That IS a joke, right? If not, which operating system will it have? Windows 7 with its bloatware effect and lack of touch compatibility? or that 'hugely successful' mobile OS?

You do realise that the OS is the key to tablet success? iOS was designed for iPad initially. Market forces persuaded Apple to release the iPhone first. So what we have is a mobile phone with a tablet OS.

Microsoft have been locked into the idea that the 'Slate' has to be a fully functioning PC, when all the evidence is that it does not.

So now Ms are in the curious situation where they have an embarrassment of operating systems [in more ways than one], ie: two, but neither was designed for a tablet or slate.

As Grady Seasons said [to Tom Cruise's Vincent] It's like a nightmare, isn't it? It just keeps getting worse and worse.

I think he was just being sarcastic. So yes, he was joking.

Yeah, the first chart asks business buyers which brand they would consider in Q1 2011. Although the question asks for a single response, I'm sure some are going to consider more than one brand.

Again, despite HP Slate sales with only 9,000 available (maybe they even sold them all), the poll is for "considering to buy", and then only for 1400+ IT business buyers. A choice for considering to buy 10 iPads counts as much as a choice for considering to buy 8000 Dells.

It's just a simple survey, as was the customer satisfaction findings. If you try to take this and turn it into a global or US "units sold", or even a global or US "considering to buy" then that's just being naive. Even more so when you then whine that the figures just don't add up.

I think someone else was complaining that the 3% of iPad users not covered in the satisafaction survey and we are assuming that are unsatisfied was too low a figure and within the margin of error.
What ? Did they even go to college ?
I didn't read that the survey was trying to project their findings onto any larger scale, like say, all iPad owners - which is when you would introduce margins of error. Their sample size would be way too small to produce meaningful results, or rather their margin of error would be up at something obscene like 15%.
But I'm starting to wander, being unsatidfied with the product was not the question they were asked.

Thanks, I was really sick last night, so I couldn't study the post with as much detail as I normally do, but makes sense.

iPad "adoption" in corporate environment

I think its interesting how quickly iPads have been showing up on television shows (legal dramas, crime shows). Its really a "no-brainer" to show iPads being used in law offices, and, its not a stretch to see it being used on CSI/NCIS type shows, or, even "Chuck". Wait till you see judges on shows like American Idol or Dancing with the Stars. I haven't been able to get out to see current release movies but I'm sure that iPads are going to show up as de facto props/product placement in mainstream movies. Personally, as a corporate mobile worker (think HAL and offset on letter each), I think I could do most of my daily "chores" with an iPad connected to our VPN and Lotus Notes/Domino servers along with a decent keyboard and mouse, probably Apple BT ones. Every once in a while I might have to present a MS Powerpoint deck so that might be problematic. If that were the case, I could probably do 100% of my job using a MB Air.

Minor correction:

iOS was not designed for the iPad first, and the iPad didn't exist before the iPhone. That's a fanboy myth totally made up from a typically vague Jobs comment.

All Jobs said was that he got the inspiration for an all-touch based phone from using an internal UI demo done on a touch tablet project. (Most likely it was running regular OSX.)

This pre-phone demo certainly wasn't done on iOS, as we know for a fact that iOS wasn't even begun until after the iPhone project started (and was almost going to be based on Linux, if some at Apple had had their way).

"RIM has problems with battery playbook '

LONDON - Research In Motion (RIM), maker of BlackBerry, is struggling with issues surrounding the development of the tablet computer playbook. The launch may be delayed.

All Things Digital reports that based on statements by Shaw Wu, an analyst at Kaufman Bros.

Several sources have indicated that in Wu RIM has succeeded as yet the battery life of the tablet to be extended. Now the device on a battery only last a few hours. The Galaxy Tab Samsung works about six hours on one battery and the Apple iPad even ten hours.

"What I understand is that this is the reason that RIM launch the playbook has been postponed until May 2011, " said Wu.

System

He attributes the problem mainly to the QNX operating system that sits on Blackberrys. "QNX is not designed for mobile environments and on the tablet. It was originally designed for devices where battery life allows for fewer restrictions. Example by using a car charger. "

Given the latest developments Wu expects that in 2011 approximately 700,000 copies of the playbook will be sold. That's a lot less than earlier expectations of 1 to 8,000,000 copies sold by other analysts.
