iPad Pro Concept Imagines 11.9-Inch Display, Thin Bezels and Face ID

Rumors suggest new iPad Pro models coming in 2018 will feature slimmer bezels and no Home button, which will be removed in favor of the same Face ID system that's available in the iPhone X.

A new iPad Pro concept shared by Álvaro Pabesio imagines what such an iPad Pro might look like, with detailed mockups of an iPad that features an 11.9-inch display with slim wraparound bezels, no notch (as the TrueDepth camera system is included in the top bezel), and no Home button.

Size wise, Pabesio's imagined 11.9-inch iPad is the same physical size as the current 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which is in line with rumors suggesting the next iPad Pro will feature a bigger display. Those rumors, though, have suggested it won't be quite as large as 11.9 inches.

The concept also includes a 12-megapixel dual-rear camera, a feature that has not been rumored for the next-generation iPad Pro but is possible, along with some imagined iOS enhancements, like Stacks, that are not coming in iOS 12.

While Pabesio's mockups aren't entirely true to rumors with some imagined features, it's still an interesting look at the design decisions that Apple could opt to make in a next-generation iPad Pro with Face ID and a TrueDepth camera system. The full design can be seen over on Behance.

This looks good. There is no need for a notch on the iPad. There is enough linear space along the bezels to house all the required Face ID sensors.

Once Face ID debuted for the iPhone, I had a strong indication it would make its way to the iPad, which I have been holding out for. ESpecially with iPad, I would appreciate the reduced bezels an extra screen real estate. Appears fall with will be rather intriguing the hopeful newly designed Series 4 Apple Watch, iPad and 6.5 iPhone X.

Don’t know why he chose a 11.9” screen, since, as you say, it won’t be that large. At least there’s no notch, although the camera orientation wouldn’t be correct, the home bar is debatable, but regardless the app mock-ups look interesting.

This is EXACTLY what I've been dreaming about in the comments of these forums for the past year or so. 11.9" reduced bezels and no notch or home button but with the same resolution as the 12.9" iPad Pro.

The notch on an iPad would be SO much worse because it's often used in landscape. Most of the time on my iPhone X I'm watching a letter-boxed video in landscape or recording video so the notch isn't even apparent and most of the time I'm using it in portrait. If this thing gets OLED that would be even more fantastic but it will probably get technology similar to the new 6.1" iPhone which is LCD that can have those rounded corners.

Valid point. I think the bezels for some Are appreciated, especially if you consider the 12.9 iPad for example, it’s fairly large and unwieldy, and having the bezels gives you a stronger grip depending how you’re using it.

That means you’re turning what would potentially be useful screen space to a literal device handle. Better to get a case that can give you extra grip. Apple can handle accidental touches with palm-rejection style stuff.

Agreed, I'd rather have more potential display area rather than a fixed bezel area for the sake of grip.

The logic needed to reject input from the grip area shouldn't be difficult. The user is holding on to an area with very little movement.

No. No! The bezels on the top and bottom of the iPad are necessary! They're the handles when watching videos! Can you imagine watching something on the iPad with your hands covering half of the video due to the lack of handles? Ugh, that would be awful!
