I'm waiting for the 15" iMac, the 13" AirPadBook, the 13" iPadPro, the $99 iPod Nano, the $25 iPad Shuffle, the new Thunderbolt displays, the MacMini with 3.5" dives and 4 drive bays…

Still waiting.

And so are you.

There are lots of iOS touch only users that would never buy a Macbook, but they will buy an iPad with a larger screen. So with sales of Macs falling and iOS is rising, increasing the product line for iOS is a smart move.

It may look like this....

OSx devices

Mac Mini
Mackbook Air
Macbook Pro

iOS devices

iPad Mini
iPad Air
iPad Pro

I would get a 12" iPad, a lot of my use is Tv/Movies/Newspaper. Think i will wait for it.

Not gonna happen.

This is the reason why I think they've chosen the name 'iPad air':

By naming the new iPad 'iPad air' rather than iPad 5, people who aren't farmiliar with technology won't realise just how old the iPad 2 is, and so the iPad 2 will continue to sell. Additionally, there's the emphasis that this new iPad is lighter/thinner than what's come before it.

iPad Pro March 2014

Touch ID
8mp Camera
12.7" display

That's why it's no longer called the iPad, but iPad Air, to make room for a larger pro model, and now we also have the apps for it with the new Garage Band and iPhoto etc...

Guaranteed to be an iPad Pro, book it, Call it, whatever you want it's happening and part of the so called new product categories.

I agree, and that's what I'll upgrade my 4 to.

I think it is ture that the new 12" retina screen production isn't for the macbook air, it's for these.
Mavericks almost solely focused on under the hood optimizations, allowing under spec'd machines to run faster.
Aren't the new A7 chips about on par with the old 2007 laptop chips?, which Mavericks still supports? A8's will be even faster.
Also, Mavericks memory compression, and GPU enhancements allow low RAM configurations, and integrated graphics to run smoother.

dont forget there is a new power plug being made which is in between the mac book air and the ipadair

Can OSX run on ARM? If yes, then it could also mean Intel is getting the boot from all Apple products. I saw some Anandtech graphics on how the Apple A7 beats the latest and greatest Intel processors. While the A7 may lag the Xeons found in the macpro, future A8 or A9's may have them beat! Very exciting times ahead!!

Don't forget the A7x chip that was missing from today's line-up ;)

thought the air already has an a7x, just not in name

theres only about 12 threads talking about it

im not waiting. if you do youre always waiting. if they come out with a pro in 6 months and i want it....ill buy it. why would you sacrifice 6 months of use to wait on something that may or may not come out

Nope. The iPhone 5S has an underclocked A7 chip. The iPad Air has the non-underclocked version. It's not an A7x though (even without name)

Lol chill out dude. I'm not trying to convince you of anything, just telling people how it is. I myself am getting a retina mini. I've been waiting for one, with either an A6x or A7 I would have bought it. Really happy about the A7 though! For me, it is a perfect product, and I am so happy to have it available to me

They should have named it iPad 5 to prevent these crazy theories. Pro is not happening.

Idk about that. Why else would they name it the iPad Air unless they were planning to name the 12" iPad something different; and more superior. They do the MacBook Air's and the MacBook Pro's already, so it makes perfect sense.

It makes a certain amount of sense although a 12" screen seems rather large for a touch device. With the Surface Pro beating them to the 'Pro' tablet moniker I wonder if Apple would dare call it an iPad Pro.

Apple don't usually drop as much of a hint at future products. So when they revealed the name I immediately knew something was up!

If they did launch an iPad Pro a year from now at the next iPad event, then they'd simply rename the current product at that time (iPad Late 2013 > iPad Air Late 2014).

That makes me think an iPad Pro will drop before then. There's no reason to rename now unless they plan on introducing the Pro during the current cycle of the Air, otherwise they'd have customers kicking off big time at a (another) similar iPad 4 situation.

Actually wanting to introduce an iPad Pro does NOT require changing the name of the existing one to iPad Air. We had MacBooks and MacBook Pros and that's how we knew instantly which was supposed to be the better model.

I'm not saying they're introducing a Pro, and I'm not saying they're not, but either way the Air name has nothing to do with it.

Ipad Mini, iPad & iPad Pro work just fine for distinguishing models.

For me 9.7 is the sweet spot and not some freakazoid tablet

I'm really excited for the iPad Air and will be getting one as soon as I can. Saying that, the idea of a Pro iPad gets me really excited too.

I suppose for many of us, it will come down to functionality. Imagine an iPad that could run a touch version of OSX. Wow.

Wont this p!ss ppl off?

After reading speculation about a pro model early next year, won't that make people mad who feel out dated in 6 months.

Apple has a yearly iphone update schedule which most people who aren't tech savvy know about.

Say these same people buy now then something new comes out so soon after this ipads release, won't Apple risk alienating future buyers especially with the holiday release batch?

I remember when this happened with the iPad 3/iPad 4. Tons of people were mad. If this becomes a trend, seems logical that people will just skip the holiday ipad release and wait till early the following year to get the better version.

Or worse, if buyers constantly feel outdated so soon after a relatively large purchase, will people stop buying apple altogether? Who wants to drop $500-$1000 on a tablet to feel left out in the cold in 6 months?

haha when i saw that in Ipad Pro 12.7 inch ( or whatever size you like) will be 8 MP camera, i laughed a lot! and loud!! haha people laughing at you when you taking a photo with an 9.7 Ipad, imagine you do it with 12.7..... HAHA  :D
Of course on a Ipad Pro should be the best camera avaiable, to make it more convinient to take good quality pictures!
YES THAT MAKES SENSE! ONLY ITS NOT! hahahaha:D im still laughing

How many iPads do we need?

As many as we can get....

No need to go feakazoid. A couple more inches would be great. Choice is good. Just because someone doesn't need or like a 12.7 inch screen doesn't mean someone else wouldn't find it useful. Problem is price. At $929, the top of the line iPad is already into MacBook Air territory. A Pro iPad would probably be competing price-wise with the 11" MBA.
