Mine arrives tomorrow, and I have every intention of using it as a consumption device.

I may do some excel diting but thats it really.

Just curious if any iPP owners bought theirs to use as basically just a large iPad? For mainly casual use and media consumption. It's a pricey device, but that large screen looks like it would be great just to have for surfing the web, playing games and watching videos etc.

I just bought an iPad Air 2 which I use just for fun, but I must say, that 12.9 inch screen looks tempting. Playing something like The Room 3 on that would be so immersive I would imagine.

Do you think the iPad Pro would be worth it for just casual use?

Heck yeah I only use it for music and YouTube ...

It's a great machine for consumption. I found myself spending less time on my TV because I enjoy watching everything on the IPP. My wife sleeps early and now I can use my IPP with a Bluetooth headphone instead of the TV in the bedroom. Ipad is just too small for watching anything comfortably at my age! I am also surprised by the superior web surfing experience on the IPP. I hate surfing the web with my IPad Air and will always use my MacBook Air instead because the iPad Air is just too small to have all the bookmark bars, tabs..... on the screen. Now I can put everything on the IPP and it basically replace the MacBook Air as my main surfing tool! Some people are saying the IPP is too big for holding in hands but my experience is that you don't really need to hold it with both hands on bed. Just use your thigh to support it or even hold it with your knees! I love my IPP!

I didn't pay any attention to the Pro as I didn't think I would want one that big. I was walking through Best Buy on Wed morning happened to walk by the Apple section saw the Pro for the first time. With in 30 seconds I knew I needed it. Bought one from the Apple Store that day. When I came home with it my wife said why do you need that you had an air 2? I handed her the Pro and said check it out. 2 minutes later she looked at me and said I get it! Best iPad to date IMO!

Now owning an iPhone 6s plus i'm hardly ever using my iPad Air2. The Pro if purchased will be used as a second screen for pricing purposes for work and entreatment when flying. Now having Boeings Dream Liners to fly in and larger screens I may not even require the iPad to fly with, but in saying this picture and sound quality is so much better on the iPad so maybe not. I use my Macbook Air for all other purposes at home and take my Apple TV with me when away for holidays.

I am using mine for consumption only and I LOVE it!
Now that Verizon lets me watch my DVR content on my iPad, I can watch my recorded content (as well as other stuff) on my FrankenPad with headphones and not disturb others.

I use my IPP for editing Excel spreadsheets already that I used to do on my computer when I want to be more portable. I could also see myself using Word if I had more need for text documents. I find the keyboard quite comfortable to use.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone.

Well, I ended up exchanging my Air 2 for the iPad Pro today. It will be used just as a large iPad and so far I really like it. I've only had it for a few hours and am adjusting to the size of it. The screen is just great!

I was the same way. Totally not even interested in getting it after seeing it announced. I saw it in the store and all of a sudden something just clicked. I went home after that and looked at my iPad Air 2 and couldn't believe how small it felt. Can't imagine anything smaller than an air 2 now

I said I doubted I would ever want an iPhone 6+ but with my close up vision degrading, got one and love it and can't imagine going back to a smaller screen. Similarly thought the same about going from my iPad 2 to something as large as the iPad Pro. Hubby brought one from work to bring home for me to see and I was shocked at how lightweight and thin it was while still being so large screened. Played around with it for half hour or so and decided it was time to upgrade, literally. He found a store with it in stock today and just migrated everything over from my iPad2 and using it now. No pencils available right now but would like a pencil although it's for personal use. I had a wacom tablet many years ago and enjoyed sketching on it. But the Pro is definitely a personal consumption device in my case.

One thing that will take me a bit to adjust to will be this onscreen keyboard. Things are different than on my iPad2 and I have another foreign keyboard loaded in too and keep hitting the switch key for it (right above the Shift) by mistake. So far keyboard differences are the most noticable changes for me. Hubby picked up the white silicone case and magnetic cover for me and I'm happy with them too although I'm not a fan of the black apple logo on the back of the cover...at all. Not sure if I was in the store with him if I would have bought it. I have a silicone case for my iPhone 6+ in white and the logo is a recessed white apple on that and kind of thought this case would be the same. Other than that I like the feel of both and the magnetic cover is nice, first time ever using one. I use my iPad proped up on my torso while laying in bed and while this cover (had 3rd party on previous iPad) works OK for that use, it's not as stable as I'd like when I move a bit while laying down. The screen quality is great. Can't wait to watch some movies on it.

I got my iPad Pro over the weekend and honestly I will need to keep my iPad Air 2. I'm using my iPad Pro for mainly consumption especially watching video while on the treadmill. It's great for that! Facetime is awesome as well. I might use my IPP at work for taking notes and presentations. Honestly though, the IPP will not replace my iPad Air 2. It's just too big for easy portability compared to the iPad Air 2. It's also not comfortable to hold while laying in bed reading.

Don't get me wrong, I like my IPP but I don't really need it. On the other hand, I can't bring myself to return it. It has it's place in my daily workflow now.

most people on here who have the iPP - what is your primary device you're using? Year and model would be nice to know.

I have a rMBP 15" from 2011 - and they seem to complement each other okay. My rMBP is starting to lose performance when running photography apps

It compliments my late 2014 27" imac 5k. Have a powerhouse for my heavy needs and a portable consumption device that replaces the need for a laptop.

We don't NEED any of this stuff. A $500 PC plus a $250 Android phone could probably take care of most of our needs. The question is whether we want this stuff, and the answer is yes.

I use my iPad Pro mostly for consumption, mainly because the screen is roughly the size and shape of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. I occasionally use it for writing, using Evernote and the standard virtual keyboard the comes with the iPad. I've also been dabbling with MS Office for iPad Pro, which is an impressive set of tools.

I wouldn't use the IPP for photo editing simply because I use the full Lightroom and import RAW only files on my iMac 5K. But the IPP is probably the best photo viewing device from Apple short of the iMac 5K.

iPad pro will not import RAW format?

My college is using it as a normal iPad. He seems enjoying it.

The problems lie not with the import of RAW format images but rather the processing of them. A good discussion on the subject here:

Thanks!

So...it appears if you used an IPad Pro, solely for importing RAW photos from a camera and eventual upload to iCloud, you would be able to maintain an equal photo archive as you would with OS X (since the Photos.app and I assume iCloud holds RAW as well)?

But the only problem happens when you want to edit a photo...it forever scales the photo or in some cases cannot be done at all?

It depends on the app used to edit with - check the comments in the referenced article in my post. I have been trying FilterStorm Neue and it works well on the RAW files from my Canon 70D, without scaling. It also appears that Photoshop Express works well but I've only played with it a bit.

Nice, thanks. So, using an IPad Pro in place of a Mac would work, assuming the editors work for you? If the RAW format is in the cloud, one could always use OS X later on. Does that jive?

Off topic- do you know if iCloud stores duplicates?

I'd say yes, that jives. I still far prefer the use of Lightroom on my PC for editing - I know it and I have a preference for working with a mouse for photo work and I like the efficiency of working within a true file system. Plus there's the issue of working with a calibrated monitor. There have been complaints about the color on the IPP and that could impact your results. So yes, you can work with RAW on the IPP but I only do it when on the road and then just for a few shots.

I can't answer the iCloud duplicates question.

Ive been using mine as a consumption only device and it is great .. love the screen size. I also have a apple pencil but rarely even use it.
