I sort of agree with you. People love using the "It'll raise the price of the products..."but the same people keep buying new phones like it's chewing gum. I say bring the jobs to the US, and hike the prices and be done with it.

But we know people, in the end, only want their Apple products, as cheap as they can get them. No matter the 'cost'.

Yes, sure...
So let's say they move the production of iPhone to the USA, it start to costs 3-4.000$ (I show you numbers that clearly show salaries etc. are 7x in USA than India, so just doubling the prices doesn't make sense). Then as one of you says, people only buy a phone every 5 years...so the company collapses, tens of thousands of employees of highly paid American employees lose their job, and hundreds of thousands connects too (American companies that provides components and materials, American people that ship the iPhones throughout the country, shops that sells iPhone and their clerks and so on and so on), and obviously all this people stop paying their taxes and file for unemployment, how does USA gains from this?

And let's not forget the more obvious thing: only 1/5 or less of previously sold iPhones get sold now, so a lot of this "American factory workers" aren't needed and get fired :D And in one simply stupid step you took a very successful business venture that directly and indirectly give or contributes to give work to millions of American people, and you destroyed to give jobs to what, now that only a fractions of them are needed anyway? 40.000 factory workers?

Think things through and then if they make sense, only then speak your mind...

Having iPhone 11 assembled in India would also mean it is staying in the lineup this year. Which should shoot down those ridiculous rumours of iPhone 12 having a 4G only version to replace iPhone 11.
The iPhone XR is still in the lineup this year, bumped down to 2nd fiddle to the iPhone 11. I would expect the iPhone 11 to move down and replace the XR, and have a new iPhone 12 "of some sort" replace the iPhone 11 slot in the lineup.

Yes it’s made in India by a chinese company pff
I know!

Like my friends in the US who drive BMW and Mercedes cars made in US by German companies! They think they’re driving ‘made in America’ machines and that lots of jobs and benefits go to Americans!

And don’t get me started about the difference between a “chinese company” and a Taiwanese company!

Great to see Apple get stuff out of China, so they won't be under all those crazy demands from China or being
held hostage when China demands for them to do it their way....no doubt Apple is thinking this as well...

Will consumers be given the choice of buying an iPhone which is made in india? It would be nice not to contribute to the PRC’s economy, given how awful the government is.

How does a company "collapse". Who said to double the cost. Who said people only upgrade every 5 years?

You have no point if you must throw words in people's mouth. Please have a valid argument before you speak your mind.

India last month delayed components Apple imported. India is perhaps not the most reliable place to diversify supply chain. Plus, isn't initiative like "made in India" the sort of thing US whines about and retaliates against? Perhaps India is not competitive enough for US to bother for now. If India remains not competitive in the future, it probably is indeed a good place to have cheap labor for manufacturing for companies like Apple without much retaliation from the US. Given the current economic growth and political environment in India, it probably will remain so in the foreseeable future.

Good point! I think it is not only higher price that lead to lower sales volume. Other phone companies having lower cost of manufacture will have a competitive advantage. They can deliver comparable products at much lower cost. This, over time, diminishes Apple's ability to compete, particularly in developing countries and emerging markets.

When haven't they been called "handsets"? Any mobile or landline that goes in your hand, is a handset lol.

Speak for yourself. I use my iPhone exclusively with my feet, so it's technically a Feetset.

Or is that a Footset? I dunno. I just use my feet.

Makes the phone stinky after a while, especially when I've been in boots all day.

Seriously, though. It's good that Apple is making iPhones someplace other than China. For no other reason than to have a larger trained workforce to draw from in different places.

I KNOW some people say Foxconn is a PRC company and all that. If it gets to the point where you can't make phones in China anymore, it isn't going to matter. They'll either sell the plant, or it will be nationalized. Someone will take a hit (investors, governments) but Apple won't. They will have an established production facility and the supply chain to feed it in place. You'll have experienced workers who can train new workers to scale production.

It's a smart move...

That was quick, is this the first iphone to be made out of China?

You’re kidding right? The Republic or China is Taiwan’s “official” name. Not to be confused with the communist PEOPLE’S Republic of China, which is the focus of all of the political back and forth with the US.

Foxconn is a Taiwanese company, not Chinese.

You really cant blame him for not differentiating The Republic of China and Peoples's Republic of China

The importance of supply chain diversification has never been made more clear than in the last few months.

Don't confuse Korea as North Korea either? Remember this in the past few years?
But yes tax iphones made in China. Apple can still make it in China just to sell to the Chinese population.
For the rest of the world make it outside of China.

This is great news India has a lot of technological knowledge and knowhow. Just this morning John Smith from Microsoft headquarters in Mumbai helped me fix my hacked firewall over TeamViewer for only $US299 in google play gift cards.

They've been trying to get me new AT&T/DirecTV boxes for the last few days. I've actually had almost a half hour conversation with them twice. It's funny because although they speak English (some better then others) they don't really get the "jokes" when you prank them. They fell for my account number being 8675309 and my address as 666 Brothel Ave. both times. Finally when I told them I know they are a scam because I've never had DirecTV in my life after playing them for awhile they both yelled at me for wasting their time. 😂

I like the optimistic "give it (APPLE ) the option to potentially reduce prices." not a hope in hell, apple is more likely to increase the price, MARK MY WORDS

I believe the only manufacturing plant Apple has in India is in Bangalore if I recall correctly. [Unless they have more than one plant, that’s where this phone would be manufactured.]

I think this is the plant that was bought from Nokia located at Chennai

The Bangalore plant (Wistron) used to make the older iPhones - SE, 6S, 7, the Chennai plant (Foxconn) makes the latest iPhones - XR and newer. This latest news update is for the Chennai plant.

the us does not recognise Taiwan as an independent country. Taiwan is not officially an independent country. These aren’t my political views just representation of fact. Those of you that disagree should really put your political aspersions aside and be factually correct. That’s the only way you can truly understand and support your views. Foxconn officially recognised by 95% of the world as a Chinese company.

Oh man, China. They're so bad, just look at how oppressive it is. People forced into low income labour and an ongoing ethnic cleansing of indigenous muslims. Anyway, were moving to India. If you ignore the ethnic cleansing of indigenous muslims and the caste system that forces people into low income labour, it's clearly a far better moral choice.
