As the title suggests, I think I’m skipping 2022….what would you like to see in a 2022 pro that would make you buy?
i love my 12.9 pro with 1tb. The screen is gorgeous, audio fantastic( we watch a lot of tv shows in bed or while traveling) functionality great. I can make slideshows and movies on it. Almost regretting the purchase of my 14 MacBook Pro as I can do so much on this iPad. Ahhh…for more strenuous tasks and workflow the MB pro kills it!

I have the cellular version and that can kill battery life. I can get 8-10 hours of pretty solid usage off of 1 charge at 100%. If the battery life were to say… double….I would have to give it serious consideration. Not sure I can go any larger, but I would DEFINETELY have to check out a larger pro. If more apps came out that actually used the power and workflows of the ipp pro requiring an upgrade in hardware, another consideration. I use my iPad Pro 70% of my time on a device. It just works.

what would it take for you to pull the trigger on a 22 pro?

iPadOS is not where it needs to be at this juncture. Using the "Pro" moniker on a device that most Pro's cannot use professionally just seems, gimmicky. I'd like to buy an iPad Pro one day. They look stunning, and they appear to be excellent for media consumption. They just need to make iPadOS more powerful if they want more people jump ship.

Happy with my 2021 M1 11 inch. The only thing I would want hardware wise is ability to support monitor spanning. Maybe 16gb of RAM.

Software wise, let UTM be official and not a side loaded thing. UTM is the Virtual Machine hypervisor. It was on the store, I figure it would have better support and companies like Parallells/VMWare would jump in.

Typically you’d have to be either: leasing your current iPad; or a committed tech enthusiast; or a content creator, to want to upgrade only after 1 year.

There are rare exceptions where a next-year feature is compelling enough to upgrade from one-year old device. I do know two people who upgraded from IPP 2020 to IPP 2021 as one found the CPU/RAM bump to be very compelling, while the other explicitly did so for the XDR display.

What I’m expecting from the iPad Pro 2022 is a typical year-on-year spec bump of 15% more single core M2>M1, perhaps 20-25% multi-core M2>M1 - perhaps an extra thunderbolt port - perhaps magnetic charging. The kind of things that I wouldn’t personally feel more benefit from at this stage with my 12.9 M1 Pro.

Once you stay with the same device for 3-4 years, the new Pro model out there will become more compelling when the new chip is 75% faster than your 4 year-old device. Those with a 2015-2018 Pro model would likely see far more compelling reasons to upgrade, since their current device is the basis for comparison.

It’s the 2025 iPad Pro that I’ll be keeping an eye on.

more than 16hrs of battery life!!!
10hours of web is not enough, and Apple does not look intended to improve it over the past century, since it looked like the iPad has the shortest battery life in all Apple products except the AirPods.
Release another keyboard that has a larger trackpad (yeah it's the only drawback for the floating design)

There’s not going to be a 2022 iPad Pro. Perhaps an early (Late Q1) 2023 iPad Pro, but not a 2022. IF there is, it will still be M1, because Apple won’t have sufficient M2 SoCs to include in the Pro this year. Also, if they move to 12” and 14” models, I would think they want to wait until next and introduce those new sizes with an M2, not the M1, because they just moved the M1 to the iPad Air and keeping the “Pro” on M1 would have terrible optics. Just my 2¢.

Looks like it will be a quiet year for the pro. Haven’t seen or heard anything that makes me remotely interested in upgrading.

Yeah I have been wanting a new iPad for ages, decided to pull the trigger on an 11“ pro and magic keyboard as there hasn’t been much talk and rumours about any new Pros, keyboard was kinda cramped compared to my 2020 air but I’ve gotten used to it over a few days and love it now

I just picked up a 12.9 5th gen for a good price it's more iPad than I need and more than the apps need. I don't expect too much to be added

nor sure what they could do. I use my 12.9 pro pretty much as a media device now so hard to see what they could do.

I just want a Pro for the already-great “Pro” features, like ProMotion and Quad Speakers. Hoping for MiniLED on the 11” model, maybe WiFi 6E for “future-proofing” and whatever new feature/design change they want to introduce this time.

I guess if it doesn’t include M2, it’ll be M1 Pro/Ultra? Kind of like when they did the A12Z as an upgrade from A12X. If they didn’t do M2 with this year’s release, they’d maybe refresh it again next year with M2, like how they refreshed it in 2020 and 2021 around the same time of year as each other.

I have the 2020 Air, and it performs just fine as a tablet. I just would prefer the Pro’s bells and whistles. It would be my first Pro, so I’m probably going to get it no matter what.

I don’t think we’ll see a M1 pro or max or ultra in an iPad In the near future. They use more power and generate more heat. The M1 is kind of an A14Z. Rumors seem to indicate we won’t see mini LED in the next 11 inch pro. The 12.9 is in its first year with mini LED. Other than a chance the 11 inch gets mini LED I would guess the next gen will be a spec bump.
