Apparently Steve Jobs doesn't like to draw. or write quick notes in meetings. or write quick messages on top of documents. This is where the iPad could really take off for students and business.

sketching with my finger is ok I guess.

I'd have more control with pen input.

+1. Pen =more control in terms of writing

I'm going to try this..... Why?

Because my daughter keeps stealing my pogo.

Because while my pogo works, the body of the pen part is too small. I want "heft" and not to feel like I'm writing with a golf pencil.

The crappy thing is, i think i'm out of new sponges and will have to go to the store. Hmph.

Guess i will go hunt for a pen to use and have my exacto knife at the ready!!

Interesting mod. Works fine for me with finger though.

He never said that. In fact, the iPhone requires a stylus and is useless without one, unlike other phones with cursor pads etc.

FAIL FUDster never used an iPhone before.

Please go back to the 90s.

I dig it, am lazy and have a hole in my pocket that money likes to fall out of...

....on my way to Best Buy

:D

I just found some on google.... I tried to buy my sponges and the stupid debit machine was down.

I have some rockin' ultra firm foam that isn't working but it would rock for a stylus tip! LOL!

Lol. If you're considering buying a sponge just to make this, you may be better off purchasing one professionally made by a company. I found sponge laying around so cut it up and went on making it :)
I think I may now try to make the rim of the tip hard so I can shape it down to be like a pencil point but I don't know if I will, I'm very happy with it the way it is so I may just leave it.

i like the targus. the tip is not as stiff as i was hoping for and you still need to apply a bit more preasure then optimal, but it works fairly well and better than the pogo sketch for me.

good weight to the pen itself also, very comfortable to hold.

Oh i own a pogo, but the kid keeps stealing it, and, i don't like the tiny barrel it has, its not comfy to write with for me.

And, really, I've needed to buy sponges for awhile just never remember when I'm there. So now, they are in the house, and im going to use a pretty orange cello one :D the part I cut off works well, I wonder if you can draw with that edge?

Off to experiment!

Not sure what orange cello one you're referring to (link?), but just make sure that:
1. It works with the screen
2. It's soft and doesn't have hairs flying all over the place

Once you got those accomplished, you're good to go :)

Do let me know how it turns out (post pics!).

Good luck

So the piece of sponge that i cut isn't working now that it is totally dry. Will it work in the metal of the pen dry?

The sponges I got were 3m cello something, like the blue part of the scotch bright but in pretty colors :D I bought a scotch bright too - needed it! LOL!

Anyway, I'm not going to get to finish tonight i don't think, I think I'm going to need to dremmal the end of my pen a bit bigger. I'm going to go back digging in my "pen box" and see what else i have handy. I hqve something like i saw in a. You tube video (the fancy pencil), but I haven't seen it in a few years and I'm not sure where my drafting stuff ended up, so it might be a lost cause.

But I will make the hefty pen work!

Oh and I thought it was interesting the guy with the pencil video talked about how you had to have it so big so it would register. I was able to get the very fine edge of the damp from the package sponge to work, but not sure how that translates to the real world.

Back to hunting around!

Well if the entire body of the pen is metal then that is preferable. If you use plastic or anything that blocks conductivity from passing along, you may want to wrap a copper wire or so around the body. Do make sure that the sponge is touching the metal rim of the pen, or the wire, whichever you choose.
Yea, the very edge would work on the screen however it is soft so you cannot really press down even a little bit and gets annoying... you can try to harden the sides by putting superglue and letting it dry but make sure tip remains soft. I prefer the ball because it's fine enough for me... but it depends on what you prefer.
