, and maybe the backpackers even, but I definitely don't see mountain climbers bringing an iPad for a quick and casual session of large screen DoodleJump on top of the Mount Everest...
The vast vast majority of people that would be interested in a device like this will be in the vicinity of a socket at some point or another during the day...
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but:
Is listening to music while reading a textbook considered multi-tasking?
People want MORE multitasking, to be accurate. (OS 4.0? I wouldnt want it on my iPhone but I would on an iPad.)
That would, unfortunately, thoroughly ruin the experience having to connect to yet another computer to pick songs or force you to have another computer turned on. Guess time will tell.
You're right. Comparing to the Kindle isn't the right one... the Kindle DX is the comparison people should be using due to the same Screen Size of 9.7", Book Reading, of course and Price -- $10 more and you get the iPad and SOOO much more. I think the reading experience is going to be better. You don't have to wait for the pages to turn so you can read faster and with the adjust to display brightness, you'll be able to fine-tune your reading needs quickly.lastly, i wish people would stop comparing this to the kindle. my wife has a kindle, she loves it, and i think for pure reading, the kindle might still win (e-ink just so much better than a backlit screen). but the iPad is so much more than the kindle that it's unfair to the iPad to be compared to the kindle.
10 hrs. of continuous video is a lot. that means 10 hours of using pages/iwork/keynote, so if i have to write or build presentations on long flights this would be great.
most of my flights are trans-continental (5 hrs.) or to hawaii (6 hrs.), so i think it's amazing that this device can be used the entire time with battery to spare.

Jobs sounded like an over-defensive douchebag when he replied.
Wow, that's a good idea! Do they do that because the earth's circumference gets smaller as you get close to the poles? It took just around 14 hours direct from JFK to Tokyo. They went westbound up and over northern Canada, crossed the northern tip of Alaska, hugged the eastern coast of Russia and down to Tokyo.
No. Some airlines are pretty good, others spotty, others horrible. Southwest doesn't have them at all.
Check http://www.seatguru.com/ for maps showing which seats have power outlets - organized by airline and equipment type.

no, they do it because both Tokyo and NY are in the northern hemisphere, so its shorter to go over the pole (well, almost) than to simply 'go west'
its the 'great circle'
If the Kindle, B&N, and Stanza iPhone apps are updated for the iPad, that will cover most of my existing library of ebooks.
So basically, this guy isn't considering all the facts. Apple isn't going to tout 10 hours if it gets less than 3 like he claims![]()
