Ipad wins, other tablets may aswell give up

Don't give us Apple fans a bad name by spouting nonsense. The fact is, iPad sales have flatlined over the past year and Apple is rapidly losing market share.

One more reason to buy ipad : When in inactive state, my ipad drops 1% in 3 days, while my android tablet decides to drop 30% or more depending on its mood.

Agree.

As you said, sales have flatlined but they haven't exactly dropped. Apple is losing market share because the market is so much bigger than before thanks to the proliferation of sub-$200 tablets. Alas, not much profit in that category so it's easy to understand why Apple doesn't want to go there.

What I do have a problem with is that then these people then automatically want to shoot everyone that has an iPad in the head. People need to just let others have there own option and accept that. iPad for me is the greatest tablet. I could never buy one of those Android tablets for many reasons but that is my personal option.

funny that you're posting this in a threat that's titled "ipad wins, other tablets may aswell give up"

even if everything you say in your list is 100% true, the android tablet may still be a better choice for someone like me who only uses this kind of device as a toy. for my work i use macs almost exclusively and wouldn't have it any other way...for playing on the internet or playing angry birds, a cheaper option is perfectly adequate. That being said i still want one:p

As an Android and iPad user, one of the things that the iPad still has over the Android tablets is UI control.

For example, using Safari (or Chrome) to post in MacRumors instead of an app (like Tapatalk). iPad gives you much finer control over the text input box than Android. It is a lot easier for me to place the cursor to edit a word, select a word, edit, etc. on iPad than Android. The UI control on iPad, IMO, is a lot finer. I have fat fingers. Sometimes I want to place the cursor in one specific place, and we all know on iPad you press and hold until the magnifying glass comes up and you can place your cursor. Android has arrow keys. Well, my iPad is freaky guessing where I want to put my cursor. When I tap with my finger, even before I need to hold, it places the cursor right where I need it to edit a word or a punctuation. It happens too often to be coincidence. I think there is some logic or smarts on the cursor placement, making UI control on iPad far superior than Android.

My $0.02.

Ipad has defined the market in the way Ipod has with MP3 players. Staggering to see people are considering other tablets on forums. £100-200 gets you cheap junk where as a quality a good user experience gets you an Ipad which offers much more.

I'm guessing you are 15. How close am I?

It wouldn't be good if the iPad was the only tablet out there and all the others "gave up." Then, Apple would have no initiative to continue to improve.

Upgrade to iOS7 yet? My iPad2 leaks 5-6% overnight.

I got my son a Hisense sero 7 pro a couple weeks ago. While away for a long business trip, he didn't use it. from 100%, it went down to 86% in 6 days. Not too shabby, and a far cry from the total POS ones you see everywhere for < $99. If you are an informed consumer, you can get REALLY quality android tablets < $150.

I am getting an iPad Air as a gaming device (not you types of games, things like Deus Ex, XCOM,Minecraft, Asphalt 8, the walking dead, dead trigger 2, TDKR, Modern Combat 3,4, GTA III and Vice City and upcoming games like GTA San Andreas, Modern Combat 5, Deus Ex part 2...

The 4:3 aspect ratio on the iPads are what win me over. I don't want to read PDFs or web browse in landscape on a 16:9 tablet. I'm not even a fan of 16:9 monitors.

But how old is you iPad 2. A Lithium based battery is supposed to only output 50% of battery usage after 4 years. I'd you overcharge a lot this number gets even worse. I used an iPad 4, and got 27 hours for web browsing, 8 hours gaming. And it slept its charge over night.

iPad 2 is about a year old. It's usually charged overnight, off the cord the rest of the day. I used to get numbers like that in iOS7. I remember taking a 4 hour flight, playing MTG 2013 for 3+ of those hours, and ending at 77%. Now, with iOS7, playing an hour gets me to 80%. I would attribute it to getting "old" but the numbers do not jive with iOS6 before the upgrade.

Yes, everything is turned off that would drain the battery.

In using auto app update date? You really shouldn't put you iPad on all night, that is why your iPad has lost its battery usage.

Agree 10000%

But your wrong about the market share. In a growing market you have to look more at profits and usage than market share.

not upgrading my mini. happy with 6.1.2. i also have a value for money android tab - ainol venus.while i like it and its great for videos, it just cant compare to apple in touch response and accuracy, battery and app experience.

Stock ROM on the ainol venus is panned by everyone. So I am not surprised. My latest Android tablet blows the doors off of my old experimental one, and any other "cheap" android tablet i've ever seen. A year ago, I would agree with all the "android tablets are a POS" but not anymore. Informed consumers can get an amazing product for <$150.

Competition is good. Heck, it got Apple to up the mini to retina. Now if only the prices of the Apple products would come down a bit in response. Yet some folks here(not you), would somehow complain about that.

In fairness to Android, the Ainol Novo7 Venus is an underpowered piece of crap (and yes, I've got a couple of them). The experience is much smoother even on the year old Nexus 7. As you said though, it's pretty great for videos. I've yet to find a video player on iOS that can handle my anime MKV as well as MX Player does. With a microSD card slot, just buy a couple of 64GB microSD cards and you can easily carry complete series with you.

Why would you troll on apple forum than? Samsung or Google forum is right place to say such things. iPad competes alone with hundreds of companies using same ju.k android os. Sure it wouldn't be easy especially with monsters like Samsung, Sony etc. Their tactic is known either copy all Apple ideas or provide something apple don't, flash cards slots, more memory, etc
It is working among people who is watching/listen stollen media content very well ...

ok, again - not really sure that was my point.

They can gain some market share only because of price. That doesn't make the experience with any of the andriod tablets very good and I should know since I have been through plenty of them.

Personally, I rate the latest 7" Android tablets (Huddl, Nexus 7, Fire HDX and so on) as good enough. Not up to the standard of iOS devices (especially since 7) but the average user should be able to find their way around these devices, surf the web, and acquire and use apps. I think these are market changers. In the UK I can well see a situation where more own a tablet than do not, perhaps as early as the other side of this Christmas season.

I think you missed a stereotype or two.

Please try trolling harder.

the iPad can work well if you write custom apps for specific industries but in general the iPad is not a tool to run existing applications.

There are many companies and governments that have standardized on the iPad and are writing apps that support their businesses or agencies and these are outstanding use cases but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the iPads in the field are purchased and owned by end consumers and they do use them primarily as consumption devices, which is what the poster was expressing.

And that is true, but the poster said "one purpose." Even as you describe it it's a different purpose that is not intended for content consumption. There was no "predominate purpose" or other qualifier. Many people, business, schools use iPads in the same way they use to use computers. Where the apps that run on an iPad come from (in house vs App Store) is irrelevant just as it is with traditional computers.

Nope, but nice try. :) The quality definitely isn't there with the Nexus 7. Not sure about Amazon, but I can't imagine them being much better. Android tablets will continue to suck as long as they keep up with the blown up phone apps for tablets.

There are other tabs than the nexus and amazon. Have you seen LG's new G pad? Build quality on par with iPads- aluminium, gorgeous screen, barely there bezels, and a competitive price.

Personally want the water resistant Sony Xperia Tablet Z (495g). :p
