I just don't want to use my 8 Plus a 3rd straight year regardless of the nice, wide aspect ratio.
I used iPhone 4 briefly before, until I get iPhone 6 Plus, then 6s plus, then current iPhone XS Max. I used to love big phones because of larger screen and naturally can see more contents. Now I think I can see people preferring using smaller iPhone and buy iPad for some media consumption.

To the rest of your post, all I can hope is Apple addressing this issue in next generation iPhone or two. PWM sucks.

Omg. This is happening to me too with my X. I went back to my 7 Plus until I get some time to go pick up the 11.

Working in manufacturing where I wear gloves, Face ID is a godsend! I don’t think I could go back to Touch ID without feeling very held back. All the reasons people give for not liking the new phones (notch, Face ID) are complete non issues unless you have even worse ocd than I do.

The 11 is the middle sized phone in the lineup, but if you have to call it either big or small, I'd say it feels closer to small than it does big. My wife has small hands and said it felt way better in her hands than my "huge" 8+. I wish it were a bit bigger, but my gripes are minor considering how much it does right, and the fact I have zero other options if I want an a13 LCD iphone.

In your post, you have mentioned one thing I do. I use my iPad for media consumption in the evening in most cases. My 11 handles the rest of the time quite well.

Had an iPhone X and had terrible PWM headaches. Switched to an iPhone 8+ and felt instantly better. Now I got the iPhone 11 and I'm on the fence. Might be imagining it but I think the 8+ was easier on the eyes.

The 8 Plus has sharper text given the higher PPI and I would argue bolder text as well. It tends to render text larger as well. It is quite an adjustment coming from the aspect ratio of the 8+ which has usable screen that while not as tall as the 11, is noticeably wider. Some feel this is what is causing them some strain on the 11. I have yet in the forums to see this mentioned by someone coming from a non-plus. That said, I went into accessibility and switched on Large Text. I then adjusted until the text in my messages app on the 11 mirrored the text size on my 8 Plus. Then I went into Settings / Safari and switched page zoom from 100% to 115%. This made my experience better. It is a tough call. I am going to get the 11, again, today but have no idea if I will end up back on my 8 Plus in 14 days or not.

I'll try the iPhone 11 for another few days and then decide. Not sure if it's all in my head at this point.

There is no pwm on the 11, so it’s possibly in your head or maybe it’s just like getting new glasses where there is a small adjustment sometimes.

I am glad I do not suffer from this problem, and I feel sorry for those that do, but I do have a gripe:
If you are going to use an acronym, please let the reader know what it means. I used to write specifications for military design jobs and no one uses acronyms more than the military, but we were required to define the acronym in the beginning of the spec so everyone knew what it meant. I had no idea what PWM meant, had to go search for the meaning, which is "Pulse-Width Modulation". Hope Apple solves this problem.

A bit of a negative update: I used my wife's 11 pro for 5 minutes today, and my 11 the rest of the day. I have a raging headache. I don't know if it's just from the 5 minutes on her pro, or if it's my 11 starting to bug me. I have already purchased 2 brand new 8+. Both are traded in (one after my xs max and one the other day on this 11) I am unwilling to buy a third 8+. I have an Android phone that works perfectly for my eyes, so if this is the beginning of the end for my 11 I am out. I'll get my $800 refund and wait it out. The only issue is I don't know how this works, as I traded my 8+ in to apple. Will that affect my refund? I'll update this tomorrow or Sunday.

I have purchased 2 of the iPhone 8 Plus phones.
Holding onto the 2nd one!
I hope your problem resolves.
Sorry this is happening.

I have to say my iPhone X causes headaches - a thread still going from nearly 2 yrs ago - still have X but only use it occasionally, backup, and when I need Apple ID or something only Apple offers due to eyesight and headaches.

I don't have an issue with Galaxy S10+ even though it has PWM Hz rate of 236-240. If I were shopping for a new iPhone 11 would be it. Bug I really like the size and weight are S10+ seems odd to perfect. An ounce lighter helps.

I did read on front page that the 11 is doing well and likely not the last LCD screen.

Same with me. I've never had an issue with Android OLED phones, all the way back to the Galaxy s4. My only issues have been with OLED iPhones.

I’m still analyzing if this phone is giving me headaches. One thing that still bugs me is the physical size of it. My work android phone is a 6.2” phone, compared to this 6.1” iPhone. The android is much bigger thanks the to bottom bezel. It also is wider, so it feels way closer to my 8+.

Been using the iPhone 11 for a few days now. While it doesn't cause PWN headaches, it does make my eye feel dry and tired. Really annoying.

My X is dying :-( has a bulge - I think a case I put on was too tight/smallish and now the front screen is coming off. This thread helped me decide time to order the 11 only that won't ship for at least a week they are so popular!

It reminds me of my Mate 9 which was also a wide phone, and also about 194 gm, 20gm heavier than the X.

Now the wait begins!

Most likely the lower resolution screen and PPI.

The iPhone XR/11 screen is essentially an iPhone 8 screen but blown up. Sure the 326 PPI is fine on a smaller phone like the iPhone 8/7/6, but it really isn't on a larger one.

If it is bulging from the battery, Apple would potentially replace it.

I’ve used my 11 for about 2 hours today. I have a minor lingering headache. Unsure if it’s from yesterday or it’s this phone. I am wondering if it’s something my eyes can work through. My work phone is a 720p screen, so it’s definitely not my eyes struggling with the lower 828p resolution. Crazy

I use a 6.2” 720p Android phone with zero issues whatsoever. Not to speak for everyone, but I am very certain the pain from the Xr/11 is not due to the resolution. It’s too bad that no one can nail it down for certain.

This is what I’m getting also. A very light headache and strange feeling in my eyes after using the iPhone 11. Weird

I’ve used my phone for about 3 hours today. Still a minor lingering headache, but I’m hopeful I’ll wake up tomorrow with no symptoms. The more I use it, the more I am getting over my 8+. The 8+ felt better in hand, but everywhere else I prefer the 11. My workplace is a deadzone where I never have more than 1 bar, but the battery life is still solid! I’m hopeful tomorrow is back to 8+ level of comfort and I can hope Apple implements dc dimming or something in the future so we can all pick up the 6.7” oled iPhone.

Out of curiosity, have you tried setting display zoom to zoomed? It’ll make the iPhone 11 display the same amount as the iPhone 11 Pro. The standard zoom displays equivalent to the 11 Pro Max.
