So, are you saying that the home button is iconic, yet, you sustain that Apple got rid of it in from the image....why?

I believe that the home button is iconic too, yet the picture says otherwise to me. Beside, I'm just assuming.

They never got rid.

The Ipad can be used at either end button or no button end. The picture gives nothing away.

I'm for the home button and hope the iPad is cheaper or else no iPad 3 for me:((((

----------

This is probobly a failing effort to concele it's an iPad. This is just a teaser I hope :-()

You're going to feel really silly when the iPad 3 event passes by without any word or mention of getting rid of the home button.
:)

I see there always being a button - but not necessarily as we know it today, and not yet.

I think that it will turn into a touch panel and away from a physical push to use button - because mechanics fail and touch rarely does.

It's pretty simple to do in my opinion, but it won't be on the iPad 3, maybe iPhone 5, more likely something in 2013. Unless the apple TV comes with touch buttons....

By the way, the screen is a render placed over the photo, then reflections etc are added to make it more realistic. Its how all phones etc are photographed it. Learnt it after an editor for a Future Publishing came in to lecture my Photography class. Apple will be no different.

Personally, having used a Playbook, a home button isn't needed, as long as its replaced by a gesture not an onscreen button.

Never use gesture on Ipad or notifications and all the other Android waffle. Ipad 1 well IOS4 was better less stuff we don't need and simple to use.

We will see. Some rumours suggest it but with Apple recently making the volume key a camera button don't be too surprised if we see a proper camera button on the next generation Iphone.

Why would you need to add another button when the volume button works perfectly?

Maybe...just maybe...I mean Bear with me here:

Apple just photoshopped out the home button in the invite because they thought it would look more sleek? Or because they thought it would draw away from the invites main focus (the screen, the place, date, and keynote). It's not unheard of more companies to alter the picture in advertising to make it look better.
