So we'll wait for the returns to begin... ;)

Yes! And they have they have a great new Christmas cup design. Not many people have heard about it though. ;)

I was going to buy that cup, but they didn't have the straw in stock and there was a six week waiting period for delivery. :(

or people with no real life acting like having one...

i dont even understand why people even use their laptops/tablets at places like starbucks...

It provides an important source for all the posts about drinks, mostly with milk and sugar syrups, spilled into laptops and whether you can resuscitate a laptop with 20 ounces of milk and sugar spilled into the keyboard.

I actually get work done at starbucks and its by my gym and on the way to work and near by several bars I like. So....

I never understood why people come all the way from Europe to the US only to sit in starbucks and make judgements and generalizations about other people with their laptops and iPads at Starbucks. Why are people spending thousands of dollars on the same coffee they already have at their home Starbucks?

Even if people are showing off a bit...let them have their moment and move on. Most of the same people go to starbucks regardless if they just purchased a new device or not. People show off all kinds of things like clothes etc...nothing new. No need to get angry or make judgements about them without any information.

My husband and I go to Starbucks every Saturday after visiting his mother. It's a nice way to decompress. The little girl at the counter knows that I always get a chai latte and he gets a vanilla bean frap. Don't even have to order. (I don't particularly care for their coffee.)

Every week we see the same people there. There's a guy with headphones sitting way in the back corner...no clue what he's doing...and another guy at the table next to us with his Mac. He appears to be working hard at something, and occasionally takes a quiet phone call while scrolling his desktop. (I love people who can take quiet phone calls!)

I go there regularly during the summer, to avoid the distractions at home. Distractions at home means the floor that you suddenly notice needs mopping, the extra load of laundry you could do while sitting, the television that could be watched just for a little while cause you can do your work later, the dishes that need washing, and the meals that need cooking. Noise is not a distraction, it's just background.

Hate the sterotype of apple products and Starbucks . Seems a lot of people showing off .

Love it. Will never be seen in a Starbucks though :)
I'll never understand people who avoid good products, namely by far the best coffee at a chain coffee shop, in order to be some sort of anti-hipster. So you don't go to starbucks? What an amazingly novel approach to life that is. Enjoy your crap coffee.

For the record I never use my Apple products in starbucks, but I don't fault anybody who does. Does it bother you that much to see other people show off? If that's even what they're doing...

The irony of this thread is that MacRumors - is your Starbucks. You're doing the same thing here that you would there. Lol.

Does it really matter? Some people are tech geeks and love talking about, sharing, showing off, and enjoying their tech. What's wrong with that? Some do it a little more casually. So what.

My viewpoint is Starbucks is too crowded and noisy in my neck of the woods to get work done. I'm easily distracted though, forget hearing a pin drop cause I can hear a feather drop. :)

Look, sometimes it's just the only place you can get some work done, okay?

It's just a stereotype .

Personally i believe Starbucks coffee is awful, personal preference.

X2. I am a McDonald's coffee fan myself and have a very nice one close by that is never crowded.

You know, most of the people I see working over their MacBooks at Starbucks in the Boston area look as if they're very stressed out. Maybe it's an East coast thing. :(

I have a 15 inch RMBP and looking at the iPad pro to downsize a little bit and make it more convenient to work at a starbucks.

I work from home. Tons of people work from home now. I've been working from home for almost 10 years now. I miss the socializing every now and then, and i get that by working from a starbucks once or twice a week.

Unless people have become psychic, no one knows why anyone brings their stuff at starbucks.

Honestly, at this stage in the game and timing I would put this very heavily in the Gorilla Marketing camp and probably not actual users showing up at the starbucks

Not hardly. People like their tech. My good friend is an android fanboi....he too likes his tech. He loves it when people ask about his $1500 dollar browser.

geesh, when I go places I always try to like everyone and see the positive in people. TO go someplace and dislike total strangers for crazy reasons is beyond me.

sorry
I always assumed the people typing at Starbucks were doing it for the same reason I would sometimes work in a campus library or other public study area. There's something about an audience that makes you feel bad about slacking off. Or motivates you because you're seeing other people work. One of those.

that's very curious. I've always wondered about that; why some people study in noisy environments like that. But I think you're on to something there.

Thanks for that explanation. Seems reasonable. I was always somewhat embarrassed/annoyed to be an Apple fan in a place like Starbucks or Panera Bread. Being a bit of a hermit sometimes gives me a close minded view on other people's behavior.

