This argument sounds like the Android crowd crying about the XR not being 1080P. People who only look at a number rather than a use case aren't going to buy an iPhone. While Samsung is marketing cameras with inflated megapixel and zoom numbers Apple is marketing cameras that take good pictures. It's highly possible that the base model could go to 128 but the cries from board posters aren't going to make this change. Apple can see how much storage iPhones are using and if it looks like many people who own the 64 GB model are getting close to the limit then they will up it. It's about it working rather than being able to put a number on the box.
except a difference cannot be truly felt comparing samsung's inflated megapixels camera to iphones, or xr lcd compared to oled. at least not that noticeable. storage on the other hand can be greatly felt when you run out of storage in middle of recording.

Ever product today has been bumped in storage. EVERY PRODUCT.

We're in 2020. Apple is feeling the pressure of competition. Nowadays 200$ phones come with 128GB.

YES.

EVERY iPhone will come in 128GB this year.
Remind me in September this year, to tell you you’re wrong! 😋

I think yes. iPad pros, Mac minis, MacBook airs, and 16" MacBook Pros have all seen storage double across the lineup of stock configurations. It's definitely a pattern now, and I expect it to carry over to the flagship device, the iPhone pro. regular iPhone 12... maybe, maybe not.

Or if you know you'll need more storage you can just choose that option when buying? I know people probably want more storage without having to pay for it and well TBH I would like the whole product without having to pay for it but such as life.

such as life for you maybe.

thats what consumer criticism is for, if you take everything as its handed to you, for example, butterfly keyboard, no way would apple do a 180 and revert back to scissor switch.

if more folks complain they paying over 1 grand for a phone that only comes with 64gb of storage. things will change.

If people complain while continuing to buy iPhones, then what exactly is Apple supposed to listen to?

In the case of the butterfly keyboard, what got Apple to do a 180 likely wasn’t just the complaints, but actual empirical data that it was problematic. They probably felt that they were able to engineer their way out of this problem, but ultimately decided that it either wasn’t worth the resources, or that the reputation surrounding the butterfly keyboard was so negative by this time that it wasn’t worth salvaging.

People ultimately forget that the iPhone’s price is determined by a variety of factors. You can’t just look at say, falling SSD prices and argue that the iphone ought be be cheaper or include more storage for the same price, because they are also forgetting possible increases in prices of other components in the device as well that may offset this.

If the iphone does get higher starting prices this year, it will be because the cost of manufacturing the iphone has been reduced enough to allow Apple to increase the base storage while allowing them to maintain their margins, or because they feel it is necessary (eg: a better camera necessitating more storage). Not because of a vocal minority.

you might be right to an extent, but that doesn't explain the gap going from 64gb and skipping the 128, and straight to 256. if apple operates their storage tier purely on what you said, with the price gap difference for manufacture side for adding additional 64gb is less than 10 dollars, with apple's purchasing power, probably even cheaper.

as for vocal minority, the butterfly keyboard complaints started on reddit and forums like this, then gain tractions through main stream media, and finally made its way to the oscars. don't discredit the vocal minorities.

ofcourse, my guess work is just as observational as yours, after all, guess work.

only charging the differences in materials cost requires all products to be priced to meet the target margin.

Exactly. There was people returning a product for repair and not just some guy on the MacRumors forums saying Oh man it's just not fair that I can't buy the base model because I need more storage... I don't think ole Tim Apple is sitting in his office saying "Oh no look another thread in the forums complaining about the base storage... My day is ruined!". Will the base storage increase? It sure will when Apple who can tell how much storage space people use by their iCloud storage sees it getting maxed out by a majority of users. This might be in 2020 or it might not. Only Apple has the data to know. I personally know people who use less than half of their 64 GB storage.
