You may be getting ahead of yourself there, Apple haven't even announced it yet at least give them the chance to do that and see for yourself what they announce. Rumours are not always correct, Apple could have features that are part of IOS 9.1 designed just for the iPad Pro, there is also the rumoured USBC port (not confirmed) but these are all rumours who knows what Apple is going to do.
I honestly hope you're right, and that there is more to this than what's leaked or rumored. But these days, Apple isn't as good at keeping a secret (for good reason) and I have yet to see anything intriguing.

If this turns out to just be a ≈13" ipod touch, then bring back the 17" MBP instead.
There are a lot more PROs who need a new one of those. :)

That seems to target a very niche market (i.e. artists). And aren't' there already bluetooth pens available with decent resolution already?

Artists who live with Wacom devices are one thing. But thinking wider in an office type environment it'd be awesome as a note taking device. One of our directors uses his Samsung Note, it's ok, but the screen is a bit small. Something iPad sized would be awesome. With the larger screen on the Pro A4 documents could also be close to 1:1 in size.

The Wacom pens that are available currently do a job, but no match to a proper pressure sensitive display (link for reviews):

I like the Surface Pro 3, but there are too many limitations (poor keyboard my main gripe - hoping the butterfly mechanism from the MacBook line makes it into any 1st party iPad Keyboard case/cover). I also don't like the fact the fan whirs - with Apple prowess at A series SoC design they will be able to finally create something powerful and fanless (I think this is the real reason we haven't seen a Pro iPad until now - the chips just weren't low power enough for this kind of device to be fanless).

Then obviously the fact that a new iPad would have all the other benefits of an Apple device - hand off, Apple Store customer service, build quality etc.

Um, buy a Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10. Freaking amazing and will do anything/everything you'd ever want to try and accomplish. This iPad "Pro" crap is just dumb. It's not going to be innovative at all...just another money-grab from Apple.
I agree with your reasoning, however, when working with money grabs, buying software twice is just that. Office365 takes care of part of that. I'd like to have one purchase for my devices and not have to worry about upgrading my devices and losing out my software purchase. It's been awhile since I've bought Windows Software, and they may have changed the model, but for the most part, if I have a Windows device in my cache of devices, then I'm buying stuff twice to be on the different O/S.

I know this is nit-picky, but it is how I convinced my wife to buy an iPad mini rather than 3 Nintendo 3DS for the kids. "Hey honey, we buy this, and the games go to all the kids, and the ROI is 5 games. Plus, our movies will work on them as well."

If I were a business, I'd definitely go with the Surface Pro for my employees to go along with their iPhones and have a Windows Server Back end with Exchange for e-mail. Outlook web access made Exchange better than Mac Server Mail after Lion (or whenever webmail was dropped - haven't seen if it was added back in).

I'm definitely interested but with one condition - it must have stylus (and really good one, suitable for professional creative use). The possibilities for various creative uses with stylus are endless. I'm sure app developers will quickly enable us to do things we even can't imagine yet.

Well I guess you won't be buying it.

iPad support is pretty bad already among devs. I wouldn't rush out to get this as apps would need to be updated. Very few use these productively. I have one for home use and wouldn't pay more than a couple hundred for any ipad these days.
It's a chance it may run ElCapitan and not iOS.

The devise size is only a small detail. What are the rumours of the OS? They can't be planning to just give us the stock iOS we have today?

Then again with a bigger screen size and more power (maybe twice the current gen) it will allow you to open Flappy Bird quicker..

It is going to sell more than Apple Watch for sure. I may see it

That's really an unfair jab at the Watch. The iPad has been out for several years and the Watch has been out only a few months. Of course something well established with a high success history is going to have more leverage in sales, especially when a major upgrade to the existing line happens.

I am curious if the iPad Pro becomes reality. But I fear that it will not create a new ecosystem and unfortunately is too late. Let me explain:

I have an application on Mac OS X which I once tried to port to iOS. I did not do it because of two things: Small screen and no stylus. None of my customers ever asked for it even though we all knew, this would be perfect. It simply was not possible without a pointy stylus.

Now, if a big screen and a stylus indeed would happen, would I care to finally develop it for iOS? Probably not. It's too late. Enthusiasm has worn off and supporting a whole application for a different platform is very time consuming. There will be existing developer studios which will overrun the market within weeks with standard software. Standard. Not Pro. I as an independent developer have no chance of getting into that market.

And we all are in the dark on how many people really will buy such (most likely very) expensive equipment. This results in a niche market which - as it seems to me as an independent developer - will not nearly come close to the sales I have now on the Mac App Store. And they are not too great to start with. Additionally, iOS is not even fun to develop. So why bother.

I will observe but I am not enthusiastic. People use Desktops and Laptops. That is what I observe now. I can't live off potential.

Lots of ignorance in this thread. It's simply a larger ipad. There's no OS X here. This will flop.

Ios for the iPad just stinks. How people can compare this with a surface is just bizarre.

There's a diffence between being inovative and meeting demand. Apples historicaly has focused on inovation, but once a product has reached maturity, it is also important to meet demand.

