Just curious if any iPP owners bought theirs to use as basically just a large iPad? For mainly casual use and media consumption. It's a pricey device, but that large screen looks like it would be great just to have for surfing the web, playing games and watching videos etc.

I just bought an iPad Air 2 which I use just for fun, but I must say, that 12.9 inch screen looks tempting. Playing something like The Room 3 on that would be so immersive I would imagine.

Do you think the iPad Pro would be worth it for just casual use?

Although it's size and weight make it unwieldy... As a content consumption slate it's great. Oh sure it's rather obscenely expensive, but so is anything Apple.

However, now that I own all three iPad sizes, I still greatly prefer to use my iPad Air 2 for almost everything. Especially Videos, Movies, and related entertainment.

It's pretty much what I've been using it for and I have no complaints.

YouTube videos on this thing are amazing

I use it mostly as a media consumption device except for drawing in Procreate. Other than that, I surf the web, watch movies, email and social media.

I just like the fact that I can use it for that, and then if I do need to do some more stuff for productivity, I have the means to do so.

Lol I'll never get over these 'unwieldy ' comments while I'm laying in bed with my iPad pro getting even more use than when I had my iPad Air 2

I will raise my hand up as someone that uses my iPad pro as a big iPad. What else would I use it for? A baking sheet? A cutting board? The larger size makes everything a lot more immersive. Like people that got a larger iPhone and "could never go back to a smaller screen", I feel the same about my iPad pro. My air 2 feels almost toy like in comparison.

To me, it's a nice middle ground between 15" Mbpr and the 6s+.

So far, I am using it primarily for consumption, with a little bit of writing/note taking thrown in. It is the ultimate portable PDF reader, and I might be addicted to Texture.

For most it's just a iPad Air plus with exclusive accessories. The minority would be using it for content creation.

Of course, think of a big TV. Bigger screen does mean better viewing experience.

Not really... Been playing with ipp and i feel the screen is abit too large to watch movies compairing watching them with air2. On the bed i have noticed that I need to push ipp further "to see it once" rather than moving my eyes from the left to the right and so on - especially with subtitles..

Thanks for all the great replies. A top spec'd iPad Pro with AppleCare including Smart Cover and Case here in Canada is $1,923 after taxes. The Air 2 I got was about half of that.

One of my hesitations is that I need to upgrade my aging 2010 MacBook Pro at some point in the next few months. I'm into photography (not professionally) and use it mostly for Adobe Lightroom. A spec'd out 15 inch rMBP comes in at about $4,800 after AppleCare and taxes.

But that iPad Pro would be great for viewing my photos on too.

I wouldn't use the IPP for photo editing simply because I use the full Lightroom and import RAW only files on my iMac 5K. But the IPP is probably the best photo viewing device from Apple short of the iMac 5K.

I replaced an iPad 3 which had a folio case with an iPad Pro with just a simple/cheap back shell silicone case. I find the iPad Pro is no heavier than the iPad 3 + case that I was using. I did not buy the keyboard nor the pencil and I probably won't since I cannot draw anyway (well stick people, but I can do that just as easily with my finger!!).

Loving the iPP for consumption, and games are awesome. I particularly love the game Smash Hit because it is very immersive on the iPP with the bigger screen and awesome speakers.

all this speaking about what a content creation and a content consumption device is always puzzles me.
Sometimes I "create" more on my iPad than on my MacBook Pro.
It depends on apps (and the user).
It's not the device.

Same here, the tools available in OS X by far exceed what you can do on the iOS

You could consider getting an MBP 15 that is a year or two old. You should be easily able to cut your cost to at least half of your estimate, without any noticeable impact on your workflow.

There's nothing to get over. It's a great size for you and for others, it's a little too big.

Starts with saying different people have subjective opinions so chill

it's a little too big.

Gives completely subjective opinion. I remember thinking the regular sized iPad was huge. Now it seems tiny like my old iPhone 4s that's in the junk drawer compared to my current 6s. Perspective changes over time. I don't know how a MacBook Air 13 inch is considered super portable but a similarly sized iPad is "huge and unwieldy".

Different people have different uses of coarse...but I haven't been limited by the size of my pro as compared to my air 2. I still read on it and hold it over my head in bed. I feel like a lot of people get overwhelmed with first impression of "oh wow it's so big!" And then stick with that opinion without ever giving it a real chance

Is it possible to get a refurbished MacBook Pro from Apple.com in Canada?
