Screen protectors

Had screen protected on my iPad 1. Just scored my iPad 2 was going to put one on but I defiantly think I like the look and feel with nothing on it and iv been on my iPad the last 2 days and I don't see one fingerprint. On my ipad1 fingerprints on it daily with screen protector

my ******* wife dropped our 64GB iPad 1 on the corner of the end table from about 4 feet... if it did not ahve a power and support screen protector on it I would have a paper weight right now

This thing took a hit and left a major blemish on the protector. the screen is still pristine. They are for ACCIDENTS. and I like how my finger glides over the screen as opposed to sticking.

No screen protector on my origins iPad, original Droid, iPad 2 or Droid X. All of those screens (some a year old) are perfect with no marks. I do however treat my electronic devices like I would a very expensive camera. TLC is the answer.

Never used a screen protector. I only got the Apple iPad Case, and it has been protecting the screen from scratches very well, not a single scratch after 8 months of taking it everywhere.
Screen protectors are a pain to install, forming little bubbles or distorting the image. Also, make it more difficult to use the gestures. I don't like that.
The glass on the iPad is very solid, only a piece of metal found on a ring, watch, another piece of glass, or diamond may scratch it. Also sand that gets rub hard against the glass, may sometí es scratch it.
Nails and shouldn't affect the glass.

Just carry a piece of microfiber cloth to clean the display every now and then to get rid of fingerprints.

I have never used a screen protector on my iPad 1 or my iPhone 4
Never felt the need
No problems or issues

The same for me. I had a screen protector on my 3G and hated the feel. So, nothing on the 3GS or 4, and not with my iPad. No problems.

Picked up one of the last refurb Gen 1 16GB from the Apple Store, immediately ordered an Otterbox case and the screen protectors. They showed up within 1 day of each other, and I kept the iPad in the plastic sleeve it ships in until I could join them all up. The screen looks great, a few tiny bubbles but they're actually under where the case wraps around the front bezel, so no worries. I also have two iPod Touch 3Gs and they both have screen protectors as well. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...:D

Well, I thik that it would make some sense to put a screen protector on an iPhone, unless the cover you use protects the screen, specially if you keep the phone in your pocket,

No screen protector on my iPad 1, had it since launch day. Heavy use daily. Been in the apple case for most of the time since I bought it. Also have a 3gs for almost 2 years with no screen protector.

No scratches on the glass of either product.

No screen protector on iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPad 2. Not a scratch on any of them.

What is strong enough to scratch the glass will go right through a cheap, overpriced plastic screen protector.

I'm not using one on my iPad 2. Did on my original for some time, then I looked at how much better and clearer my friends were and I took it off.

I let my kids use I all the time. It is a device I use for work, and it is a device I use for fun. My kids are less likely to damage it at 4 and 7 than I am during the day, so I see no reason to keep them from using one of the many great apps out there. Plus their hands, which sometimes not entirely clear, are less likely to scratch it than things in my bag, etc.

I had no screen protector for the iPad, but I did have the Apple case.
Now I have the smart cover for iPad 2 and no screen protector. Also no kids around. If I had kids, I would definitely have some type of protective case.

Have been rocking the iPhone 3G for well over two years, most of that time without a protector, with no issues. There used to be videos all over youtube of people taking knives and forks and whatnot to the screen and not leaving a mark, I fully plan to test this once I retire mine. For anti-glare maybe, but for protection seems completely unnecessary in my opinion.

I don't have any screen protectors on any of my devices. I've never had any issues, although I try to take really good care of my devices.

Didn't use anything but the Apple case for the first 10 months I had my iPad. Not a scratch or mark at all on the screen and i have not exactly been gentle with the ipad. Threw on a power support anti glare a while back to cut down on the reflections - I don't even notice its there anymore. Of course, I am not sure if I am going to use anything on the iPad 2 I picked up today besides the smart cover. Overall I don't think it's a big deal - just a matter of if the reflectivity bothers you or not.

I put a screen protector on my iPhone 4 from day one. I just think there is too much chance of a scratch with a phone that is constantly going in and out of its case or a pocket.

For my iPad 1, it was in a case that closed over the screen, so no protector needed. Heavy use, not a scratch.

For my iPad 2 with the smart cover, I put a Best Skins Ever skin on the back of the device so I can set it down on tables and whatnot and not get any scratches. Feels great too, improves the grip when holding the device. No screen protector though, the smart cover works great and provides the protection I need.

I would however like it if there were a glare cover I could use that didn't permanently attach to the iPad. I'm not outdoors with it much, but when I am the glare makes its almost impossible to use. Anyone know of a quick snap on and snap off type glare screen?

one spec from the first month i owned it, and one small scratch from my little dog deciding to run across the ipad. i am surprised how well it has held up.

no screen protector on my iphone4, still looks like new, i carry it in my pocket regularly, though i do try to not do so with keys in the same pocket....

maybe i just have more forethought or something but i never considered screen protectors for any idevices... part of the appeal of the idevice is the smooth glass screen with the oil-resistant, rub right off lamination.... covering that up with plastic kills it for me... i have a incipio feather case for the iphone, very minimalistic... i don't plan on a case for the ipad except for the smart cover - for travel i'll put it in a netbook sleeve - but i'm not ghost amoring the back or laminating the front with clear plastic or otherwise "protecting" it.

the best protection is a squaretrade warranty. anything else is merely cosmetic....

There are are few items to consider:
1. The oleophobic coating can scratch much easier than glass, and these scratches are much harder to see but they are real. When you hold the device up to a halogen light at the right angle, they will light up. However you can't really feel them (unlike scratches in the glass).
2. Obviously the iPad doesn't get the same kind of wear and tear compared to an iPhone so it's less likely to get scratched up.

I did not use a screen protector on my iPad1 for almost a year and I had several extremely light scratches in the coating (as well as one very tiny deeper scratch in the glass).

On my iPad2 I developed scratches in the coating within a few days as my wife started playing Fruit Ninja (with her long fingernails). It bugged the hell out of me. I swapped out that iPad for a different issue and now I am using a screen protector. I documented this here:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1124200/

To each his own, but the coating will likely scratch if you use it for a year with no protection.

I used one... for maybe 2 days. I stopped using a case all together at home, it's not as delicate as you first think(that doesn't mean start bashing it around though).

I never have had a screen protector on my Ipad just a TPU case for the back. I do travel with Ipad quite a bit and is alway in a back pack it still looks mint. The iphone though I do have a screen protector on it just because It has the potential of being bounced around.

I have on occasion have had a key or something sharp in my pocket that might have been the cause of a scratch in the screen protector and probably would not have hurt the screen. The scratch in the protector though does not bother me enough to put replace the screen protector.

I have the original iPad and have had every version of the iPhone and have never used a screen protector. I just never saw the need. Especially with the iPad...I have some friends that have them, and I just don't like the look or the feel of them. I have it in an Apple iPad case, so it's closed when I'm not using it. A year later and not a scratch.

As far as my phone, I bring it with me everywhere and it's always kept in my pocket. I'm just careful that nothing else goes in the pocket that the phone is in. I have an aluminum bumper-style case on it. Front and back aren't covered. Again no scratches.

No screen protector on my ipad since day1. I've got the apple cover so, when not in use my screen is always protected, plus i use the clothe to clean all the smudge marks after every use. dont think imma get one either when i upgrade to the 3rd gen :D ....all ipods - screen protector less as well