To put my view in perspective I'm thinking "great, no place to sit and drink my coffee at a coffee house because these people are working on their screen plays".

I'll generally use headphones if the noise level in a library study area is specifically distracting, but a general hum of activity isn't a problem for me because you can't follow any one thread. If you can clearly hear what people are talking about then it's definitely counter-productive.

A coffee place always seemed a little silly as a location for work to me for that exact reason (you're taking up space for people who want to use the place... as a coffee shop). I can understand why people pick it though: It's probably one of the few relatively nice public places available for that sort of thing if you're not working/studying at a university. Doesn't have enough white boards to scrawl chemistry on for my needs, but maybe that's a niche coffee house business idea.

Most of the people are buying coffee and multiple cups. Do you allow people to sit who are purchasing multiple cups over and over again or do you cater to the guy only drinking one cup? Why do you need to take up a seat just to drink a cup of coffee if you arent going to use the table for studying or anything? If starbucks and the like didnt want that business they would simply take away the wifi and charging matts and huge tables. Clearly Starbucks doesnt mind the business because they get away with charging more than everyone else for coffee.

Free wifi. It's a good place to have small meetings. I use Panera more though...
My boss uses Panera, not just for the Wi-Fi, but there's a lot more room & space for one on one meetings. Better food selection. I know so many people like Starbucks, but I personally, don't care for their coffee.

The iPad Pro without a keyboard in a public place is unwieldy at best IMO.
Um, what? How does being in a public place affect the ergonomics of a device?

You can't hold it in the air for very long, due to the weight.

What? Of course I can. Speak for yourself.

You can't type on it with two thumbs while holding it up, due to the width. Which leaves putting it flat on a table facing the ceiling, at an awkward viewing angle, or laying it on your lap, or using the Smart Cover as a wedge stand, which is the least awkward I suppose, but given the size of the screen, still not the ideal viewing angle.
I've typed on mine while standing up. One hand holds the iPad, the other types.

Where do you come up with this stuff?

I use my laptop in coffee shops to get my work done between meetings whilst out and about in London.
Lots of business people use coffee shops as temporary offices whilst in the city. I've even seen job interviews and disciplinarys being conducted in coffee shops!

That's exactly what it is, just a bunch of people showing off. It's like the real life version of Instagram for new Apple products lol.

Well I don't see it that way. I spend a lot of time at Starbucks studying for work and living in a College town that's what most of the people I see in Starbucks are doing. Seeing everyone with a MBP or iPad and lots of iPhones show me they like the quality and not just showing off. I spent a lot on a MBP for my 15 year old son and figure it will last him all the way through high school and possible
Into college if taken care of but I'm sure he will be rewarded with a new version at that time.
I was actually sitting in a Starbucks last night working and studying for a new job and realized that 90% of the people had iPads with keyboards and of the rest 10% almost all were MBPs.

Showing off? Don't see it that way.

Um, what? How does being in a public place affect the ergonomics of a device?

At home you can put your feet up on an ottoman or a desk, tilt back in a recliner, or lay on a couch or in bed. This makes it far easier to use the iPad Pro in your lap, or propped up in your stomach. That's how.

If you're the kind of person who can sit rigid in a chair reading an atlas for an hour, more power to you.

But if you're one of those special people who puts their feet up and spreads out anywhere they please, then I guess the world is your living room anyway.

What? Of course I can. Speak for yourself.

For how long? Ok, let's define very long. How bout half an hour? I can do double or triple that with an iPad Air. Feel free to upload a video of you using a Pro, standing, freehand, for a half hour, because of course you can.

Where indeed do I come up with silly things like that? Oh wait, I didn't. If you're going to change what I said into something ridiculous, yes, it will sound ridiculous.

I didn't say you couldn't type. I said you couldn't type with two hands, like thinking people tend to do. Obviously if you're simply typing one handed, one word replies to a text, it's ok for a bit. But for anything beyond malformed flippant replies on a web forum, typing one handed is obviously useless.

Very sorry to have obviously ruffled your feathers, though I'm quite baffled as to why you would care for a second what a random person on the internet thinks about your iPad Pro. Unless, of course, you secretly agree with me and are feeling buyer's remorse.

Enjoy your iPad Pro in the comfy public spaces of the world!
