The Surface Pro is a full blown laptop in a tablet form factor. The iPad is not in the same league. Sorry boys and girls, but our beloved iPad is about to get spanked. A MacBook Air would be the closest competition.

Well it'll run full Windows 8 so obviously. There are laptops that run Win8 going for around $300 on average. Then again, I no longer care about laptops. Just desktops, tablets and smartphones. I wouldn't pay $800 for that thing, even if it could make me breakfast in bed.

if only it had integrated mobile options

if only it had 10 hours battery life on the Pro

if only the app market was attractive for developers

if only the 16:9 aspect ratio didn't make portrait mode so awkward to hold

if only the kickstand had more than one viewing angle

if only the back logo didn't rub off in less than a week

if only the lack of success of the lumia & zune didn't sour the view of their newest attempt at catching up

The Surface is for... hmm, not quite sure who the tablet is for.

The Nexus 10 is the best all-around value for the buck. Best screen, best operating system (opinion, but it's shared by many), 32 gigs for 499. C'mon.

Both of their app markets pale in comparison, however, to Apple's.

Until both tablets have app offerings on par with the app store they'll lose every time.

And this is coming from a Nexus 7 lover.

Today I was looking for NFS: Most Wanted on Google Play. Nope.

Only reason why I'm thinking of doing away with my N7 in favor of a mini.

No intrest in surface, cool but not for me, my ipad mini will be here Friday.

I've decided I'm not rooting for a competitor just for the sake of it. I would hate to be stuck developing for Windows platform yet again....and IE without a doubt is the worst piece of **** browser software on a tablet I've ever encountered. The experience was so bad I'm still scratching my head. The build quality of Surface is plasticky and cheap....which I was not expecting. I did like the idea of going back and fourth between regular Windows and RT. Overall the tablet itself was very light and the keyboard while cheap looking worked for the most part minus the track pad.

I will be buying a Nexus tablet but it's purely for development reasons. I have no intentions of developing for Windows on any level until they upgrade their browser at least once a year, move to a webkit base and/or make their implementation of javascript consistent as the other browsers and platforms. I don't like the 16:9 screen orientation for MSFT and Android tablets. To me that really is a flaw. Most of what people do is surf the net and read on their tablets. 16:9 only makes sense if you plan to do video watching exclusively on your tablet.

The one thing Surface has ahead of the others is removable storage. Granted, it is MicroSD, I personally would prefer SD because it could double as a camera card reader. And, of course, there really is no way to use external storage in iOS without a JB. But never running out of room? Being able to carry days worth of easily watchable video in a matchbox? I could really go for that.

One things for sure, there's a new player in town which will fragment the market again. Windows 8 tabs and phones will take sales away form both Apple and Android.

Fortunately, I don't think we will see any other major OS's for tabs and phones, so it should sit at these three only. It will be interesting to see market shares in 5 years time.

Nexus 10 is just another big screen Android tablets Samsung released over the course of last few years. It will never be a big impact on Ipad since they wanna match us in the apps department = fail, or easy to use department = fail.

Surface can prove to be a bigger threat in my opinion. I think Microsoft made it as close as possible to a PC laptop and it can run 10 hours battery. People not gonna buy it for apps but for the ecosystem same as IOS. it is very close to a PC but easier because of the touch screen. Smart cover keyboard looks cool.

What else is new in Nexus 10 beside its better specs and larger screen?

Not at all interested in the Nexus 10. But the Surface might be something to look at. It doesn't really seem like a tablet though. More like a netbook with detachable keyboard. Have to wait and see how app development goes.

Love the specs and price of the N10 but dislike the design. The bezel is massive and the back is hideous.

The Surface is a cool device. It's like a full blown laptop. However, I'm not a fan of Windows. I don't really care about the limit app selection as I rarely use apps. The interface looks the best, IMO.

Because you're not going to try one out or read some reviews before you sell your ipad?

No. The same when I bought my iPad 1 and iPhone without trying it or waiting for reviews. Surface pro will replace both my iPad and laptop. I can't wait!

