I want wireless charging!

So I can put it on a stand at home and never worry about battery. Just grab it anytime, always available and because virtical it would take up little space and even be used as a picture frame, etc.
I would use my tablet way more if it could do this.

FaceID on an iPad is a horrible idea. It is incredibly limited on active angles and orientations. Imagine it sitting on your desk and you want to reference something, and EVERY time you have to pick it up, orient it towards your face, then put it down. Or move your head over so it hovers over the sensor.

Or perhaps you pick it up inadvertently covering the sensor (I usually use the iPad in landscape mode, so often my hands are on both sides, so the sensor could easily be covered). Then you have to put it back down to type the PIN.

The finger sensor works at any orientation, even when I'm laying in bed at an odd angle reading a book. It's immediate, and requires vastly less manipulation of the device.

FaceID is fine for a phone form factor, even though my iPhone X unlocks much more slowly on average than my 6s did. But it would WRECK iPad user experience and utility.
Next gen FaceID for the iPhone X is rumored to work in portrait and landscape. This implies a wider usable angle for the sensor. I would also expect it to be faster. We’ll find out in a couple months I guess.

Wow. F-I-N-A-L-L-Y! This, this, this... With current iPad (we keep it attached to a 4-foot adjustable flexible floor stand in front of arm chair, landscape orientation)... So, right now, to turn on, we just reach up, quick grip on touch ID, and -- boom -- it's on. Even if we get up for cup of coffee and iPad goes to sleep... easy, as we approach the chair, just grip as we're sitting, same thing, easy on. Man, if we have to disconnect the iPad, frame in in front of our face and j-u-s-t t-h-e r-i-g-h-t angle, and re-attach, every single time. Ah, hell no... And that's just our experience -- but AstroRob really nails it. Unless Apple makes this work at wildly different angles -- or, heck, just when I sit in front of it, this is going to be a PIA to use in a manner any different than an iPhone!

Don’t know why he chose a 11.9” screen, since, as you say, it won’t be that large. At least there’s no notch, although the camera orientation wouldn’t be correct, the home bar is debatable, but regardless the app mock-ups look interesting.
I would prefer if the physical dimensions would be smaller, the iPad Mini is the prefer physical size. Keep the same screen size as all the apps available are designed for that ratio, just shrink the physical size.

If there is no advancement on FaceID, it will have four sensors around the bezel. Tablets are 360 degree devices, seems TouchID will be budget biometrics passcode.

I had offered a design and functionality solution for a future iPhone and iPad to Apple back in Nov-Dec 2017, I wonder if their will use it in this device or an upcoming iPhone.

Angles will be widened hopefully, I just find FaceID very slow to unlock. I cannot stand the delayed response when I have been spoilt with TouchID 2.

Speaking realistically there is absolutely ZERO need for an updated iPad. The current lineup is as close as perfect gets. I don't like the rounded corners on a screen of this size. I prefer the proportions of the 10.5 Pro, this one feels off. If it had to be updated then I would like Face ID to be added to the current model along with redesigned housing made of 7000 series aluminum. Besides bells and whistles what else can they really add?

an 11.9-inch display with slim wraparound bezels

What I'd really like to see, especially on the physically largest model, is a 4K display. It would make an iPad Pro absolutely perfect for 'personal 4K movie consumption'…! (I do love watching films in bed on my iPad. It's very immersive.)

You would never notice the difference between 1080p and 4K on a screen that size. HDR, however does make a difference.

There is almost no chance this will lack a notch or some other distinctive bezel element. It is essential to make it stand out as an Apple product in place of the iconic home button.

Nah, Apple already owns the tablet market. If you see a tablet, it’s an iPad. As it is the home button is almost invisible, especially with the black bezel.

This, all of this is what I was hoping for at WWDC and it's what I'm holding out for. My Air 2 is still going strong but I've been itching to upgrade for a while to something I can hand write Uni assignments and take notes on.

IPhone X style iPad like this would be gorgeous. Would be something to see it built with stainless steel frame and an OLED panel.
A 120hz variable refresh rate OLED display. I’m not sure how many people would justify the cost.

Surprised these things still sell. I consider them obsolete with the larger phones these days.
The 12.9” is still 2x the size of the galaxy note 8. And closer to 3x the screen estate because of the aspect ratio.

Rumors suggest new iPad Pro models coming in 2018 will feature slimmer bezels and no Home button, which will be removed in favor of the same Face ID system that's available in the iPhone X.

A new iPad Pro concept shared by Álvaro Pabesio imagines what such an iPad Pro might look like, with detailed mockups of an iPad that features an 11.9-inch display with slim wraparound bezels, no notch (as the TrueDepth camera system is included in the top bezel), and no Home button.

Size wise, Pabesio's imagined 11.9-inch iPad is the same physical size as the current 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which is in line with rumors suggesting the next iPad Pro will feature a bigger display. Those rumors, though, have suggested it won't be quite as large as 11.9 inches.

The concept also includes a 12-megapixel dual-rear camera, a feature that has not been rumored for the next-generation iPad Pro but is possible, along with some imagined iOS enhancements, like Stacks, that are not coming in iOS 12.

While Pabesio's mockups aren't entirely true to rumors with some imagined features, it's still an interesting look at the design decisions that Apple could opt to make in a next-generation iPad Pro with Face ID and a TrueDepth camera system. The full design can be seen over on Behance.

The best iPad in the iPad history is coming. So excited!!

Would you also want for the iPad to switch its aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9? Or have a 4096 x 3072 screen?

I notice we never handle our 12.9 ipads, we hold them pinched with thumb and palm under thumb on side and 4 fingers on back, balanced on a table or on our stomach when reading in bed. So I’m totally good with nearly bezel-less.

I think they might as well call it 12" iPad, and make the 12.9" to 15" with similar design.

I think this surely begs the question, can we have iPad mini Size with this design. It would be about 9".

I love my 10.5" IPP, but I'd definitely buy this iPad if this concept comes to fruition.

I could do without the dual rear camera though, especially since I never even use the rear camera on my IPP.

I would love this but I'd rather have it in slightly-larger-than-mini-size with a ~9.5" screen.

I do wonder, if Apple is moving to wireless charging (and they are) what will they make the back of the iPad out of? Surely they won't use glass.
