for portability, I like the 9 inch better but every time I put my 12.9 next to the 9 inch version, i like my 12.9 inch that much.

It's nice to have and I use it alot for writing. The other cool part is that I use the 12.9 inch screen with Duet as a 3rd monitor and I'm really loving that.

I know im going to get bigger ipad next time i upgrade my air2. If its going to be rumoured 10.5" or 12.9" i dont know yet. My only concern with 12.9" is not so much its physical size but weight. After getting used to the lightness of air2 I cannot imagine myself using any heavier device like current 12.9. Its just too hevy. Apple needs to cut off atleast 20-40% the weight of 12.9". Then im all in for it.

They don't need to make it thinner and lighter..my greatest wish is for more battery.

I hate that the screen real estate is so badly underutilized for the Pro 12.9", but I'm still in. Hopefully, this is will be addressed in a later release.

I don't know, that was really my biggest complaint with it. It was just too big and heavy to move around freely with it. I just couldn't get comfortable with it, maybe just me.

For me, iOS 11 is the make-or-break point. If Apple pulls another emojipalooza for iOS 11, then I'll know that the iPad Pro will be what it is and nothing more. That'll be fine, but any thoughts of having the iPP inch closer towards convergence ends then.

If you used it with a full case then I can see why it would feel big and heavy. Anything more obtrusive than the smart cover or Apple Smart Keyboard would definitely make it feel unwieldy. That is why I opted for a thin clear skin on the back (nothing more elaborate than clear Con-Tact paper) and smart cover/ASK.

The whole notion of convergence and the iPad perhaps being one of the pivotal points - Apple hasn't demonstrated that to me at all.

They could extend the iPad in some new ways (revamp underpinnings of the App Store, adding mouse support, and more freedom in the file system for starters), but Ivy and Company haven't...and frankly, I'm a little skeptical that they have the vision and the 'courage' to do it.

Apple seems to be happy with modeling the iPad after the iPhone...and it's a real shame.

I suppose that I should clarify what I mean by "converged device" with regard to the iPad.

I'm NOT advocating a Microsoft Surface approach to that (desktop OS on a tablet). I've been there, done that. But there are things that Apple can do to nudge the iPad Pro toward that line of convergence without compromising the beauty of what the iPad does.

You mention those things... mouse support, exposing the file system, some adjustments to iOS. Little things. That's what I'm talking about. They could have (and IMO should have) introduced those things with iOS 10... especially in the wake of releasing the iPad Pros.

For example: allowing a slightly tighter icon grid on the home screen would not compromise the user experience. Well, it would... the 12.9 iPad Pro's home screen would no longer look like Fisher Price's "My First Tablet". :p

The 12.9" is a big display.

But I recognize that some segment of users would want it to be lighter, but please...not thinner. It would make it even more susceptible to damage.

I think iOS 11 will bring more features to iPad . Especially the Pro 2 to make people upgrade. Remember what Apple did when launched iOS 9 . The iPad Air 2 supports all multitasking features while The original Air not. This was a huge feature that made people upgrade. So, I think Apple will launch a exclusive feature for the Pro .However, some features will be limited to the IPad Pro 2 like last time.

One thing I love about the iPP and the pencil is I can write & draw on excel/word/powerpoint files on iPP, save on icloud and open on another computer (eg. at work)

Pencil completely changed the way I look at and use the iPP

Sounds like the iPad Pro 12.9" may be a good option for me. And if it does end up just being too big, I could still return it. Does Apple have that extended return thing this year? Or am I thinking wrong, seem to remember it before....

I was using the Apple silicon case only. Just felt uncomfortable to handle.

Anyone who has the iPad Pro 12.9", is it possible to hold it in one hand and scroll/tap with the other hand? Or is this out of the picture? Just trying to get an idea of size and how it affects the usage vs my current air 2

Yes, it's possible but it is a bit tricky. I sometimes rest it on my inner forearm with the bottom of the ipad resting in the antecubital space (inner elbow/elbow pit) and my fingers curled around the edge. That secures it well enough to be able to scroll/tap with the other hand.

But I only use either the smart cover or ASK and a thin clear skin on the back. I would not attempt to do that with a full-on case. Too heavy and bulky.

Yeah I actually have gone caseless with my Air 2 since I got it last December, just use a tempered glass screen protector and Smart Cover and I'm sure I'd use the same setup on the Pro.
