Earlier this week, research analyst Peter Misek of Canaccord Adams claimed that a "manufacturing bottleneck" at Apple's manufacturing partner Foxconn/Hon Hai Precision would result in constrained supplies (300,000 versus a rumored planned 1,000,000) of the iPad at its launch later this month. The report had also suggested that the shortages could be severe enough to result in a delayed launch, although an Apple spokesperson quickly denied that claim.

DigiTimes today reports that Foxconn's suppliers for the iPad are seeing no changes to their delivery of components for the device and expect that Foxconn will be able to ship 600,000-700,000 units this month and an additional one million units next month.
In response to reports that initial volumes of Apple's iPad in late March will be lower than originally planned and the launch will be only in the US market because production by Foxconn Electronics has been delayed, Foxconn's component suppliers have said their supplies are on schedule and Foxconn should be able to ship 600,000-700,000 iPads in March and one million units in April.
While Foxconn refused to comment on the reports, supplier sources also confirmed that there should be no launch delay for the device.

Wait you mean that analyst was spouting B.S. for personal notoriety and gain? I've never heard of such a thing!!

He should be sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress. I mean some people here were ready to commit hari-kari over the thought of not being able to get one on Day One. :D

Ipad will share the fate of apple TV. An expensive toy with limited capabilities, nothing more than that. I think something between 500 000 to 700 000 will be sold till the end of the year . Mostly to apple fans and "I-buy-every-new-gadget" people.

I'm certain it will be the best selling tablet device for at least the next few years.

I'm willing to wager that it will will do reasonably well. The prices asked aren't outrageous, they'll be easy to use, and ideal for anyone not all that familiar with a computer. I'll likely get one for my 2 1/2 year old son to watch "Thomas" or "Elmo" on while in the car on long trips. They don't cost a lot more than a portable DVD player, have no moving parts, can hang in a holder on the back of my seat rest. He'll love it, and I can use it too.

At the price they are asking they're as much of a "throw away" item as they are a computer. Even the most ardent anti-iPad folks out there, if they are honest about it could find something to use them for that they'd find useful.

The only real shortcoming from my perspective is the lack of tethering options. I already pay for an iPhone - tethering is perfectly OK with my provider, so let me do it Apple!

Perhaps. But it doesn't prove, that people need tablet at all. In my view, oversized smartphones, like HTC HD2 will face better demand

I read comments from people like you and I wonder how you get out of bed in the morning! You can't even write the name of the device properly (iPad) much less evaluate it's success. The iPad is priced at least half what most people even considered ($499 vs $1000). Limited capabilities? Apparently you haven't looked at the same iPad as the rest of the world that is extremely impressed with its capabilities, particularly the speed of the Apple-invented A4 processor. I wish you print out this inane comment a post on your refrigerator to remind yourself when the true numbers and success of the iPad are made known. Your comments remind me of the old saying: It's better to say nothing and appear stupid than open your mouth and prove it.

I am sure, there are not a lot of people , who spend 500$ for a toy for their babies

There will be more like it. It's a hole that needs to be filled. I have laptops, and I have a Windows tablet (notebook that flips around). I've tried Netbooks. What I want is something similar to the iPad. I have a laptop for when I want a laptop, but often, I just want the web, movies, music, ebooks and a few simple games. The laptop is a pain for that. Netbooks just suck with their ultra tiny trackpads. The trackpad on the tablet has the same problem - it's virtually unusable.

Where the iPad falls short, IMO, is that I like having the stylus and OneNote on the tablet. It's great to be able to sit and scribble out notes and drawings. The iPad would be a much bigger draw if it could do this.

Apple never intended the Apple TV to break markets. It was a platform they used to develop the video aspect of the iTunes store. You can't sell or rent movies or TV shows unless you have a box to send them to your TV (Computers don't count).

Have you ever uses an Apple TV? Unlimited storage (If you connect to a media server), better quality than the 1080p provided by most cable companies and OTA HD. Fantastic selection of movies, TV shows and they even have a bit of music.

The only think I don't like about the Apple TV is the audio quality. It may be better than DVD, It can't compete with BD. I understand that pushing the audio quality to uncompressed 7.1 would increase download times to an unacceptable level. It would also be cool if we could save bandwidth by choosing to never download the SD copy of a TV show.

I think you are so wrong! The iPad at onset will sell like crazy! But, the determining factor in the end will be the cost of the content.

If content providers get greedy and I fear there is a real good chance at that, then the cost of content could indeed have a very detrimental affect on iPad popularity. This will take 6 months to a year to see the content costs and the impact that it will have on iPad sales.

However initially the iPad will sell like hot cakes! ;)

I'm pretty sure the iPad and the direction it seems to lead will change the landscape of home computer use in the near term. Most consumers don't need their computers to be capable of doing any more than a few limited things. For the mainstream market, ease of use and simplicity will win over potential use and complexity most of the time.

Buzz?

There are no truths outside the gates of eden... Bob Dylan

I keep on thinking is this talk of shortages in manufacturing is intentional to make the lines at the store longer, to create a rush and most of all, make good press for the product launch.

When the iPhone launched, there were those that waited overnight and a choice few may have made some new friends or even gotten a date out of it. However, there were plenty of iPhone units for sale after the rush was done.

My bet is that this iPad PR is just that, PR, and there will be plenty to go around. I for one have better things to do than hang out in line. There is always an inside track to getting it before the masses do if you are good enough.
