I have a WiFi iPad Mini and while it does not have GPS, it is using some sort of location awareness from Wi-Fi even on the move. You might not have position data out in the wilderness, but in the city it at knows down the city block level where I'm at.

So, in the city, I don't think you really a need GPS chip except for specialized apps where you need greater accuracy.

That being said, it would be nice for Apple to plop a GPS chip in there. People use mapping where Wi-Fi location awareness won't work, such as on a road trip where there will be long stretches with no signal.

Don't you miss the GPS feature? Don't you need it sometimes?

I added data plan to my iPad 2, and now find GPS on my iPad invaluable, as well as a much more pleasant/safe experience than it was on my iPhone 4s. I would not consider a future iPad purchase without GPS.
