</p>A brief new report from DigiTimes estimates Apple's current iPad shipments at 1.2 million per month, up from 700,000 at launch and set to increase to as much as 2.5 million per month by the end of the year. If true, the data confirms very strong sales performance for Apple's tablet device that could see the company exceeding even the most robust analyst estimates.

As iPad production continues to ramp up, Apple has apparently tapped Samsung for additional display production for the device. Samsung, which will join existing supplier LG, is set to begin volume production next month with output scheduled to reach 300,000-500,000 per month. That number compares to LG, which reportedly produced about 800,000-900,000 displays during the month of May.

That's all well and good, but I'm personally waiting for the iPad to come out with 512MB RAM before I buy one. The iPad as it is now is crippled!

I'm not saying that having more memory isn't good but, have you already used an iPad? Would you still think the same if you didn't know how much memory it has?

Edit: I just realized how "fanboy-like" my comment seems to be. I'm just asking these questions because I've used one before (I don't have one) and I was actually pretty impressed by its speed and overall performance. What it does, it does really well.

Samsung are not producing IPS displays, are they?

If that's true, some iPad screens are going to be IPS, and some PVA... Screen lottery ;)

How so? I haven't run into RAM issues using mine. More RAM is always better, but my iPad is in no way sluggish. The only RAM related issue is reloading "tabbed" pages. when switching between them.

Yes, I have already played with an iPad for a couple of days.

You won't be able to use any of the new apps coming out, like say Apple's iMovie for iPhone, which makes more sense on an iPad than an iPhone, ie when Apple puts 512MB and a camera on the iPad. The iPad 1G is planned obsolescence.

Eh that all depends I guess. I didn't buy it with the intention of using iMovie because, well, that product didn't exist when I ordered mine. For my purposes, my current iPad serves me just fine. My laptop is collecting dust because browsing around the house is a better experience on the iPad, and thats one reason I got one.

Memory supply is also constrained... Perhaps that is the reason why Apple chose to equip the ipad with only 256MB of RAM? Think about it... If both the ipad and iphone were equipped with 512MB of RAM supply would be constrained not only by display production but memory as well. I see it as a fair trade off to keep up with demand. An ipad with 512MB of RAM would be nice, but then again so would an iphone with 64Gb of solid state storage. Apple obviously could not do both at the current price points so they chose a compromise. Even with this compromise both the iphone and ipad are struggling to keep up with demand at the current price points.

Fear not the next iphone will sport a 64GB option and the next iPad will be equipped with 512Mb of RAM, a faster processor, camera, and perhaps an even better screen.

And this is from a First Gen. iPad, can't even imagine the sales when the second Gen. comes out with video conf. and all the iphone like goodies. :D

Can you send me the link where it is stated that I won't be able to use ANY new apps that come out for the iPad?

Be actually nice if next Gen. iPad goes even higher than 512, could lead to even more complicated games. Now the question is has the ipad had any impact on the laptop business.

I was hoping it will sell well. If enough people get it, then I eventually won't be afraid to take mine out in public. :)

Tony

hope that Apple's doing the same thing with their iPhone 4 production (currently said to be about 2million/month)

Samsung have IPS manufacturing capabilities so the screens will probably be nearly identical.
As for the RAM issue. My iPad is far from sluggish and without recording capabilities there's little point in video editing software.
My only complaint would be the lack of a front facing camera for 'face time'. However there are some 3rd party developers making USB cameras that would do the job providing apple allow them to put supporting apps on the app store.
Since I picked up my iPad I've hardly used my laptop, it's surprising how much of what I do on the MBP the iPad will do.

This maybe a news flash for some, but there will be a new iPad every year. You can either wait until next year, or get a year of enjoyment using the iPad.

Easy Google:

This does not mean one modified for the ipad will not come out, just that the one coming out for the iphone is just for that platform it seems.

I am sure Apple will have one for the ipad either at the same time or right after, they know this will be an issue with lots of people, but again it would have to be heavily modify to follow ipad standards.

Then explain to me how 512mb of RAM is going to make the iPad better than it already is? In the iPads current state you wouldnt even see the difference.

I have an iPad and love it but would love it more if my Safari pages didn't reset after like 30 seconds of my leaving the app.
