Yes... so I place an order for pickup. HOWEVER... the Apple Pencil is not available for pickup!!! WHAT!!!

Isn't that the whole point of this device? I'm going to go to the Apple store anyway (less than 5 miles from me) and see if they have one available. If not, that's a serious screw up on their part.

I'm not sure that accessory is the whole point of the device. You can use any iPad without a stylus. Granted, it was a selling point but it's an accessory and not required in order to use your iPad Pro. A stylus and keyboard are optional.

I do agree that they should be in stock, though, for anyone who wishes to purchase them.

Steve jobs shot down the stylus when he introduced the iPhone. Stylus and phones are stupid.

iPads have always been about media consumption. They are great for reading books, watching videos or browsing web pages. The pro version takes the iPad one step further by making it a stellar device for creating content ( pencil for drawing or sketching notes; keyboard for typing documents; and powerful hardware to make it all work seemlisly)

Most people are consumers (iPad mini and iPad are are probably best for you; a select few will actually want/need the capabilities of the pro for creating.

Although most people could get away with an iPad Air (myself), we will see many people choosing a pro version just because they can. The MacBook line is a great example of this logic. A lot of people buy the pro version when they could easily get by with a MacBook Air.

I realize this post drift far from the original post. Sorry, I'm a fan boy. I will plug any defense whenever I can.
Well said and I admit that I fall into the consumer category and not the select few you referred to. I bought an iPad Pro because I wanted one and because I could :D

Was it listed as not available for pickup and you just grabbed one in-store? I was worried that there might not even be any in stores at all today, Now I'm considering making it to the store opening.

If the supply is really limited it wouldn't be unusual for Apple to disable the pickup in store system.

Long enough that if you buy the device now you'll be out of return period by the time you get to try the Pencil. Which is clever on their part, I guess, but really annoying.
I just phoned them and they had them in

Thanks. I'm looking at the system and it's pretty clear they've disabled pick up in store for the Pencil entirely. I can't even find a way to look at Pencil stock for individual stores now. Maybe the stores will generally have them and Apple wants them to be available to walk-ins. Might be the same for the keyboard.

There wasn't any cases etc though - at least not out in the store. I'm going to try and find one that actually holds the pencil so I don't forget it when I go out! And the Apple cases do seem a right rip off.

Now, I think I know why they insisted on telling everyone "later this week". Pretty much the same as restaurants who give you a wait time of 30 minutes when they know that it will be less. Okay, there is a difference. At least the restaurant gives you a definite time; they don't say oh, later today  But, I think the reasoning behind it is in the same vein.

If that's the case, i'll walk into my local Apple store and see if i can get the Pencil alone. I'm waiting to get the iPad Pro from Tmobile this Friday.

Will there be lines at the stores? I wanna pick up mine but don't have time to wait.

I'm not getting the pencil. I have no use for it. Not an artist. But I can certainly see its usefulness. I have tried drawing with my finger, just for giggles, and I cannot even make a line where I want it. Sometimes I buy something and have to sign with my finger on a phone or tablet, and the signature looks NOTHING at all like mine. The pencil is significant. But only if you have uses for it. I'm surprised they're selling the tablet before they have adequate stock of the pencil, but maybe they just could not adequately estimate the demand for it, since they'll sell fewer pencils than Pros.

You guys better post early impressions after you get it. That would be most helpful and appreciated cause there aren't any reviews anywhere.

We've got a report on another thread that the Pencil is currently only available to reserve for in-store pickup if you're a business customer. In his particular store they were out of Pencils for non-business customers by the time he came in. So basically I'd try it, but you may still not get one.
