The Bezel reference is to one of their patents on the capacitive frame, if they have incorporated it in this generation.

Pitty about the front cam if it fails to make it this year... Jobsy walked on stage with one [with camera hole]... if he doesn't ship with cam then he's jipped us! Booooo!!!!

They are in the factory building them now anyway...

Rear facing camera?
Why? The thing would be way too big and clumsy to be a good camera
I would use my iPhone for that, or another camera

Front facing camera?
Maybe. For skype, video conferencing, etc.
But certainly not necessary or even desirable to me (I know I am not everybody)
But I know I would rarely use it, if ever

This is exactly how I feel. Of course, this is all a bit pointless to me since I have zero intention of ever buying an iPad.

I don't understand... Camera Accessory?

Accessories
There are lots of great accessories specifically designed for iPad. The Keyboard Dock, for instance, combines a dock with a full-size keyboard. There’s also a standalone Dock. And because iPad has built-in Bluetooth wireless technology, it works with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, too. The Camera Connection Kit lets you import photos from a camera or SD card. The iPad Case not only protects your iPad, it also allows you to use it in various positions, making it easier to type, look at photos, or watch movies. And through a range of accessories, iPad can play your content on TVs, projectors, and displays. Learn more about iPad accessories in Tech Specs

I really want to buy an iPad, but when you read and see stuff like this it really makes me feel like I'm being taken. I mean come on Apple obviously the thing is suppose to have a camera... why screw over the early adopters that badly.

Maybe instead of just putting the generic isight cam, add a hd cam like 720p version and use a next gen version of the A4 chip which will be able to handle the power of the cam...maybe....Since the a4 chip is still brand new and isight cam maybe more power intensive.

Between my wife and I, we're wanting TWO of these babies, but I really think we're just going to buy just one. Probably go for the 3G/64GB version.

Then see what happens for the second one on Version #2.

I'm no developer, but shouldn't "hasFlash" be a Boolean? Why is it an unsigned int??

No one has been screwed over because it hasn't been released yet.

Hearing things like this makes me want to sit back and wait for the second revision, regardless of how much I would like to purchase an iPad.

There will ALWAYS be something to wait for...

I will plan on buying a modest version initially and then "upgrade" by either selling the first gen or giving it to my wife if she doesn't have her own by then.

Each person just has to justify when they wish to adopt a device versus the time without the product as there will always be something better around the corner in the world of technology.

will people really use it?

I see everyone rattled up about the ipad not having a camera. Seriously, will people use it? You could argue "I'll use it for travel". Fine, I'll give you that one, but I myself don't travel without my family, and if I did, why would I want to see them??? I also don't see people get out a 10 inch tablet to take a picture, if you take out your damn iphone you may not look so retarded. If the ipad were to have a camera, I'd probably use it for the same thing I use my isight camera on my mac, to make sure I don't have snot in my nose before I talk to a girl :p

:eek:ewwwww lol

I will not every by this device until it has video chat.

I want it very badly. I love video chatting with my friends from high school that are in different colleges across the U.S.

Apple was SO close to having my favorite gadget ever.

wasn't there a patent for just this, last year?

What if the camera is incorporated into the pixel structure like in their patent? Kinda like in the Thomas Crown Affair. "it was there all along".

I seem to vaguely recall an Apple patent of a camera hidden in the display. Actually I just googled it, and wasn't crazy... Google "apple patent camera behind screen" and you see the results...

Here is the schematic... sorta puts the "magic" back in the iPad...

Hey folks, the iPad had a camera for pics, video conferencing and iChat and as Steve was getting intimate with his iPad BY CHATTING, c'mon folks, then.... then...

Steve saw his wirey nose hairs and that was the end of the iPad camera and iChat and video conferencing... :D

This may make me forgo the first gen models in lieu of a second gen model that has the camera.

You do that! While I enjoy playing call of duty zombies on the bigger screen or Plants vs. Zombies or Street Fighter IV. Plus, I can utilizing the new calender to do my plans. Furthermore, I can browse the net at Starbucks while everyone stares at what I am doing.

Go ahead and wait for the camera. Anyways, I am planning to renew every year!!

Plus, I can always use an extra! They can also make good gifts later.

You forgot while E-Baying your original close to market prices to recoup your expense as you renew every year! :)

You obviously don't have a job that requires travel 4 days a week. I use Skype almost every night to see my wife and daughter. Video chat would be the iPad's killer feature for me, but apparently I'm not Apple's intended market.

I was thinking exactly this and thanks for posting. Beat me to it. This makes ever more sense for such a device. I wouldn't be surprised if it was included.

Update: here's the old Apple Insider post: http://www.appleinsider.com/article...lcd_display_that_also_takes_photos_video.html

I could see using this also for "white board" real-time conferencing via a VoIP type application (not sure if there are any for the iPhone today...). That'd be a killer feature for me (I have a love-hate relationship with flow charts....).

The combination of the A4 with PowerVR SGX SoC might mean this is patent is finally for commercialization. By some indications, the iPad was in development prior to the iPhone (i.e. consider the iPhone a scaled down version of the iPad instead of the other way around); it's just that the technology wasn't there to bring it to fruition.
