My green poly is doing this. I'm not completely happy with the feel of holding the opened smart cover. I tend to switch between hands holding the iPad and the smart cover keeps on drooping. Thankfully it's easy to remove and reattach.

Even when holding the iPad 2 I tend to roll up the cover in the back in its triangle config... and hold that in my hand the same way you might hold a magazine with the pages rolled back as a grip....

not sure I described that right, but try it.. in stand mode, but holding it.

Are you serious? It's magical to you... Like many others have said at best it's a fashion accessory and a pos at its worst. I find it to be completely crapicial.

many have voiced their opinion without actually using it. have you?

I like mine. A lot. Its a novel design that gives the iPad a whole new feel, much more magazine like for reading.

Didn't really read through to see if someone already pointed this out (apologies)... But in regards to the "cover doest stick to the back" chatter - what I've found is that when I have the iPad open I fold the back cover in half to the left. It accomplishes 3 things: 1. It sticks to itself. 2. I can hold the iPad comfortably (without the cover flapping off) in my left hand as I browse with my right. 3. The back camera is ready to go.

I'd honestly be surprised if this wasn't intentionally designed to work this way knowing Apple. It's really just seems to make the most sense.

I think apple needs to get on the ball and answer those who want to cover the back of the iPad as well. I love my smart cover but they should now introduce something that will work in sync with the smart cover to cover the back. That seems like a pretty big flaw of this is that there is no protection for the back, which is so nice and smooth it is slippery, which could be a problem, ie dropping.

Used the Smart Cover in my first meeting today with theatre style seating. Worked great in landscape mode with the Smart Cover in triangle mode. Note I used the Zeroshock carry case on my lap which gave it a flat surface on my lap. I got it a year ago for my iPad1 and it works great with the iPad2.

I've got a skin coming to protect the backside of the iPad2.

You can use it as a fridge magnet too. Amazing! :p

smart cover....half-naked

Just got my 32 GB White Ipad and the blue smart cover...I love its magnetic strip and the ability for it to become a stand etc BUT am the the only one that feels like it's half-naked? The back feels really slick and makes me nervous that I might slip up and drop it. And I wish it was a tad thicker too...I guess I will have to buy a skin for the back now. I bet in another month someone will come up with a similar "smart" design but one that also protects the back. Am debating whether or not to return it and wait...

JealousGuy86- I didnt see your post (I thought I read thru them all)...you and are in complete agreement. Are you keeping yours?

I'm not sure I follow. So you are only half folding back the smart cover and it sticks to the back of the device? Can someone Confirm this please? (as it kinda goes against what everyone else has said)

Pictures would be nice to see :D

Have you seen this from Speck? Basicly its a smart cover which protects the back. http://www.speckproducts.com/tablet-ipad-cases/ipad-2-cases/pixelskin-hd-wrap-ipad-case-black.html

No, he is saying that you fold the cover in half. The magnets stick to the steel plate so it sticks together. You can then hold it with your left hand and the right half of the back is exposed meaning you can use the camera, and since the flap is held by your left hand then it does not flop around.

I've found that this is the best way to hold it with the cover on. Most of the time though when I am holding it upright I just detach the cover so it weighs that much less.

This isn't an iPad1 case that is hard to get on and off. If I'm sitting in bed and I don't want it to swing, I either fold it in half or pull it off. It literally can be taken off or put on in 1 second.

@v66jack

Speck case looks sorta cool, but instead of the magnets to wake it up, it uses suction cups.

Getting closer to what everyone says they want, but not really there yet.

Gizmodo had a link last night.
