Apple tried to buy Qualcomm modems last year for Verizon phones, so IMHO that a taciturn admission on Apple's part that the Intel modems were inferior for that purpose. I don't see why Qualcomm modems couldn't have been put in 11 Pro Verizon phones, even with a short window for implementation to make a stronger phone.

I have no illusions about Intel's modems suddenly becoming fabulous because they are being brought in house to Apple. I wish Apple would go back to Qualcomm modems and stick to developing chips, not new modems

There's nothing specific to Verizon about Qualcomm anymore. No one cares about CDMA performance, as the network is shutting down in a little over a year. It's all about LTE, and all four carriers would benefit from a Qualcomm LTE modem.

It's hard to say if Apple/Intel can catch up with Qualcomm in terms of performance. It's also hard to tell if Qualcomm's advantages in performance were because of their superior R&D, or because of their shady anti-competitive practices, or some combination thereof.

I’d much rather a reliable connection from a Qualcomm then any speed enhancement by an Intel modem! My XR regularly quickly switches between WiFi and cellular and back again..
not just more reliable, current qcom chip are much faster than the 11 pro. these saying its faster than qcomm are quick to forget they are comparing to a 2.5 year old radio chip.
