can you? AFAIK Macbook airs start at £999. My iPad Air was £650. Already had a keyboard and trackpad.
Of course. MacRumors is regularly posting about $599 MacBook Air sales. Apple also working on getting to this price point.

Slide over and two apps side by side needs to come back to full screen mode. The overlapping windows are stupid on the iPad mini. It just doesn’t work.

You don't have to overlap windows.
True, but it's much less user friendly than the old mechanic was and on the tiny screen of the mini it really doesn't work. Coupled with lining up some windows as some apps don't resize well.

And it removes the corner swipe function for notes and screenshots which I used a lot when you turn off fullscreen mode because the window re-sizing overrides it.

If I wanted a MacBook I'd buy one.

what if you tried stage manager? in one view you could have both windows in ‘splitview’ and slideover and just section it out across different views.

However it's better in portrait.

I agree that Apple should have kept it as an option, because the final version of SS was very nice. Have you sent that feedback to Apple?

Yes, I have sent the feedback. I see no reason to have removed split view and slide over from full screen mode.

I don’t think we get these kinds of deals outside the US…

If you read the whole post, Apple is about to come out with a $599 MacBook. And the current gen MacBook Air is now $200 off, starting at $799. The concept of Macs only being accessible to the ultra wealthy is laughable.
The current gen Macbook Air starts at £999 here in the UK which in today's money is 1,300 USD. It is on sale via Amazon though at £879 ($1,144). As you say the cheaper Macbook is coming out, but outside of the US, they're still not exactly cheap. Given that the average consumer likes a tablet for 'consuming content', it would be very expensive to buy a Macbook at £879 as well as an iPad. If someone didn't mind not having a tablet, I'd say just get a Macbook, but given the hold that tablets have on the market, most people go for them and for a lot of people there's a massive amount of duplication then between their macbook and their iPad. My point is that I agree with you that Macs are not just for the ultra wealthy and this might be becoming even less true, but right now the average consumer outside of the US cannot afford (or is overspending) on the Macbook+iPad combo.
