If you have a main machine running and you don't want to convert all, I'm sure here wa an iPhone app that could ship to the iPad that basically used the main majone to stream the video to the iPhone. No need to convert in that case. Though I'd imagine you'd want some stored locally on te iPad in the correct format.

Exactly what I would do. Most of my videos are in rmvb format and it's a pain to keep converting them for my iPhone. After a while I simply give up and watch them on my Macbook Air. Then yesterday I found an app called Air Video which can convert and stream the videos over 3G on the fly, so I bought it immediately. I would think the same approach can be use to enjoy videos on iPad as well.
