The iPadOS 17.4.1 update that Apple released this morning addresses a bug that could prevent certain iPads from being able to scan QR codes.

According to an Apple Support document, a bug in iOS 17.4 impacted the camera on the 6th-generation iPad, 7th-generation iPad, 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, preventing camera apps from being able to scan QR codes. Apple says that customers affected by this issue should update to iPadOS 17.4.1 to fix the problem.

Prior to iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple was suggesting that iPad users unable to scan QR codes with the Camera app and other third-party apps use the Code Scanner function in the Control Center.

Apple's release notes did not mention the bug fix, perhaps due to the limited number of iPad models that are impacted. iPadOS 17.4.1 also added other unspecified bug fixes and security improvements.

It would be neat to have an actual QR scanning bug…. Maybe they can ask the bugs to tell other bugs to stay away from iOS, MacOS etc

Nothing attracts pests more than an Apple with a single bite out of it.

Glad for this. This bug caused me grief for 5000 plus of my devices in my schools. The app Clever uses QR code student badges for them to login.

Hope it fixes the FaceTime bug I recently discovered on my 15 Pro Max. My audio cuts out when on speakerphone.

In the lead up to public releases, are there not beta testing that contains these bugs?

If you're managing 5000 devices. are you not testing releases on one device first? Seems more like a user error to me.

So funny, I happened to try to open a QR with iPad for the first and probably last time ever yesterday, nothing...gave up.

I know, right? This article screams of "we need eyeballs!". Why was an entire article dedicated this one bug? Inexcusable for Apple to release an update that breaks a previously-working feature, but how many people were actually affected by this? All 3 of them say Thanks.

Yes, of course. Issue never showed up till the final release was pushed by the MDM.

Hopefully they fix the iPhone 14 Pro not being able to focus on QR Codes via Code Scanner

What about the bug when you open a private window in safari without any other private windows/tabs open in safari and there’s no search/address bar to type in until you open a second private tab/window in safari?

There’s too many ex windows hipster donkeys working at Apple these days, and it shows.

This article reminded me that my iPad has a camera.

Hmm...it's all A10 Fusion and A10X Fusion based iPads that are affected.
