I'd never consider any ipad above the base.

If there was an 8GB for 100 less I think I'd bite. My tablet needs are different
I think the base should be bumped to 32GB and dropped 100 bucks, THEN they would sell waaay more!

Can anybody ever have enough memory or storage space? I can understand why many people would buy the 128GB model.

I suppose it's good for people who are traveling a lot, or are abroad often, therefore they have no cloud access.

The 128GB iPad is direct competition for the Microsoft Surface Pro 128GB. Apparently a lot of businesses use iPads for their work and having more and more space has become necessary. I understand entirely, I myself have the 16GB and it's more room than I need. I save precious few files on the iPad itself but many more on various Clouds, which I always have access to from Wifi or Hotspot via my phone.
It is pricy but you get what you pay for, a 128GB SSD can be about 100$ and some businesses pay regardless of price.

My wife is hijacking my iPad 4 64GB, should I buy the new 128GB now or wait for iPad Mini retina? Is it coming shortly?

I'd place a big bet that the iPad 5 does up the standard capacities to 32/64/128 - doubt that a 256 would come out at that point ...

So who's crazy enough to spend that kind of money on an iPad? Just saw them in the store this morning. I personally would buy a computer insted at that kind of money.

Me. Laptops are pretty much worthless to me. I live on the ipad. A laptop has no use to me.

I'm definitely tempted to upgrade my 16GB iPad 4 to whatever 128GB model is available in the near future (maybe hold out for the 5).

I do a lot of flying so can't rely on streaming...and data is so expensive here it's completely out of the question anyway.

At $100 more to double my storage... its something I'm considering strongly, actually. I work in the entertainment field... constantly toting around loads of music and wishing I had storage for more... I just don't want to spring the cash and then an iPad 5 drops a few weeks later.

Considering I would buy a 64gb ipad either way. Considering that using just 500mb of data is $35 a month, that's less than three months worth of data to hold my full music collection with me. Even at $10 a month, over two years it's cheaper to get the 128gb than the 32gb ipad. It's simple math.

This! Which I type on my 64g...which sucks because I am forced to pick and choose what of my 80g of music goes on it (along with apps, photos, guitar amp models, etc). For those that can't figure it out, some of us have uses for maximum capacity...oh, and have jobs and can afford to buy what we need. I have yet to have any iPad or iPhone user jump up and down screaming what their device has, storage capacity wise, or for any reason for that matter. And while I won't upgrade to iPad 4 from 3, if iPad mini retina has 128g storage, I'm there!

I already have an iMac and don't need the power of a Macbook or the physical keyboard of one either so, I definitely want a 128GB iPad.

Also, if they can cut down the weight of an iPad down 20% in the next redesign, then we're talking about a device that could be roughly just half the weight of an 11" Macbook Air, Apple's lightest Mac, which I personally find a big deal in terms of portability.

There are other perks to consider with an iPad, such as a retina display, rear facing camera, and much longer battery times. The latter in particular is something that I find extremely important on a portable device.

And really, the top end 128GB iPad is still a good $200 cheaper, or 20% less expensive, than the entry level Macbook Air.

That price is ridiculous.

It only costs about 100 bucks for 128gb of flash storage, if anything it should be 600 but apple does like to rape consumers on prices...

I too just picked up one of the 128gb VZ models. I use my iPad for LITERALLY everything other than development. Music, Movies, Games you name it, I use my iPad for. The apps are even robust enough that I do a lot of design / planning work with my iPad. This update with my ultimate configuration macbook pro retina 15, I have all the computing power I need for anything.

I bought my 64GB 4th gen before the 128 was announced. I upgraded from a 1st gen 32GB model, and I now use it even more. I am not so sure I would have opted for a 128. You also can't turn a MBA sideways. (Well you can, but y'all get my point. )

Rape is a horrid crime where actions are taking place against someone's will or consent. If you willfully purchase a 128GB model, you are not being raped, you consented to the transaction. Obviously you didn't purchase a 128GB iPad, therefore Apple raped no one. Very poor choice of words.

If the mini gets retina, I don't think I'd buy it. Now if it gets 128gb AND a faster processor AND at least 1gb ram, I will definitely buy one.

I agree with this. I think some will pay more right now to have the higher capacity, then at some point soon we will see the standard config go to 32/64/128.

What would really make the 128 capacity nice is for family users if iOS had multiuser capability like Android does now.

If iOS becomes multiuser, then I would probably jump on an iPad 128.

Price & capacity are the very reason some vain Apple fans will buy them. Bragging rights and the "look at me" factor is as important to them as it was to Steve. When out in public, the Narcissistic characteristics
of many Apple owners is highly visible.

It should come in a special colour to differentiate it between lower status models.

This iPad is around the same price as an 64GB iPhone if you ignore the "subsidisation" illusion that lead many to believe the actual cost is around $200 or so.

I refuse to buy an iPhone because I consider $900 + far too much for a glorified iPod touch. On the other hand, the $900 I spent for an iPad 2 18 months ago money well spent considering how much use this thing has gotten.

It's not an illusion. The phone costs $200. My phone plan costs he same whether I get the phone at a subsidized price or full price. Therefore I choose getting it for $200.

At the end of the day, those that have the money and desire to buy the 128GB will do so. If you don't need the capacity and don't want to pay, then don't. I have a Mac Mini with the 1TB, the Time Capsule with an additional 2TB of storage, and the iPad with 128 GB. It's a personal choice, I have the money and I bought it. Nice toys cost big bucks. It's not for everyone. Not seeing where the arguments of value are coming in. It's the value you place on having the extra storage and for you to decide it's true value.
