But you "need" to spend more if you don't want to run the risk of getting cuto ff and having no data connection at all, if 3 decide to terminate your contract.

Don't be childish, of course I don't work for 3 and even if I did, do you think getting one anonymous person to increase their tariff by £12 per month would help me in some way?

That's good to know and maybe useful for others in the the same boat, especially after the whole AT&T scenario here where they detected people tethering and throttled/restricted/cut off customers.

I genuinely hope it doesn't change in any way for you and you keep the ability to tether, but for me, spendng £500 + on an iPad and tethering on a tariff that could get me kicked off as it's against the Ts & Cs isn't worth the risk (just my $0.02).

I'd rather pay what I need to pay and be safe in the knowledge that A) I have truly unlimited data and B) I am free to tether without worrying if the next time I try I may have my data connection restricted.

As I said, just my $0.02.

I don't "need" to spend more, if they did ever cut me off then I will just switch to a different network.

My iPhone is unlocked, because I bought it directly from the apple store with no contract.

Easy :)

I'm getting the same problem with my 3 iPhone tethering to iPad 3.

Used to work fine with with other devices, get a feeling I had the same issue with my MacBook after a bit of usage.

That's great, but if you switched networks you'd still end up paying extra for a tethering allowance, as none of them include one.

But I can worry about that if/ when that happens. No point paying the extra now.

I'm not on the one plan and can tether my ipad2. I'm on a £10 a month sim only deal with 2gb data

We know you can tether and that it's technically possible, but 3 don't allow it on any tariff apart from the One Plan.

They can (and have) cut people off for doing it, but I think as long as you don't abuse it they turn a blind eye.

I'm moving from Tesco mobile to 3 this week, sim card ordered and on its way to me, also recently bought the new wifi iPad, so now have a proper need for hotspot tethering.

Just a quick question, as Tesco dont allow tethering on their plans my iPhone 4 doesn't have the hotspot option enabled in the settings. When I eventually pop my new 3 sim in the iphone, will it automatically unlock these options or will I need to install tweaks like tetherMe, itether or mywi from cydia?

Off topic: who would have thought in this day and age where many providers are capping data we'd finally get a mobile carrier in the uk offering 'all you can eat data' and tethering for a reasonable fee to boot. I just hope the service matches the deal:eek:

You've probably got the "Internet Max" add-on that costs £5 a month. That gets you 2gb and allows tethering - but they don't offer it any more.

If they offer you an all you can eat data option for only £3 a month then don't switch because you'll lose the tethering.
