How do you figure that?

The iPad has been greeted with more skepticism than any recent Apple launch (to be kind)...and there's this sudden stream of stories about how the launch "may" not go smoothly.

At least, that's the kind of seeds I would be planting were I Apple.

Is it just me or is there something wrong with people who think of $500 devices are 'throw away' items?

It may not seem right to old-timers but it's a fact of life today.

In a couple of years, your new ipad will be obselete and not worth the price to have it repaired. Time marches on.

English Lesson

Sure, but iPad, iPod, iMac, etc. are not real words. They are stylistic marketing jargon, so proper grammar is really moot.

It seems that you need a refresher on the rules for English. Check out this website: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/592/1/

What makes a word not real? I think Google is a trustworthy enough source for answering this question: "a unit of language that native speakers can identify." I think we can all identify iPad pretty easily. Unless, of course, you clicked on this forum because you didn't understand what iPad meant?

If you follow that link above, you'll see that you capitalize names according to trademarks, including: Coca-Cola, iPod, MacRumors, eBay, iPad, etc.

Sounds more like the iPad has not been as well received as Apple thought, so they are going to make sure it is in short supply so they can generate lines at their stores for those few who do want them.

The iPad is no big innovation like Apple wants everyone to think.

Poor Apple, all that money down the drain for a product that very few really want.

:D
A lot of people have sites they must work with which are flash based.
As the one of my bank, for example.
And there aren't a lot of such sites , who prepares non-flash version today.

At least MY bank has an iPhone app already out... the iPad will just make it more visible.

By the way, ddubbo, why are you trying to 'sound' like James Tobias Kirk?

Your logic seems quite thin, since there's as yet no way we can look at sales numbers. After all, sales are what will tell if the iPad has been well received; anything else is pure conjecture--not even 'educated' conjecture at that, considering Apple's history.

I'm certain it will be the best selling tablet device for at least the next few years.

me too... I'm still undecided on it..

BUT if theres a Jailbreak for it that will allow us to install something like a VLC type application to playback .mkv files.. I will get one.

So true! For younger people who regularly spend $50-$100 on a single night out with their friends, spending $500 on something they will use daily for a couple of years is not a big deal.

Many older people still remember the days when you bought one expensive appliance and used it for 20 years, but that doesn't work with technology.

The big misunderstanding here is that older people treat technology like they treat appliances such as refrigerators, toasters, and ovens in that once they buy one they expect the technology to perform as well in 5 years as it did the day they bought it.

This does not happen in technology as rapid improvements in software require much more powerful hardware, making all technological products such as computers, smart phones, even TV's now a days, outdated if not obsolete no later than 1 or 2 years after purchase.

Ipad will share the fate of apple TV. An expensive toy with limited capabilities, nothing more than that. I think something between 500 000 to 700 000 will be sold till the end of the year . Mostly to apple fans and "I-buy-every-new-gadget" people.

The AppleTV failed to catch on because Apple didn't do anything with it. Sure, they updated the software a few times but nothing to wow anyone. They could have done a lot more with it, but they didn't.

Comparing the iPad to the AppleTV is pretty funny. I am willing to bet you are very very very wrong on this. I don't think its going to sell as well as the iPhone, but I could see it selling a few million a year. I know a lot of just normal people who want to buy one. They aren't your techies or gadget people. They see the awesome potential of the device.

However, what is going to hurt them is the delay on the 3G version.

The "sudden stream" of stories were all the result of one questionable analyst's report. All actual signs point to an entirely normal launch.

Apple never intended the Apple TV to break markets. It was a platform they used to develop the video aspect of the iTunes store. You can't sell or rent movies or TV shows unless you have a box to send them to your TV (Computers don't count).

Have you ever uses an Apple TV? Unlimited storage (If you connect to a media server), better quality than the 1080p provided by most cable companies and OTA HD. Fantastic selection of movies, TV shows and they even have a bit of music.

The only think I don't like about the Apple TV is the audio quality. It may be better than DVD, It can't compete with BD. I understand that pushing the audio quality to uncompressed 7.1 would increase download times to an unacceptable level. It would also be cool if we could save bandwidth by choosing to never download the SD copy of a TV show.

defending the iPad is one thing but defending apple TV is hillarious!!!!

I disagree. apple seem to want to compete with the nintendo ds and sony's psp rather than provide real computers.

the mac book pro range is due a refresh but seems as if this is NOT going to happen whilst apple want to entertain folks who have no need for productivity.

You say this as if the updated MBPs (whenever it happens) aren't just going to get a marginal spec bump that in practice has little effect on what you can do with it. They already have a full lineup of great desktops and laptops that will let you be as productive as you want. Nothing they are going to add any time soon is going to make that much difference in your productivity.

From my perspective, the Apple TV is one of the all time top consumer devices. Could it have a bit more color depth? Yes. Unfortunatly, that would add to download times and storage space. Could it have better audio? Yes. That would also add to storage and bandwidth issues. From my perspective, it is the best device for downloading HD content.

Have you spent any time using one? If so, I would very much like to know what your problem with it is. If you have not used one for any length of time, you can take your opinion and go sniff a cat.

But, but, but.... you just said something nice about Apple. What are you some kind of neo communist, pinko sympathizer of terrorists? You do know this is the United States of Microsoft? TREASON!!!! Just because they make products that some people like, that is no excuse to buy one of them.

Repent and denounce the evil of this fluffy fufu brand.

PS. Google sucks.

If you really think the iPad will do so poorly, I'd say you're in for one hell of a surprise! You're gonna eat crow, my friend :)

DigiTimes today reports that Foxconn's suppliers for the iPad are seeing no changes to their delivery of components for the device and expect that Foxconn will be able to ship 600,000-700,000 units this month and an additional one million units next month.

So by making a false claim the involved parties issued denials confirming the ACTUAL volume Apple intends to ship in the first 2 months for the first time. Hmmm.
