Honestly, the iPad Pro would be worth buying if there was something significantly different between it and the other iPads.

I tried the demo out at Best Buy, and it was just a big slate of glass and metal that was heavy and the only thing that really caught my eye was the amazing speakers--- which I have nothing but positive words for and hope they implement the speaker idea into their whole lineup.

Other than that, there really is no point for an iPad Pro. It's not really mobile, and if you wanted to watch TV or video on it, the Air does the job better because it's a more relaxing tablet to hold.

The other thing that really bothered me was that the keypad on the pro was different than the air and iPhone, which makes sense because of more screen space, but it gets some getting used to - especially since you have to stretch your fingers across the whole screen to actually type on it.

Is it just me, or is there really no point to the current Pro?

It's just you.

Stop ranting, don't buy it and move on. The actual owners feedback to the Pro has been overwhelmingly positive to a point of gushing about its performance. There has been a curious amounts of snarky cheap shots poking at the 'Pro" name, size, and usage, etc...its become childish and pathetic.

I suspect that a good deal of it is people irritated that it's not an OSX device and can't see past their own limited experiences with iOS. I bought mine as a replacement for my 13" rMBP as my daily driver and travel laptop, and I can already see that the iPP is more than enough machine to handle what I was using my MacBook for. I love the idea that when I go through security at the airport that I won't have to pull out my computer and have it scanned separately from my bag, or that I won't need to carry around my bulky rMBP charger for overnight trips. That I can pull out my computer on the flight and switch between doing some work or watching movies without switching devices, trying to find a way to squeeze my keyboard into the sitting space.

Even just the idea that I could use my iPP as a replacement for my paper notebook in meetings is a huge plus for me; I can't wait until my Pencil arrives. I can absolutely see all the potential this device has, and I'm sorry if others can't but the constant snark and attitude about it is pretty lame. I want to come here and socialize with fellow iPP owners so we can discuss our experiences, good apps, and stuff like that as opposed to being stuck in a constant loop justifying its existence.

loving the big screen , the amazing speed , the logitech backlit keyboard , the apps etc

going from an ipad 3 , its like going from a skoda to a bugatti veyron

a broken pencil is pointless , not the ipad pro

No what pointless is another thread about how the iPad Pro is pointless.
I wish Macrumors would do something to weed out the Microsoft shills.

People have personal opinions.

What is pointless is the people that join these treads with their replies already formulated without reading what the OP raised.

The haters and apologists are the same, just trolling thread after thread looking for fights.

You guys own an iPad pro ?

As an owner I see pros and cons, more pros, what annoys me the most are people who don't own one, and say it's the worst device, and the people whom don't own one and say it's perfect..... The haters/apologists

Just seems to me that it would be a pain and tough to hold for a long period of time. There isn't anything it has that the air doesn't par the pencil.

it's just a lot bigger. it's a power beast but the air is quick enough as it is.

Don't get me wrong it's a stunning device but when i have the air why would i pay 400 more for something thats just bigger?

Then don't. It's not for you; move on. I'm getting tired of explaining and re-explaining why it's a good product for me.

The Pro is significantly faster than the Air 2. Multi screen apps will easily show how much faster the Pro is. Significantly better speakers than any tablet and most laptops, etc....the list goes on and on...

Split screen is like running two iPad Air 2 side by side and just as fast a two separate Air 2's running independently. That is a game changer. It certainly would be cheaper for me if I wasn't as impressed with the Pro but it's so good that I am buying 4 Pro's for my company.

The iPad Pro doesn't need to be justified to anyone except to the actual owner.
I am a professional that owns my own company and will buy several iPad Pros for my application. I am thrilled with the iPad Pro. As far as I am concerned Apple built the Pro for me since I have been asking for a larger tablet device for years now.

Could not agree with you more, i think some people are completely missing the point, they are also missing the whole "pro" thing. I have had my iPad Pro since Friday, so far i'm finding it a joy to use (i'm still waiting for my Apple Pencil to arrive) documents are just brilliant to view on this, I've also downloaded a few Adobe apps which i will use properly when the Pencil Arrives.

Personally i think Apple got this right. to me the iPad Pro is a multi-use device, it's professional but can also consume (Netflix, iTunes, Apple Music) and you can also play games on it. As time moves forward i can see more and more apps being available that will enable the iPad Pro to be even more "Pro" i also think Apple's IOS 10 will add more features next year.

Well, the ipad retains its rounded edges, so yes, I guess there really are no sharp edges (or no points) to the ipad.

At least until the Apple Pencil arrives. Then you can stick it into the lightning port and walk around trying to poke people with it.

Well if we're seriously going to address the OP's points:

Honestly, the iPad Pro would be worth buying if there was something significantly different between it and the other iPads.

Pencil. Pencil. Pencil. Damn it Where's my Pencil??!?!

I tried the demo out at Best Buy, and it was just a big slate of glass and metal that was heavy and the only thing that really caught my eye was the amazing speakers--- which I have nothing but positive words for and hope they implement the speaker idea into their whole lineup.

Every iPad and Galaxy Tab and Surface is a "big slate of glass and metal (or plastic)". But yes the speakers are amazing.

