So who's crazy enough to spend that kind of money on an iPad? Just saw them in the store this morning. I personally would buy a computer insted at that kind of money.

That's not for the wifi version. That's for the cellular version.

In Japan the wifi version sells for 67,000 yen. That's about 720 US dollars depending on the exchange rate on any given day. A bit cheaper in Japan than the US at the moment.

Hmm.

What's the first question an Apple fan asks you when you show them which iDevice you have?

They ask, "Why is Essenar so concerned with what people think?" 😀

Besides small-talk about how I like it 've been asked about favorite apps or content, but never the capacity of my devices.

Personally I would never pay that much for an ipad and that's because I don't need to pay that much.

However if my ipad was my goto device for video watching/ photos/ music and I had a crap ton of it and 64gig wasn't nearly enough then I could justify it, maybe.

If I needed 128 Gb I would have gotten it I guess, here in Sweden iPads are a bit more expensive though, paid $1009 for my 32 Gb with Wifi+Cellular.

Just finished a 14 hour trip from NYC to Hawaii and will do it again soon. My 64GB iPad served me well, but can only hold so much and a 128GB would have meant I didn't need to make as many choices as to which movies to load.

My iPad is almost 100% entertainment for me and it performs that function much better than a MBA could. If I had work to do while travelling though, the air would have been a great compromise.

The comparisons to a MacBook Air at $1000 to an ipad at $930 are not apples to apples. The cost of a 64 gb wifi iPad is $700. The cost of a 64 gb wifi MacBook Air is $1000. You pay $100 more to go up to 128gb (wifi) on either model. So a $300 price difference between the products at the same storage, which is as it's always been at the 64 gb level. This is just the first time the iPad was even comparable at more than the air's base storage.

People who don't want a laptop, primarily use a desktop, but need alot of storage on the go. Done.

Someone who doesn't need or want a computer, but needs space for files, music or other media. i.e. porn 😀
WOAH
I agree. At around that price, a MBA seems much more tempting to me!
Me too, who wouldn't go for an MBA?! 😕
The problem solves itself once the 16GB gets dumped and they become $100 less expensive across the range.
Definitely, with Apple's current pricing strategy they are.. quite frankly, taking the piss. Flash memory is nowhere near $100, for 16GB eaxtra in your iPad.
Dude you aint never lied...Louis Vutton, Gucci, Prada. Mad Crazy $$$$

Nooooo they better not I already have an ipad let alone 800-900 bucks for another one just to get the big gigs..
He's saying ditch the 16GB, then lower all the models above by $100. That means that the 32GB will be the same price as the 16GB is now. understand a brudda before whipping out the extraneous charactes ^.^

Fanboy: "How manay gijabites iz yor ipod?!?!?!?!"
Me: DOES IT EFFIN MATTER YOU FOOL? GO. JUST LEAVE. GO ON, SHOO.

The point is, Apple fans are vain about the amount of storage they have on their device and Apple knows this. That's why Apple locks down devices and charges $100 per double storage. It's a marketing mechanism.

$100 only gets you 16GB more storage than the 16GB iPad.

But $100 gets you 32GB more storage than the 32GB iPad.

On the other hand, another $100 gets you 64GB more than the 64GB iPad.

How does that make sense? Why not charge $500 for a 32GB and just omit the 16GB? iOS is starting to show how 'fat' it can be. The answer is simple. Because Apple fans will pay so they can respond to my answer of "It's the 32 gig..." with a smug "Well I've got the 128 gig version... Just got it last week..."

As silly as it sounds you do make a very strong point.

Until data prices come down to more reasonable rates, it's cheaper over the life of the device to buy a 128gb ipad.

How much do you put on your iPad? lol

No it's not 'cheaper' over the life of the device. Anyone that is in the market segment to buy an iPad 4 128GB for $800 is in, what technology sales people like to call, the trend setters.

This type of person will not be happy using an iPad 4, when the new iPad 5 with thin bezel and stereo speakers is released.

This type of person will not be happy with the iPhone 5, with its drum boring 4" Retina screen, when the iPhone 5S came out with the faster dual core A7 processor and 4.3" screen or whatever.

The truth is, when I upgrade from an iPad 4 to an iPad 5, I will lose a LOT less money on it than an iPad 4 128GB user. Let's assume a discount of 10% if you sell it at least 3 weeks prior to the iPad 5 release. I will have only lost about $90 if I sell it for $450 which is EASILY doable. You lose $144 if you sell it at the same discount rate. And most people aren't in the market to buy previous generation products of the highest capacity. 16GB and 32GB iPad's always lead in numbers sold on Ebay.

Yeah, so they are showing very clearly that they are ripping you off more on the lower end, and it becomes more justifiable as you go up.
I honestly feel (and I know there are good arguments against this) that apple should really just make the iPad in 64 + 128GB models, because to be honest, the flash memory does not cost them anywhere near how much it is being made out to cost. At this point, with the money apple has, they should now stop focusing on making super amounts of money, and start focusing more on ultra mass advertising, snapping up every billboard and tv spot that they can, as samsung has been doing. Apple at this point, should really just be looking at how to get the market back, as they are losing it.
</rant> (sorry lol)

The smugness level of the fanboys when they can tell you they have a 128GB iPad is off the scale, along with when they then tell you they also have a 64GB iPad, when I turn around and tell them I have a 15,000GB (15TB) NAS Raid array, they respond with a very blank and confused "what is that?" Ohh not much, only something I can stream to my 3G 16GB iPad, so I effectively have 15TB of data at my fingers wherever I go. 🙄

Previously the 64GB was the top tier most expensive device, so your fabricated user would have gravitated to that. Since there are plenty of people using 64Gb 2s and 3s your logic is flawed.

Considering the 128Gb just came out, there is no way you could have encountered enough "fanboys" to deduce their smugness level. Based on this thread alone, the users with the highest smugness level are the ones who can't figure out a use for 128GB.

I have never come across anyone with a 128GB iPad yet, however it applies the same as when they can say they have a 64GB iPhone.

If you haven't encountered anoyone who has one then how can you say, "The smugness level of the fanboys when they can tell you they have a 128GB iPad is off the scale"?

Considering I would buy a 64gb ipad either way. Considering that using just 500mb of data is $35 a month, that's less than three months worth of data to hold my full music collection with me. Even at $10 a month, over two years it's cheaper to get the 128gb than the 32gb ipad. It's simple math.

How can you tell from afar whether someone has a 128GB or a 16GB? They all look alike on the outside, unless the owner happened to tell others.

I bet Apple would sell more 128Gb models if they put some bling on it. That way all the owners could walk around proudly displaying their $1k iPads so that the mere mortals would know.

Can anybody ever have enough memory or storage space? I can understand why many people would buy the 128GB model.
