Another pro hack weighs in in favor of the ipad pro. Apple pencil is better than previous 3rd party styluses? Is there a lower bar imaginable? Interestingly, even this commentator can't find anything good to say about the smart cover. Time to go to Cult of Mac for some more objective commentary

Meh. Get a surface pro and do a lot more. The iPad "pro" is pretty crippled to truly call it a pro device. Win10 has been a pleasure to use for me so far and it is kind of annoying how Apple ragged on the surface because of the keyboard attachment and pen... And then they copy it several years later.

Do a lot less as a tablet though. Maybe 9 good tablet apps available for the SP.

I would still need a real laptop for autoCAD and the Adobe products...no way for the work I do in those could a SP4 handle it. Anyone that uses those applications truly for work would be miserable on a SP4, same as on a net book. Now if all you are doing is looking at those files and no real work then maybe...but an iPad can do that too.

When anyone quotes off those types of programs are good on an SP4 you know they don't really have a clue how to use them. If you truly use those programs professionally, you would want at a Laptop with better specs be it mac or Windows. It would be a nightmare waiting on premiere on an SP4 to render out a 4K video of any length while onsite with a client standing over your shoulder.

There is nothing any more pro about the surface than the iPad. Both are a secondary tool for pros. For consumer/hobby bases either is fine. IMO the iPad wins hands down for less fiddly os, better touch interface, and battery life for using onsite as a secondary tool to my laptop. Laptop for at a table, iPad for wandering with all the pertinent info for the project in a light easy to access while standing package that will last the day on one charge.
I disagree with your comment "There is nothing any more pro about the surface than the iPad." As a qualified accountant who owns a Surface Pro 3, I can run all my accounting softwares and full windows office on my device. The same cannot be said of the iPad Pro. The Surface has improved my mobility. In the Apple world I would need an iPad and macbook. Apple is just trying to copy Microsoft by including Pro to deceive those who can't differentiate between a desktop and tablet OS. Only those who are heavily tied in Apple ecosystem will get the iPad Pro.

Can someone hurry up and hack this too so that it works on more than the iPad pro.
100MB wifi limit increase.
Working iPencil.
Calendar search for more than a year into the past/future.
Side by side multitasking on unsupported models
A few others...

There are enough factors now for me to consider a jailbreak.

I'll preorder it and give it a go. Though I suspect the iPad Air 2 is a better device for my needs.

The iPad pro will appeal to many that work with a stylus based computer
ipad pro isn;t a stylus based computer....stylus is just an accessory for specific things...like steve jobs said if you design a product based on stylus you failed...because if you lost it you can't easly use your device that easy like you do with your fingers

If only it ran a real OS.
real OS for what? for desktop class apps? what's the difference between ios apps and osx apps? the features, but in time because of the power of the ipad hardware we will have the same apps from osx/windows to iOS

There's nothing pro about this.should have just called it the ipad plus. Surface 4 is better than this in every way.
in every way...ipad pro 4 lags with 2 apps running in the same time? no, the battery is the same? i bet not in fully work flow, we already come in a time when office for windows 10(desktop OS) is almost identical with the Office for iOS.
Why? because the hardware is there to support that..and in 2 more years it will be the same !

All the joys of a bad tablet you meant to say. Really think a lot of you need to try a surface in tablet mode before you talk about its greatness. It makes for a pretty bad tablet experience.
yes as a tablet is not so well build around...it is very hard to close apps..to swtich between them, when you have more than 1 app opened...the lag is there...Surface 3-4 it is a good choice for all in one but is not perfect as a laptop or not perfect as a tablet

The problem is, people are stuck with archaic mindsets, with file systems, mice, etc. Old habits die hard, sadly. People need to get with the times and embrace the new way of doing things. There are many companies that are ditching 'File System' ways of doing things. Even with Microsoft, Office 365 is being pushed more for businesses than ever before, moving things to cloud based ways for working. So all those people stating businesses need file systems, are just being closed minded.

As for people saying about there being no complex/detailed/fully fledged apps, these are coming. The Keynote demoed a few, plus Adobe are working on versions of their apps for iPad Pro. They look that are going to be just as good as the desktop ones.

I'm sure the haters and naive people will poo-poo all this though....
Companies are ditching the "File System" ways of doing things? What do you think the Cloud is?

I am a "general consumer".
I want one to read emails, browse the Internet and watch videos.
I am really looking forward to it.

That's true, some general consumers simply want tablets with bigger screens and better performance and don't mind the price point, which actually isn't that high if they don't need the accessories. They are well within the target audience. So I'll rephrase it to say: it seems the target for the iPad Pro in the general consumer sector is considerably shrunken compared to those of the other iPads, likely due to the fact that the size, price, and function of the iPad Pro approaches and overlaps those of Apple's MacBook lines.

You forgot one new solution - Surface Book. That's what you want.
Mine will be here Monday Morning :)))

I did forget about that one. Of course I'm sure it's not without its own weaknesses, although I hope and imagine they are negligible in your case. Congrats on your purchase!

Actually, it's not the iPad or Apple at fault for the software lacking in ability, it's the developers. I can bet that over the next year or 2, you'll see iOS apps for iPad Pro becoming much more advanced. Until the iPad Pro, there's not been the need anything as complex. It's really unfair to judge based on current iOS apps. Look at the original iPhone, when released, no 3rd party apps. Even when the App Store launched, apps were so simple and nothing much more than websites wrapped in an app shell. Give it time, you'll see.

Based on jobs statement it's a failure. They ran out of ideas and copied the others..

But anyway, by definition it's a computer, as is my Apple Watch.

I consider it a larger iPad personally.

lol it's not unfair to judge based on current apps. You can't just act like apps will come. Look at the watch. Still waiting. Look how long it took to get iPad apps instead of phone apps on the iPad. If people don't buy this product, the apps won't come. And right now. Not a lot of reason to buy this for most people

Jobs was wrong. Why do people act like he was some god that was always right?! He was a human being, we're all fallible.

Yes it is. Anyway, the apps are starting to come though. Adobe and Microsoft have already got them en route. Others will follow. Developers are notoriously slow on the uptake though. Look at WhatsApp, they're forever taking ages to update to take advantage of new features, etc.

i've used many different stylus available for the current iPads and the resolution just isn't that great. sometimes the strokes weren't recognized and it became frustrating after a while.

Did you try the Jot PRO?

I foolishly dismissed it for years because of the awkward looking clear plastic disc at the writing tip. In the mean time I spent a small fortune trying virtually every new Bluetooth and "fine point" stylus as they were released. Many of these were great styluses, but all fell short of the precision and writing feel I desired. A couple months ago I came across an excellent article comparing more than 20 styluses spanning Bluetooth, non-Bluetooth, passive and active categories. This well written and authoritative article surprisingly proclaimed the Jot PRO the best of the bunch. I decided to try one. It was the best $29 I have spent.

The Jot PRO is amazing: precise, smooth, quiet and has no noticeable lag. And because it is passive it works with any app that works with a finger. It is awesome with Notes Plus, Notability and Paper By 53.

Adonit just released the Jot Dash active fine point stylus so I purchased one hoping to get Jot PRO performance without the clear disc. While a fine very pen-like stylus, the Jot Dash is no Jot PRO.

I wish I had tried the Jot PRO earlier. It is an awesome stylus!

steve was right then, if we have iphone or ipad based on stylus like old microsoft tablets or Pads the tech was on the wrong track, but being on fingers and multi touch based is much more UI friendly and easy to use

Why? Why would Adobe bring a full version of Photoshop to ios? Why port premiere to ios where there is no pointing device?