Well I have the iPad and Surface RT. The Surface feels just so much faster and more productive. Yes, the iPad has it slaughtered in apps right now, but one would have to assume that Microsoft is now going to push hard in this area. Software is what they do after all.

If MS can get the Modern UI apps going, they have a SERIOUS contender on the market. The Surface does some really fantastic things.

2. Serious Video Editing (I make Youtube vids and use an HD-PVR hooked to my laptop via USB and the Sony Movie Studio software

Serious = YouTube and Sony Movie Studio?

Wow you clearly have redefined the word serious ;) j/k

Nexus 10 has very good specs, but just not convinced so far with android application on tablet (often they are just over stretched phone apps) and of course from what we all know if the application isn't written to take into account the 'retina' res display they often look worse for wear and with only 1 android device having this display against the myriad that don't, I question how many apps will actually ever take advantage of it (until more high res displays appear on other android tablets, which could be a good while).

a lot of it is out of microsoft's control. if it were, you'd have seen more apps brought over to windows phone marketplace with timely updates. the official twitter client hasn't been updated since 2010 ffs. so until windows 8/wp8 and android gets a better selection of tablet-oriented apps, i'll be sticking to the ipad.

How would you rate your experience with Office RT? Granted its only Beta, but most of the reviews I've read so far have not been promising.

It's good to see Microsoft finally release their stuff! Looks really nice as well, with Office and what not. Just need some more tablet apps I think!

Also nice to see Android release some real competitor in terms of 10" tablets! The Nexus 10 looks sliiiick! Great price as well! But I don't think Apple will lower their prices anytime soon, instead they'll make 32gb the base. But don't know when that'll be! lol

the Surface RT and Pro, including the Nexus 10 do not have integrated mobile options, so they failed for professionals (business/enterprise)

I wonder how big of a deal this is with all the carriers offering their shared plans. I switched my ipad over to a shared plan for much cheaper and I don't notice it runs my phones battery down very much if I'm just browsing the web. I'm also using a Windows 8 Pro tablet (samsung ativ smart pc) and it functions very well using my phone as a modem, but I do miss a GPS chip.

Surface Pro replacing an iPad? Makes no sense. Tell me it's replacing a Macbook Air, even if you have to lie. It just hurts the head, trying to wrap it around such a silly concept.

I'm getting close to 10 hours on my Pro, but it's an Atom CPU. I want to say more, but I haven't done a specific test to prove that. I woke up yesterday at 5am and have obsessively used my Pro all day, web surfing, installing programs, light video playback/streaming. Come 10pm it was still at 40%. I don't think battery versus battery will be an issue for the Atom devices

App market may be tough, but if you consider windows programs versus apps there are a LOT more windows legacy programs out there.

16.9 does make web browsing in portrait mode suck, but as a plus it makes taking notes and stylus entry amazing.

I think the windows 8 pro devices, especially the Atom ones, are going to be serious contenders. I don't see Googles nexus 10 making any serious impact on anyone, nice as it is. The ipad still has a stranglehold on "dumb" tablets and will for the foreseeable future. It's the consumer who wants a full OS, it will be interesting to see where their money goes.

I'll definitely purchase the Nexus 4 and 10. They're too cheap and too well-specced (the latter even better than the Retina iPads!) to be passed on.

The biggest problem with the Surface RT is its low-specced hardware. 720p screen when the iPad 3/4 and the Nexus 10 have at least twice the resolution? Come on...

I prefer the lower resolution honestly, in desktop mode at 125% DPI it's perfect for running legacy windows programs. I don't notice a difference otherwise, video looks exactly the same to me, but I don't profess to be one of those X-men type humans who can really see a huge difference, it all looks the same to me. But then again I'm the poor slob who notices no difference at all when I hold up my ipad2 and ipad3 next to each other.

I think it's a neat device, but doesn't really bring anything new. It seems like they just took cool features from every other tablet, and slapped Windows into it.

I'm sure it will be a super handy device, but it doesn't appeal to me. I'll stick with my iPad.
