As much as the iPad appeals to me...

At first I thought I'd order one right away, but one of the most obvious uses for me is video chatting. I know I'll want the 2G as soon as it shows up, because it'll have the camera. I can't believe they left it out of the first generation. For once, I think I'm going to wait.

I've said this before... Apple dropped the cameras because of some sort of software conflict. It will be in the second generation's which is aimed at the end of the year or early next.

My source is in Apple R&D.

No one should buy the 2nd gen iPad that has a camera, either, because Apple will just screw us over again 3rd gen version with even more features! Those jerks!

Shhhh! You're not supposed to notice their evil plan!;)No product should ever be changed, that way nobody's feelings get hurt.

I really enjoyed my 1st and 2nd gen iPhones while you waited.
I thank both of you (E.Lizardo and Xtremehkr).

AAPL shareholders such as myself count on a wide variety of potential customers to help drive up Apple revenue. Both of your contributions have been duly noted.

I'm also an AT&T shareholder, so I'm seeing some upside to increase iPhone subscribers. While that doesn't translate into massive stock price increases, at least AT&T yields a ~6% annual dividend.

Again, thank you both!

I'm gonna go ahead and call this ahead of time, but also let everyone know that i'm surprised and disappointed that no one else said this.

These are leaked features for the NEW IPHONE.

I think its pretty obvious that the new iPhone is going to need a killer feature to break away from all the compeition and thats going to be a front facing camera that is skype ready.

.

While you're not necessarily wrong, the big "accept" and "decline" buttons that are shown in the article are too big for an iPhone.

I was thinking it. :p I do think you're correct.

No need.I'm a shareholder too.

please 2nd gen people...give me a break.

you "i'm gonna wait for the 2nd gen" folks crack me up, you should know by no that the 2nd gen is gonna have as much stuff missing that the the first gen has missing. by the time the 2nd gen comes out the tech world around us will have progressed further as well and apple again will give you a great product with minimalistic features so you can wait til the 3rd gen and fourth gen etc. by the time the 2nd gen comes out all other tablets on the markets will be able to cure depression and make you an omlet in the morning however apple is gonna hold out on that feature for the 3rd gen just for you folks.

Yes. That's the identification for "I don't have ________, so I'm never getting laid again." As if they ever got laid.

My guess is that 98% of MacRumor participants have never had sex.

The iPad threads are train wrecks. The threads about Apple notebooks aren't as bad. They're like watching car wrecks.

I bought my first iMac in 2001, I made a wee investment when the iPod first came out.

Camera

I'm buying this, camera or no camera, but a front facing camera for Skype would be fantastic. A great company always throws in a pleasant surprise.
:):apple::)

Let me put some peoples' worries here at rest. :p

Yes kids you can get your porn on the iphone and the ipad, just not via apple.

Actually there a quite a few porn sites optimized for the iphone. No flash content. I will post some links later on.:apple:

NO camera - No buy!

No Camera - No Buy!

Add cameras to iPod Touch and iPad, and then I am buying it.

i guess if they've been waiting 30 or 40 years to get laid, waiting a whole year for a stupid ipad camera wouldn't seem that long.

i plan to enjoy my camera-less ipad during that year (and get laid).

said before: have 2 laptops with camera that i never use. who cares about a camera?

I've always wanted a camera on my laptop, imagining all the cool stuff I'd do. Then I got a MacBook Pro, and so far, I've never used my iSight.

I wonder if they are more people out there who've had the same experience.

This is typical Apple.

Basic design, despite all the technology out there.

The initial price will be high to help pay for all the R&D in case it all turns to custard.

Rev B: add a feature or 2 that people want (ie. the features that people SCREAMED out for when Rev A was announced).

That said, I will buy the iPad, but only when it has these essential face-palm features lacking from the initial release.

Is no one thinking about this?

It could be a work in progress ...

My goodness, some of you have so much venom and spite. It's entirely possible that the shipping rev.1 could still have a camera. And, speaking as someone who was at Jobs' introduction of the iPad and taking note of the reaction of bloggers there, here are three reasons why I think it's possible we'll see a camera in the first shipping model:

#1 Theoretically this SDK opens the floodgates to far too much public awareness that could possibly cannibalize sales until a future revision. That said, how many of the general public become aware of SDK features? Not many, but enough Apple/tech bloggers to write about (see, um, this site) and get people talking iPad again. Clever.

#2 While we all know Apple add features with each revision—as most companies do—it's also very un-Apple to allow future features to be public knowledge without a tactical reason. Smart.

And lastly, #3 The competition. Apple had to announce the iPad early, for developer reasons, and while they didn't want to overwhelm developers all at once, neither did they want to give the competition any time to catch up. By announcing new features so close to shipping time it means all the other companies hoping to be within spitting distance of an iPad clone, once again they fall far behind. Genius.

If in the next fortnight they announce pre-orders for the iPad, great, some people will write about that. If they announce even more features, hammering more nails in the competition, then that will be a PR show.

External!!!!

Since the 1st Gen doesn't have a built-in option maybe someone will create an external one that uses the dock connector. Who knows if that's even possible. I don't really need a webcam. I have one on my Mac Pro and I rarely use it, but for those that do this would be a great option.

I dont care about a camera. I am still getting the iPad 3G. I would never have used the camera anyways so why wait when I can get one in April?

There is always bigger and better every year with technology.
