Any metal device will bend under enough stress. However, the new models’ metal is thinner and the structural design inferior to prior models. I know it’s cringe-worthy, but here is someone dropping a 10.5 next to an 11 for direct comparison:

I returned an 11” because it felt very flimsy compared to prior iPads and bought a 10.5”. I have owned 10 other iPad models and all were solid, well made products.

That is not the point. The point is it is a weak build product from a structural integrity POV. If you ever to have a kid sit on it, it's wrecked. Carry it in in a bag pack and it get squished - most likely wrecked.

Apple did an easy on the consumer, who has to treat it like picture, rather than a day-to-day use product.

A shame.

The fact is I’m more worried about warping than bending in regards to my useage with daily travel use my current sleeves and bags. Not that any damage is good😵 no matter how it manifests itself.

I guess I’m nuts enough to just use the Apple folio and keyboard folio and cross the AppleCare+ bridge if I have to. That said I’ve got some camera lenses and camera bodies that are making me review my camera bags and ThinkTank backpack while with the iPad Pro. For that kind of use maybe Otterbox is in my future. Or I may seek to reinforce the iPad compartments.
 
The issue is similar to the iPhone 6, aluminium is a soft metal and Apple has pushed the material beyond its limit and for reasons unknown, decided not to reinforce it with stainless steel plates, or they can just use 7-series aluminium like what they did with the 6s which didn't have the issues found in 6.

Though considering how much Apple has now, I wonder why they kept repeating this mistake.

I think you should be just fine with just your keyboard case. I personally got a pro case sleeve to put mine in when on the go but I think even just the Smart Keyboard will be ok.
 
Had some time to kill at the mall and dropped by the Apple Store. First time I’d seen these new iPads in person.

I tried some light flexing and they flexed so much it’s scary. I checked to see if some weren’t bent already; two space grey units looked OK, but a silver one was already becoming a boomerang.

I tried them, the new Apple Pencil is OK (impressive, but I’m not in the business of drawing so for me it’s useless), and the speakers are impressive. But I came back home to my 2015 12.9 and the only thing I’d like to have is the ProMotion screen. Not enough to warrant a new device much less one that will bend just by looking at it.

Thought about trading in my 9.7 Pro for this new pro but think I’ll wait... I just got a new Smart Keyboard after Apple replaced the old beat up one under warranty for QC issues. I just think they cut a lot of corners here by not using a stronger alloy or reinforcing it with a strong frame. I don’t want to spend 750 for a piece of tech that warps under normal use. Maybe with a discount it’ll be more enticing.

Apple told The Verge that some 2018 iPad Pro models are indeed shipping with a "very slight bend in the aluminum chassis," which is a "side effect of the manufacturing process" that is not expected to worsen over time or negatively effect the iPad's performance "in any practical way."

Apple says the bend, which can impact both sizes of the new 2018 iPad Pro models, is caused by a cooling process involving the iPad Pro's metal and plastic components during manufacturing. Apple told The Verge that the bend is not considered to be a defect.

2018 iPad Pro models that are exhibiting this problem have it right out of the box, according to Apple, so it does not appear to be an issue that shows up over time. There were videos indicating that the new iPad Pro models bend more easily than other models, but Apple says that concerns over the iPad Pro's "structural rigidity" are "unfounded" and that it "stands by the product." Apple has not experienced higher-than-normal return rates for the 2018 iPad Pro.

Just wait, when you might need warranty repair for something else, they will deny it saying "your ipad is bent, therefore warranty is voided" just like when the battery replacement was voided if your screen was cracked"

Yep, I reported about my iPad initially but instead was attacked by people who thought they knew better. Even the Apple employee thought I sat on my iPad. Well guess what, turns out the it was bent out of the box as I initially suspected!

So who exactly are the legit video reviews? Are they the ones who only give positive feedback and ignore build quality issues?

Also, not everyone can go to an Apple Store as they do not exist at every corner of the world.... "Wow. What a concept!"

Hey, i am just pushing back a little on this wave of anxiety. And yes, there are tons of legit videos out there...and some of them quite critical about price and other things...but don’t mention bending...cause its NOT an issue for them or the vast majority of people who buy one of the new ipad pros.

And Apple’s return policy applies wether there is an Apple store near you or not. If you are one of the miniscule amount of people who get an ipad with a slight, imperceptible bend out of the box...and it bothers you...just send it back! It’s no different than if you had a dead pixel or just didn’t want it for any reason.

I live in NYC in the art comminity, and most of my friends have upgraded to the new ipad pros...and neither I or them have gotten a bent ipad out of the box...or bent it since. And we don’t sit at a desk using them. We put them in our backpacks and travel with them out to remote locations.

Leave the anxiety, the anxiety will cause Apple to keep the quality of products high.

At this price point not even 1 should be bent, THAT is the point.

Taking a device back is an inconvenience nobody wants.