"Who wants a stylus?" - Apple - Steve Jobs at Macworld 2007 in San Francisco

I use a stylus with a Cintiq to draw. Am I doing it wrong according to Steve? Should I use my finger? Or maybe voice commands? You see that phone that Steve is pointing to in the video still? I think that’s a big clue as to what device he was talking about when he said “who wants a stylus”.
Sorry, I'm mostly just jabbing, but there are just too many of these comments that quote SJ's remark out of context.

In all seriousness, I imagine quite a few people will want this. As long as they don't start making features exclusive to the Pro then I'm happy.

Ooh I wouldn’t get your hopes up about that. The priority for iPad Air and Mini are portability while the Pro is (supposedly) going to have more emphasis on productivity, so it’s natural that Apple would put more specs and features on the Pro than the Air or Mini.

There are a couple reasons my work place won't buy the current iPad to give to scientists / workers in the field. They could be convinced to go with an iPad in line of business with...

  • Higher nit (light intensity units) for viewing in bright light
  • Sapphire screen for durability (is that possible?)
  • Loooong battery -- a 12.9 inch screen should have a 12.9 inch batter so that's solved
  • USB-c to hook up tons of peripherals and write to flash drive
  • Multitasking (solved)
  • Built in NFC RF maybe barcode reader

1. It may come with higher nit but you could also always put an anti-glare screen cover on it.
2. For real durability you’d need a rugged 3rd party case. Big screens are always going to be shatter-prone without one.
4. USBc is rumored.
6. NFC is rumored.
Looks like your scientists will be in good shape, assuming they have the app(s) they need.

iPad Pro must be the most annoying rumor on this site.

Monday. iPad Pro is coming.
Tuesday. iPad Pro not likely.
Wednesday. iPad Pro to be launched with new iPhone
Thursday. No iPad Pro release.
Friday. iPad Pro rumor was based on leaked spec's of a Galaxy Tablet
Saturday. iPad Pro? Maybe
Sunday. Wait for the big news monday. Now repeat...

I would love iPad Pro. But will it come? I don't think so.

I think the updated Apple TV has been right there as well.

However it the specs are right (meaning if it is running OSX and I can also run other operating systems), I might look into this replacing the family laptop.

I just want to see the specs and hope it is running OSX. So it can replace my PC laptops.

Hopefully this iPad Pro turns out to be a full OS X machine and not a glorified iPad.

Don't get your hopes up too high. It’s pretty much for sure running iOS. And as far as I know, dual boot is pretty much out of the question because it would require both an ARM and Intel chip. Best I believe we can hope for is that iOS 9.1 on the Pro gives us more OS X type functionality, and that apps follow suit.

What goes up, must come down.

This will be a flop and Apple is doomed.

Just kidding.

But it better be good. Better have powerful specs (talking quad-core processor, huge battery, at least 3GB of RAM, powerful GPU, etc.) to be considered a "Pro" iPad. OS X would be cool, too. We'll see how it goes.

Don't screw it up, Apple.

I don't understand this at all. Didn't they learn anything from the "Apple without Steve" era? Three ****ing iPad sizes...are you serious? And they all run iOS? That's some real ****ing innovation right there. Isn't the iPad Air big enough? I can't wait to see people walking around with their behemoth iPod Touch "Pros" in hand. Hilarious.

If you're not going to really go after the hybrid market (i.e. Surface and others), just go home. What is the point? To fragment your product line further? You already have a Macbook (2015) and Macbook Air redundancy problem, and you're going to muddy the iPad product line the same way?

First you totally kill off the Mac Mini for any real usage, then you redesign the Macbook line to be more like the Macbook Air, without redesigning the Air line (making both of them redundant), and now this. Terrible. Just terrible.

Is apple basically doing what it did last time without Steve Jobs? Where they just kept adding models of computers?

I don't think so.

When Steve died, Apple had 3 laptops, 3 desktops, 4 iPods, the Apple TV, the iPad, and the iPhone. 14 products total.

Today, Apple has 3 laptops, 3 desktops, 3 iPods (down one), the Apple TV, two iPads (maybe 3), two iPhones (maybe 3), and the Apple Watch. 15 products total, with the potential to have 2 more.

So they've grown in some areas while shrinking in others. This isn't anywhere near as bad as it was when Steve Jobs returned and they had 60 some projects that didn't work well or seem to have any purpose for existing.

If they went on to only add new products and not discontinue old ones, I would be concerned, but I expect that over time, more products will get the axe.

When you've run out of new products - resize the old one ... at least 'til the public start realising that's all you're doing :-( Until then hello super sized iPhone (iPad Pro)/really big iPhone (iPad)/big iPhone (iPad Mini) /iPhone/tiny iPhone (Apple Watch)c...do you see the pattern here?

In 10 years Scott Forstall will return to take Apple from near bankruptcy just like Steve did in the late 90s. Mark my words.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg.... Thank you!!! =)
That is hilarious. You made my day.... I mean, I genuinely spewed some coffee from my nose whilst reading that but soooooo worth it! =)
The only thing that could make that ridiculous comment even more funny is if you were NOT trying to be silly & actually believe that.
