updated to iPadOS 26.1 RC because battery was awful.
Now it's completely unusable. Kernel panics taking out WiFi under low load.
Email app (now removed) used 26% battery overnight doing .... ?!?
Whomever at Apple greenlighted this piece of trash should be fired.

Nearly-new iPad Pro M4.

1)kernal panics? you mean respring, like it goes black and a white buffer icon appears then goes to the lockscreen.

2)Did you fully close the the app? like use the red X on the traffic light icon. if it still carried on, Im surprised.

3) I’m unsure, the RC has been stable for me on my ipad A16.

A16 ≠ M4.
Might I remind you, this is the "iPadOS is an absolute mess" thread, not the "iPadOS is great" thread.

... I mean - screen goes white, WiFi completely drops, comes back to either lock screen or the home screen.
Home screen icons scattered/empty.

I've closed everything dude. And hard-restarted twice.

Your third response is like:
"I'm unsure, my mother isn't sick, so it must be your fault."

It’s like using Windows Vista, except unlike Vista, iPadOS 26 has no useful features.

My ios 26.0.1 complaints are:

1) Face ID taking 3 secs or more or even failling.

2) Google page on safari is misaligned to the right.

3) Some landscape bugs on the youtube app.

M4 here with a clean ipad os installation.

Hoping ipad os 26.1 will be better...

2: the entire safari interface gets misaligned to the right regularly. Noticeable on the tab bars too. Tapping the hamburger button on the left temporarily fixes it.

It’s unfortunate that the Mac vs PC era of advertising is over. Because Apple truly deserves to be publicly ridiculed over iPadOS 26. Just as they did to Microsoft with Windows Vista.
Just because they removed splitview…

Just because they removed splitview…

See what i was saying in my previous post though? Having to defend opinions and facts? Like how they also removed slideover and uppended the user experience for no reason given? Do we really have to write about this over and over?

People are also entitled to dislike glass ui.. Aren’t they? TOS says nothing about liking changes. What about bugs and system stability.. I know you know lots of people have posted about issues. You had just replied to a guy having issues with his ipad.

Are we just not supposed to press apple publicly? Why demand that? Do you see any journalist or blogger asking them questions about such issues? I’ve seen none and i would like some answers.

crazy how 1 sentence lightly poking fun at the fact that not having split view is the end of world in this OS update turns into a 3 paragraph response on why I’m being insensitive to people who are having issues with ipadOS26. This is such an overblown response that there isn’t much ‘answering’ to be done.

Anyways, moving on…

all right yeah, so instead of aknowledging the issue..
Ignoring that i’m obviously referring to my previous answer which you asked for too

it’s just that talking about this has felt over and over like we have to defend every sentence we write over nothing.

I am acting crazy and overblown for trying to read about more people talking freely about their issues. Thanks, i’m adding this to the list of “attacks instead of discussions”.

I talked about answers from apple though, not MrBiggest. I’d love to hear their plan or timetable for fixing the issues and if they plan to reinstate gestures and full functionality of slideover.

As someone who tends to write big chunks of text, in my opinion this isn’t an overblown, but rather elaborate response.

OH WAIT - my brand new 17 Pro Max just had a kernel panic.
Black screen - spinning - went back to lock screen.

Apple really f-ed this one up.

It's a bloody darn shame that journalism has stopped as it has.
There are no major mac sites that are writing actual articles anymore, they are only regurgitating the same "news" stories that you can find anywhere.
I cannot think we are alone in our complaints and yet there are no major articles about the complaints and the various journalists are thus not asking Apple for comments about this new update.

In both the iPhone and iPad forums the discussions are now 30 pages+ (and a few loose threads along side) and though it appears much better, the Mac OS update is not uniquely loved either.

I think it would be worth a few questions to the head man at Apple.

Exactly!

Though if some people really can’t handle facts or are behaving weirdly about anything they feel is an insult to their favorite company.. I think i wouldn’t want to be the journalist pressing into such issues. It seems everything is toxically polarizing these days.

I must admit I had a play on an iPad in the store over the weekend and I got lost using the UI, all the windows had flown to the sides revealing the app icons in the middle, what mode is that exactly? And if I swipe up does that close the window? What's a minimised window? If I close a window does it still exist in recently used apps? I just got very confused with what was going on.

It seems clear to me there should be two distinct modes, lets call them 'Tablet mode' which runs all apps full screen just like an iPhone, with all the previous touch first multitasking features. And 'Laptop mode', which you can set to activate when a keyboard and mouse is connected, and operates exactly like a Mac, this should also have a desktop to place the windows on.

At the moment we've got the tablet mode with all the multitasking stripped out, and if I want to multitask I have to go for the not particularly touch friendly window mode, the strange windowed mode without a desktop, and then you've got stage manager on top. It's hella confusing.

I’m going to paraphrase here. How the system work

traffic light:

red X icon- fully closes the app, if its in windowed it will reopen in windowed, in fullscreen, the window will reopen in fullscreen.

yellow icon- minimize function, hides the app, keeps app in suspension but never closes it, it will also rember its last known position if in windowed mode.

green icon- fullscreen or esc. that simple.

press and hold on no particular traffic light icon will bring up the window tiling

use no particular corner of the window to resize or use the handle bar in the bottom left or right corner.

if you have multiple windows open:

one swipe will reveal homepage, open another app from you homescreen or dock

double swipe will remove all windows into suspended view.

My 13 mini’s chip and related circuitry has been overwhelmed by iOS 26’s immensely burdensome background tasks, alone. Starting up from ”off”, and after “sign in”, it takes approximately 30-45 seconds for my groupings of apps & bookmarks to populate, after which I dee them repopulate in real time (not instantaneously) when revisiting another screen full of groups. Moving a new entry/icon on any screen to an existing group illustrates how the A 18 chip is struggling. Spent hours on phone w/Apple Sr. Advisor, sending system files. etc., to discover it’s a known issue at Apple. None of the updates subsequent to release of iOS26.0 have fixed the issue for the currently supported but older iPhones. We need to obtain a “mass support” by other owners dedicated to the little “minis” to obtain a solution from Apple.
