A guy on Youtube has the new Magic Keybaord for IPad Pro. 11 inch version. He says it weighs 0.6kg. He’s answering other questions on there now as we speak.

Which is roughly the same weight at the 12.9 iPad Pro itself

He also says the trackpad is *not* haptic

Some more tidbits:
- It's the 11-inch version.
- He really likes the trackpad swiping and scrolling
- Also really likes the typing experience
- Does not like the materials - same as Smart Keyboard Folio
- Does not like the weight - very heavy
- USB-C is charging only
- He says the trackpad is same as a MacBook, but also that it's not haptic. He followed this up saying you can click anywhere on the trackpad.
- It cannot be folded back. There is a maximum fold-back angle.
- The angle before you engage 'lift-off' from the bottom third of the case is very shallow - below 90 degrees.
- The angle adjustment is very smooth.
- He has an issue with the top-right area of the top row of keys. When typing at certain angles, he is hitting the underside of the iPad and he says it is an issue.
- Backlight adjustment is based on ambient light but can be done manually from settings
- The box is simple and does not contain anything else. It shows three positions on the back, see screenshot:

Looks like trackpad might be haptic now apparently.

Apple really should have stated the facts on the website. Charge only and the weight should have been listed. The same goes for the trackpad technology.

So really the only things we didn’t know were about the material, weight and trackpad although we assumed the weight would be about what its turned out to be - which I think is the same ballpark as the Brydge one?

I thought we knew the usb-c port was for passthrough charging only - I’m sure tech podcasts had mentioned this when it was announced.

Weight would have been good to know but isn’t really a surprise. And if its distributed more than the Brydge ones (as in there’s two parts to it), I’m still optimistic about how it feels.

The trackpad is still a point of contention, I think in some of the shots (the webcam quality was quite poor) the trackpad did seem to depress a lot like the pre-force-touch trackpads.

Also, I think he disconnected the trackpad and it still 'clicked'.

To be honest, this makes the most logical sense. It ain't easy putting a haptic trackpad into an accessory.

Yeah. He just removed th iPad from the case and the trackpad continued to ‘click’...

He says in the video this is the 11 inch version that he’s showing. So, the 11 inch version weighs .6kg! So 3.25 lbs for 11 inch case +2018 11 inch WiFi IPP. He also confirms:
- It does NOT fold back for use in tablet mode
- The trackpad in NOT Haptic Touch like MBP
- Case exterior material same as Smart Keyboard folio....argh! I hate the exterior material on SKF...scratches easily!

He says in the video...he likes Smart Keyboard Folio better! He says he loves the typing better on Magic KB, but does not love the material used or the weight.

I’ve got mine on order. Will just have to decide whether to keep the Smart Keyboard Folio (11 inch) which I just bought ”open box” (pristine) for $145. The magic keyboard is double that!

Yeah he just sid that he prefers the keyboard folio. He says typing is better on the magic Keybaord, but he prefers the weight of the smart Keybaord folio.

I kinda expected all of thee points - I will obviously have to wait and see for myself but I wanted a proper keyboard and trackpad experience on the iPad Pro so I don't think I will mind the weight. For travel, there's always my Smart Keyboard I already have...

Which makes total sense given the two products as they’re very different.

Not sure from where, but I’ve known it was charge only since announcement. They must have listed it somewhere...

I've watched this entire hour-long stream so you don't have to. AMA. Also see my updated tidbits in the first post.

Yeah, it based on comparable products, it was pretty easy to guess it would be ~1 lb and something (and probably < 1.5). For me, it's a "desktop accessory", so the weight, even considering carrying it for travel, has no impact.

The USB-C is a bit of a bummer, I think it was mentioned in some footnote somewhere, but I was still hopeful. It would've been slick to keep my hub connected and be able to just lift the iPad off the keyboard without having to disconnect something else. It must be some limit with the smart connector, it can do power, and their KB interface, but not provide full USB bus access.

I’m confused by the videos. It appears he has a separate case on the iPad. Doesn’t the keyboard require connection to the smart connector?

Glad I ordered the cheaper Logitech one instead. The limited fold back is a no go for me. It would make my neck hurt for sure with the too upright angle

It's good that it weighs this much, given the angles. The fact this guy has another case on it when reviewing this seems a little rushed.

Well, it's the first review on Planet Shutdown. This is getting a lot of buzz.

Actually I think it should it be about 2.35lb, as 473g IPP + 600g MK =1073g or 2.35lb, the same as the MacBook 12” with typical case cover.

I guess the issue for me is, then what's the point? Unless you REALLY need touch, why not just go with a MacBook? If you need Pencil support, this case is a poor proposition. Any time you would want to use the Pencil, you will have to take it out of the case. So then you will have a naked iPad and a case sitting somewhere that has to be dealt with. Just doesn't make sense.

This is clearly for those that want the iPad to replace a MacBook. I am in the camp of just buy a MacBook and don't try to fit a square peg into a round hole.