Other than that, there really is no point for an iPad Pro. It's not really mobile, and if you wanted to watch TV or video on it, the Air does the job better because it's a more relaxing tablet to hold.

Yes it is not mobile. How is anything that's 13" in size "mobile"? But I will agree with one thing, it is heavy. Really, it weights around as much as the original iPad (for those who still remember) and all this means that, like the original iPad, this thing needs a case to prop it up. Otherwise it'll slip out of your hands and fall. Mark my words. Also mark your checklist for AppleCare+.

The other thing that really bothered me was that the keypad on the pro was different than the air and iPhone, which makes sense because of more screen space, but it gets some getting used to - especially since you have to stretch your fingers across the whole screen to actually type on it.

Eh... it's exactly what it needs to be. As a pro device it needs a fully decked out keyboard (you'll notice it has all those symbols above the numbers, just like a normal fully featured QWERTY keyboard). But yes, a split keyboard would be nice. iOS 9.3?

Is it just me, or is there really no point to the current Pro?

Seriously? It's just you. If there really was no point, why are so many people looking for a Pencil? There were at least 5 people outside the store in SF yesterday who were asking after the Pencil. Plenty of people see the point. Or rather they're looking for the point.... at the end of an Apple Pencil (ugh.... seriously Apple dropped the ball with this !@#$).

Get that man a apple pencil before he starts using a sharpie marker on the Pro. :)

Haha yes I'm pretty obsessed with it. Well when the iPad first came out, I immediately wanted to use a stylus with it. I still have one of the first iOS apps for drawing - iDraft, which I believe was pulled from the app store at some point. I've had a long history of trying out various styluses (with an emphasis on Palm rejection), and they always never worked well (Pogo Connect, Adonit Jot Touch, etc.). I gave up about a year and a half ago. I knew it had to be done by Apple to really work.

And it's finally come. But I think you know what I'm going to say next so I won't :p

Blah blah Ipad Pro, blah blab blah, blah screen size. Blah blah blah blah OS X . Blah blah blah blah marketing. Blah blah blah blah blah return. Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah no pencil. Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah no point. Blah Blah Blah Greedy.
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah release. Blah Blah Blah too big. Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah expensive .

Enough already.

This 80 inch tv I have hanging on the wall has no point. It does the same crap my 13 inch black and white tube tv does. It's just a bigger screen. Duh

Oh boy.. How much intelligence does it take to understand? And being an early adopter isn't cheap. Never has been. Especially if one is an Apple fan boy such as myself.

Yes, I do own one. I bought it day one and it is the giant iPad that I expected, not that owning one is relevant at all but you can see the proof for yourself. I'm not sure where you get your assumptions from over a suggestion that Macrumors clean up their iPad forum due to posts regarding other products.
I don't mind personal opinions but when you see the same nonsensical comments and made up issues followed by a Surface Pro sales pitch it's clear that these aren't personal opinions but one of those low paying pay-per-post campaigns that Microsoft always engages in when Apple releases a product that they think will compete with theirs. This thread seemed to be heading that way. It's easy to spot because they aren't hiring smart enough people who are capable posting logical content.
I'm not sure where you get the idea that "apologists" who don't actually own the device are posting a defense against the iPad Pro's fallacies, but since you made claim feel free to provide proof of it.

Forget the marketing rubbish about it being a laptop replacement, just cause an iPad Air 2 got bigger, it does not make or a replacement for a laptop.

Well the Ipad Pro IS a laptop replacement for many many people and sorry if you don't think the Ipad Pro is a laptop replacement for you then that's fine, your choice but it does NOT mean that everyone will think the same as you and agree with you!!!

I don't really think ipad pro is pointless and i'm sure the ipad pro will be a big success for Apple!

But i won't be buying it because it's too too big for a tablet for me it definitely defeats the purpose of a tablet for me!!

The size of the Ipad Air 2 is perfect for me!! :)

And where is the Apple marketing that this is a laptop replacement? If it exists I haven't seen it.

Not trying to be argumentative, but by that argument doesn't that mean that not everyone will think the same as you? As "many many people" has not yet been quantified?

I myself have gotten riled up in my emotions before, but we all need to stop speaking in a "matter of fact"; but on the flip side, we need to stop being offended by everyone else's opinions.

Well i haven't seen Apple marketed the Ipad Pro as a laptop replacement but just like with all the 9.7 inch Ipads been released and the Ipad minis it will be a laptop replacement for a lot of people and won't use there laptops that much after buying a ipad.

Newsflash

This is a tech forum! People giving their opinions on devices is what this forum is for.

Nobody here is telling you that it isn't a good product for you.

You are coming off very defensive.

The problem is that you're just repeating an old argument and asking for someone to prove to you otherwise, when it's been done time and again. If you're not going to go back and see the counterpoints that users like me have made, then you're not just sharing your opinion, your piling on.

Huh? I'm replying to the OP topic.

What counter arguments are you on about? It's a great product but it's just a faster air that's got a huge screen

Pencil is a nice feature for sure but it's still not worth the extra 400 from the air. Not when it will cost you another 150 for the pencil and keyboard

I'm sure it's great for you and million others and that's great for me if you have an air I don't see a lot of reasons to buy it if you are using it for same things you use the air for
