From the iPads I've seen I've noticed the distortion you refer to to some degree. Both my wife and I have an iPad Pro each and both exhibit the issue in certain areas when applying pressure. I think mine is worse though since applying light pressure with the pencil in a similar area shown in the image in your original post gives the distortion/rippling. I've got a genius appointment booked for Monday but I'm wondering if it's even worth it if most have this to some degree... :(

It is not worth it, if you ask me. All units were affected by the pressure-thing here. Some more some less, but not THAT much less.

We decided to keep the iPads and I'm going to order that AppleCare+ for them, - that way we can be completely sure, Apple would replace them down the road, in case of some pressure marks or something else.

I have it on mine too. I have to press really hard to see it, harder than I'd ever press normally, and the Pencil doesn't seem to create the distortion regardless of pressure, so not a big deal to me. Screen brightness uniformity, on the other hand, is a problem.

Did you learn anything from your appointment?

I cancelled my appointment in the end since I didn't want to risk getting a worse unit. I've stopped noticing the issue to be honest but I still have until January to decide if I want to keep it I suppose...

I don't even want to look on mine. If I have it, I have it.
It doesn't damage the experience or functionality of this wonderful device so why worry about it?!

My screen does this with moderate pressure. It's worse in the center (slightly bottom right) of the screen, and I can see the distortion even when I press in the near proximity.

I wouldn't say it's normal use since I typically don't press hard on the screen. It took me two weeks to notice it while I was cleaning the screen.

Should I check it out with the Genius Bar? I hate non-perfect Apple products give the high costs.

I hate the anxiety that comes with Apple quality these days.

Mine has it too. Near the bottom center of the screen above the home button. Between that and the overall unevenness of the display, this is hands down the worst product I've ever bought from Apple, and possibly my least favorite computer/tablet device I've owned.

Whether you have this issue or not, I think that getting AppleCare+ is a great move that will help you to relax and enjoy your iPP more. Hopefully the issue stops being a distraction after a while.

For reference, I just got a new iPP (after returning my original and then regretting it) and I don't see this issue at all with moderate pressure anywhere on the screen. Obviously I'm not going to push too hard to try and make it happen.

I have this basically in the same spot too. I went to the Apple Store and tested it on theirs that are on display and saw it in the same spot as well. It's hard to say if I was applying more or less pressure however.

On white backgrounds it's harder to notice. It's easiest to spot this if you change to the Neptune wallpaper and press toward the bottom of the planet while in portrait.

I'm starting to get over it as I don't think there is a way around it. I love everything else about the iPad pro :D

Same problem here. Noticed a slight discoloration when painting in procreate. Its most noticeable on dark backgrounds.

It's not necessarily a fault, this happens pretty much on all LCD screens. On the iPad Pro this is more noticeable because the screen is large and the glass covering it is very thin, much thinner than on a laptop (to reduce the parallax effect when writing with the Pencil). Remember, this is a touch screen, not a "press screen".

This is why we won't probably see 3D Touch on the iPad Pro very soon.

My IPP screen is more than perfect! it's just as nice as my phones screen, which is also very perfect!

I'm sorry, but whoever made this video is an idiot, and doesn't deserve to have any electronic products until they take a class on the basics of having 1k dollar toys.

Once you realize there isn't 3D Touch on the device, why in the world would you keep pushing the screen as hard as this guy is? Also, if he always pushes that hard on an iPhone 6S, he's gonna break it at some point.

Just when I was cleaning my screen I realized there is an area where this happens to me but for it I have to pressreally hard so it doesn't bother me because I never do that. My only doubt is that I have Glass Screen protector so that has me thinking what would happen without it

I only notice it when I have my palm resting on the right side of the Pro as I am writing with the pencil.

Without my palm resting on the screen, I have to apply harder pressure to notice it. The pressure of my palm must just be making it easier to notice with the pencil in a specific spot.

Mine did the same thing. When I put my hand on the screen to use the pencil, a ripple of distortion would appear right in the middle, towards the bottom. I took it back the next day for an exchange as I was really loving the pencil and how it felt and performed. However, as I was waiting to be helped at the Apple store I checked every iPad Pro on display and they all did it. When the employee came up to help me, I just had them refund my money. It's WAY TOO MUCH MONEY to allow them to get away with that. This is a premium Apple "Pro" product, I will not compromise. I'll give them my money when they fix it, until then, looking forward to the next model.

I posted a similar thread a week or so ago, and had a few responses saying it was normal.

Not entirely convinced, I went to 2 Apple stores and tested a total of 15 or 20 iPPs for the issue. All showed the issue to some extent, however all varied in terms of amount of pressure required to see the effect, and location of the discoloration.

Compared to mine, most of the display models were slightly worse (the effect was larger, or more easily triggered), however one or two were better (harder to trigger).

I decided that the issue was indeed on all (or most) current iPPs and that mine was better than average, and didnt return mine.

For those saying they dont have it at all - I would be really interested to know more details (e.g. have you tried on various colors, various locations, with the apple pencil)? Mine is past its 2 week return date now, but I would still consider swapping if my conclusion that its normal was wrong.

My iPad Air 2 has the exact issue. Unfortunately I'm not in a country where we have Apple Stores.

I just got mine today 15 minutes ago and it has a dead white circle about 0.5 inch near bottom right. Now I have to return it. I am so so mad. I bought it brand new in the box from Amazon and so I have to return it then buy another one. I can't return it at the Apple store.

I had a similar issue with my iPad PRO 12.9. And I just found out what caused it.

There was one spot on the display that would show the distortion (called Newton rings).

The distortion would appear with very light pressure. And also when lightly pressing in another area of the display, the same spot would distort. Even when pressing at the back of the iPad, the spot would appear.

I went to the Apple store and showed it to them.

They gave me a new pad. They also mentioned this could happen when the ipad had been dropped. (mine hadn't).

After a few days of using the new iPad, the issue slowly started to re-appear.

It was then that I found out my cheap rotating swivel case had caused the problem.

I was using this type of case:

This case has a rotating point at the back which is not flush but stands out a bit on the inside.

It presses against a small focused area at the back of the iPad, causing it to slightly bend and produce the newton rings on the display.

I am now using a non rotating cover and everything is fine.

So, in response to an earlier post saying that it's a myth about whether or not this affects the display, I can confirm that it does, there is now a permanent pressure mark, not from applying stupid amounts of pressure either....returning it this weekend.
