clearly if it's getting 'red hot' it's a health hazard to you or small children around, bring the damn thing back to apple and have them look at it so the rest of us can be made aware of any flawed manufacturing processes etc...jeezes quite whining about it and go do something to fix it...'use as iron' 'red hot' either you lot are taking the p1ss or it's not a problem as yee all seem to be making a joke about it....get on to apple ffs and get it fixed....

Definately not risking returning and getting another one with screen problems until I can determine what "normal" is.. If all the ones at the apple store are as hot as mine then it's likely it's the norm for this line of iPads.

Yup mine gets red hot after about an hour on the left side.
It gets hot regardless of what i'm doing, even sitting on the home screen with screen brightness at 100% after an hour will get the left side red hot.
I think the heat is a function of screen brightness and not so much CPU usage.

Aluminum turns red hot at around 1,000 degrees F. Hyperbole, much?

I can't understand how people can use these things at 100% brightness. During the day, my iPad is set at around 20% and at night I've got it down to 0%. Maybe my eyes are just really sensitive, but I've tried it at 100% and it hurts.

I don't know how anyone can use it at less than 80% brightness. It's not even viewable unless you're in a dark room! If it has that setting then you should be able to use it comfortably at that setting. Period.

I read an Onion article about a rash of people treated for 1st-degree burns because of the new iPad?

I usually set my brightness lower but with this incredible retina display I've been setting at 100% and mine gets very warm, a lot warmer then my 2 but not so hot I think it would burn me.

OP is massively over exaggerating the situation. At around 50% brightness the bottom left side gets ever so slightly warmer. Similar to what I experience with my iPhone 4, but at the middle right side, rather than bottom left

Mine gets crazy hot when surfing on LTE. Very uncomfortable. Hope there's some way to improve this.

I saw on the local news a little boy suffered 2nd-degree iPad burns? Apple's lawyers released a statement: You're holding it wrong.

Bring one of these

make sure to record it in Excel (very important) :)

Will do! Have it all ready! That's mine, at 115F along the left.

Seriously......... 100% would burn out my retinas. :p

Retina screen alright, yikes. Keep mine around 60%. Turn it all the way down when reading in bed. I've felt it get slightly warm playing a game for an hour or so. The ipod touch 4th gen gets relatively hot on the back so doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I think you are exaggerating a little. But, this is not a Apple problem as you are the one choosing to run your backlighting at 100%.

I love to drive fast but am smart enough to know if I keep the throttle at 100% there will be consequences for doing so.

I ran my iPad 1 @ 100% today while I was outside watching a flick, still couldn't see it due to sun. Mine has never gotten warm
