It's simpler than that. M2 = more efficient = better battery life.
I think it has to be 30% faster than M1. Otherwise its stagnant. And, judging by the history of all A chips (M is built on A architecture), all A chips do increase their performance 30% between series. So this is what I expect (and hope) will happen.

Also iPad is really not so fast that it cant be faster. It just depends how heavily are you abusing it.
And Apple should work to stay ahead of the game here, too.

Do note, there was barely any difference as far as general CPU performance between A14 and A15. Here’s hoping A16 (and presumably M2) doesn’t follow suit.

Mind, I do believe A12X to M1 was 50% faster. Granted, that was two chipset jumps from A12 to A14. I think there was similar progression from A10X to A12X (although bigger multi-core jump due to heterogeneous processing).

As the title suggests, I think I’m skipping 2022….what would you like to see in a 2022 pro that would make you buy?
i love my 12.9 pro with 1tb. The screen is gorgeous, audio fantastic( we watch a lot of tv shows in bed or while traveling) functionality great. I can make slideshows and movies on it. Almost regretting the purchase of my 14 MacBook Pro as I can do so much on this iPad. Ahhh…for more strenuous tasks and workflow the MB pro kills it!

I have the cellular version and that can kill battery life. I can get 8-10 hours of pretty solid usage off of 1 charge at 100%. If the battery life were to say… double….I would have to give it serious consideration. Not sure I can go any larger, but I would DEFINETELY have to check out a larger pro. If more apps came out that actually used the power and workflows of the ipp pro requiring an upgrade in hardware, another consideration. I use my iPad Pro 70% of my time on a device. It just works.

what would it take for you to pull the trigger on a 22 pro?

#1. MiniLED or OLED 120hz Display
#2. M2 CPU
#3. A functioning TB4 port
#4. New Apple Pencil features
#5. Runs MacOS

1. 4K Resolution Screen
2. 4000 Nits (DV)
3. Larger Form Factor
4. Apple Pencil Upgrades
5. Reduced Blooming or OLED

The main uses for my IPP are Designing, Blogging and Media Consumption. It’s either laying down on my desk or upright in the magic keyboard. More space to draw, the ability to watch 4K netflix and see true Dolby vision content as mastered would really tie my hands into buying the next upgrade.
