Replace a laptop? NO WAY.

Why would anyone want to 'do' things slower, less efficiently and more awkwardly?

If you're using you're iPad to 'absorb' content sure, it's great for that. For getting things done, no, it's a limited device and time waster.

That being said, my iPad is my favorite of all my Apple devices, it compliments my MacBook Air, 17" MBP and Mac Pro.

Don't have desktop. Haven't had one in years.

MBP + 2TB backup drive is my "desktop" now.

With new iPad, still use laptop the same amount, maybe a little less, however I mainly use it for the heavy work like ripping DVD's and such. Basically, whatever the iPad can't do, the MBP does.

Love them both.

No change in desktop usage, I'm still on my desktop about 85% of the time while I'm at home. My MacBook Pro however, rarely gets used anymore thanks to the iPad.

I have my main PC, a macbook pro and now an ipad. I still use my PC just as much for gaming, but i dont even touch my macbook pro now, just use my ipad for what my macbook was for....emails/websurfing/netflix

My MacBook saw very little use for a long time after I got an iPad, but now I'm close to splitting my time between them. Still love my laptop. :)

All I use my desktop for is to do android development stuffs. And to add music to my gmusic cloud. Otherwise I don't touch a laptop at all. For me it's
iPad 90%
Desktop 10%

Using my iPad 90% of the time. The rest is on my Mac mini, where I edit some videos, watch 1080p movies, converting movies, etc.

When I got my iPad 3, I used it heavily for the 1st week, then none the second week. I found myself picking up my laptop and phone to browse. I think I love my laptop too much to replace it with an iPad.

Use IPad for almost everything. Making power points or longer papers I use my laptop but shorter papers 5 pages or less I use the iPad

still use my desktop on a daily basis and use my ipad at night time when i am browsing in bed.

Sold my laptop to buy an iPad 2 about a year ago and haven't really missed it you have to do some digging to get the apps you need for the functionality you want but that wasn't to bad. My biggest thing was getting a AirPrint compatable printer and scanner.

I have a:
Desktop (custom build windows gaming PC)
13" Macbook Pro 2010
iPad 2 16GB

I still use all of them quite often, generally 2 if not all 3 at the same time. I use my desktop wholly for gaming, it has no other software/applications on it. I use my laptop for photo editing, video encoding, typing papers, watching movies, school assignments. And I use my iPad for internet browsing, taking notes in class, reading books(both for pleasure and textbooks), and little games.

If I ever stop play video games I would probably replace both the desktop and Macbook with a 15" Macbook pro. Although I upgraded my current MBP to an 80GB SSD+500GB HDD and 8GB ram it runs like lightening aside from the video encoding. I recently upgraded from a Nikon D40 to a Sony NEX-3 and the jump in picture and video size definitely creates a noticeable time increase for converting/encoding.

I don't think for my personal needs an iPad would ever replace a laptop or desktop. Although for my parents who mostly use their laptops to browse the internet and watch videos it may work. If only the iPad could airplay a video to an apple TV while allowing you to do something else on the iPad display such as browse the internet or open up another app. (it can do this in a way but only with certain apps)

For real multitasking and hardcore gaming I stick with my 27" iMac. For lounging around I use my iPad. For streaming videos to my home tv I use my iPad via the digital av connector. For travel I bring my iPad.

My laptop has been eating dust for awhile now. I guess I can use it as an htpc but the iPad interface and instant-on is so much easier to deal with.
