It's a niche product, certainly, but when Apple iron out the supply kinks, they're going shift a ton of these things to artists and designers. Pro comic artist PJ Holden has racked up almost 62,000 views of his short Pencil demo on YouTube, and reckons —as a drawing tool— the experience is comfortably the equal of a 12" Cintiq and streets ahead of the Surface Pro 3.

The problem is that you're just repeating an old argument and asking for someone to prove to you otherwise, when it's been done time and again. If you're not going to go back and see the counterpoints that users like me have made, then you're not just sharing your opinion, your piling on.

In all fairness, I do think he is just sharing his personal opinion. Its not an argument that can be proven wrong, its his view on the device itself. I can see his point as I don't benefit from all the new features the pro has that the air doesn't. Without the need/want of the pencil or keyboard, the pro does lose some appeal, and the new features may just appear more "incremental" than "groundbreaking", so to speak. So for them, they are paying 400 bucks more for a larger screen and upgraded internals that may not be noticeable in their uses. It would make sense for people who don't need it, not to have an appeal to it, and share their opinions on why.

Huh? I'm replying to the OP topic.

What counter arguments are you on about? It's a great product but it's just a faster air that's got a huge screen

So you didn't read the now three page thread of replies? Lots of us have explained exactly why it's a great device for many of us. If your point was that it's just not for you, okay fine I get that. Your first post, though, came across as saying that you didn't see why anyone would want it because it's just a bigger screen.

Yeah, fair enough. I guess when someone says "why should I...?" or "why would someone...?", I take it as a call for feedback rather than just sharing an opinion. I of course am totally understanding of the fact that no device is right for everyone; it's when people try to make the case that a device is not good for anyone, especially when I am enjoying it so much and want to share that experience with fellow enthusiasts, that I start to chafe a bit. ;)

I would personally never tell anybody what to buy because everybody has different needs and lifestyles

If the price wasn't so high would I buy it? Yes for sure but seeing as I have the air 2 I don't see a lot of point. I've spend about £2,500 this year on Apple products so for one I need to stop buying things till at least next October

That said even though I'm not buying it I will still take parts in discussions about the pro as it is s great product after all. I'm tech mad so I look forward to reading everybody's view of it good or bad

I love the size. Definitely worth the upgrade for my use which is mostly media consumption. When I get the pencil though, it's gonna be even better and I can actually get some work done on this thing.

Had the iPad Pro for a day and a half to try to use as a laptop replacement and it was a miserable day. But then again, everyone has different uses. My workflow is centered around Microsoft Outlook and Excel and the mobile apps don't cut it. Yes, the iPad Pro is pointless to ME because MY uses are different. Everyone has different needs so it may not be pointless to everyone else. For me, an iPad Mini and the Retina Macbook are a perfect combination. I need the full desktop experience and for those who travel a lot, it's also great that I don't have to pull this out of the bag at TSA check points.

In my opinion, the iPad Pro launch was pointless without the apple pencil. Had it been readily available, I would have kept it longer. At least Microsoft got it right and at least included the damn thing out of the box with the Surface Pro and the keyboards were very well stocked on every Surface Release :p

I went to the Apple Store yesterday to look at them and I agree. It's too big and heavy. I can see it being used by some people who need a bigger screen for certain tasks but for the average person, forget it. Its just a bigger clumsy iPad that most people won't need.

Totally agree. I got one last Friday and I'm still not sure if the extra screen size is worth the extra weight. I love my air 2 and decided no harm in trying this beast out, it really feels like an air plus. Would have liked to get the pencil and keyboard with it but no luck, could be weeks.

Interesting thing is the usual 14 day return period has been significantly extended for the holiday period. I have
2 months to play with it and decide if I want to keep it!

Still constrained by iOS .

Kudos to those that can use iOS to take advantage of the extra Power. I admit it's just a iPad plus for me.

I don't like mobile optimised apps compared to the desktop versions.

Releasing the ipad pro will pave the way for comparable ios apps vs their desktop counterpart.

I get your point now, but apple will have to start somewhere to get development of ios apps a step further.
In 3 years, when apps have significantly improved , apple will release a macbook based on ARM hw and software/mac os.

Honestly, the iPad Pro would be worth buying if there was something significantly different between it and the other iPads.

I tried the demo out at Best Buy, and it was just a big slate of glass and metal that was heavy and the only thing that really caught my eye was the amazing speakers--- which I have nothing but positive words for and hope they implement the speaker idea into their whole lineup.

Other than that, there really is no point for an iPad Pro. It's not really mobile, and if you wanted to watch TV or video on it, the Air does the job better because it's a more relaxing tablet to hold.

The other thing that really bothered me was that the keypad on the pro was different than the air and iPhone, which makes sense because of more screen space, but it gets some getting used to - especially since you have to stretch your fingers across the whole screen to actually type on it.

Is it just me, or is there really no point to the current Pro?

The size alone is significant.

I got mine last night and I am really liking it. The only thing that drives me crazy is the 3D Touch.
I am so used to that, and it would be so useful on the Pro, beings that moving your hand across all this real estate is annoying and cumbersome when you can use use your keyboard to move your curser (like on the 6s).
Other than that, I love this thing.

Mine is being returned today. The botched launch with iPad Pros available but no accessories is also going to increase the return rate since those are key selling points. The Pro highlights to me the current limitations of iOS and how Apple needs to innovate more then just making an iPad with a bigger screen. The home screen looks strange without more icons - they could have at least fixed that in iOS 9 before launch. I think right now the only iPad Pro is a MacBook and the iPad Pro is an iPad Plus which is still mainly for consumption for most people not productivity. I hope we see a better strategy from Apple next year with iPads.

I have an Air 2 and went into Apple to buy the iPad Pro. I walked out with an iPad Mini 4. Hmmmmm....

If you want a huge iPad then cool. As much as I'm an Apple fanboy, the Pro is trying to compete with the Surface and fails miserably, in my opinion.

How is it trying to compete with the surface when it doesn't run a desktop operating system? People have used keyboards with iPads before iPad Pro.

If I wanted a laptop to use with mouse and keyboard, I wouldn't give an iPad a second thought. If I wanted a tablet for optimised touch use, I wouldn't give a surface pro the time of day.

iPad is a great tablet that can do some productivity. SP is a great laptop that has some touch features. Neither is the perfect device.

Arguably iPad pro has a better chance of dealing with its shortcomings through dev support, faster than MS can make their OS more optimised for touch.

You don't want it, so nobody else should either? Right?

I have a really novel idea. I think we should all buy the size devices that work well for ourselves. No one size fits all. Now, everyones happy.
