iPhone 11 Pro iPhone 11 Pro is not a beast without 6GB of ram!

For a phone called Pro it should have 6GB, future proofing is always a good thing. Don't forget what happened with the iPhone 6.

Future proofing is a great idea, that's why I'd like to wait for 5G capability. I've got a feeling that that will prove to be more of a necessity in the long run than 6GB (unless you need those to make 5G work better).

Of course right now I can't afford to upgrade to a pro, so this is all theoretical for me.

4gb ram across the board

Shouldn’t matter as 4gb of ram is enough. Haven’t had any stuttering on iOS 13 on iPad Pro 12.9” with 3 apps open at once

You can run down 4GB of ram on the iPad pros. And performance issues will occur with microstuddering and low FPS when editing 4K.

6GB of ram is useable for sure.

So you can tell the difference between 4gb and 6gb? Wanna bet?

So you can tell the difference in performance between 4gb and 6gb?

Yes. If you can’t then your not really working it. Not necessarily a performance difference, but there’s no loss in performance when your working on something.

I haven’t experienced that personally but I don’t edit 4K videos

So you've bought a 6s, a 7, an 8, an 8 Plus, and an 11 Pro Max in the last three weeks?

Hilarious.
I knew his name was familiar, but couldn’t put my finger on it. He was so happy with his $199 6s plus just a few weeks ago. Could have saved some big money, but I’m happy for anyone who is able to buy what they want. I’m curious how he went about selling these 4 older phones.

So I own a iPad Pro 11” 1TB with 6gb of ram. Hard to believe the iPhone 11 Pro has these specs with a cpu not far behind.

Anyone going to use they’re iPhone for some serious editing work? It surely seems more than capable!

I ordered the iPhone 11 Pro Max midnight green. So I’m curious to compare these devices in editing video.

So you purchased the 1TB model specifically to get 6GB of ram? Damn man, that's some hard core ****. What kind of pr0n do you surf on that thing? I mean, what type of work do you do on that thing?

The extra ram in 1tb pro is just there to keep the larger storage performant. It’s likely there is no real world difference between the models (iirc there was a few tests done) so thats a total waste unless you need 1tb. As next to no-one has 6gb, pointless developing towards that target.

Double kicker is that by the time the ipad does get more ram, devs will likely target the extra capabilities toward the new models so the old one with extra ram won’t even benefit then either.

The people who are adamant about 6gb vs 4gb are the same people who will consider any phone without 5G to be obsolete, as soon as apple introduces one. 4gb will be more than enough for the next 2 years (assuming 5G comes in 2021). More is always better, but more ram is usually a good way to future-proof a phone. Very few people will buy this phone and still be using it by the time they could really use that extra 2gb of ram.

Yeah, it’s hard to argue that 6 GB will make the iPhone 11 line future proof considering it does not have 5G. BTW, 5G will very likely come to iPhones in 2020, and that’s what I’m personally waiting for. I’d likely be happy with 4 GB too even in 2020, although 6 GB would be nice.

OTOH, if the 4th generation iPad Pros are still at 4 GB, I’ll be disappointed. I’d be much more likely to use the extra RAM on my iPad Pro than on my iPhone.

BTW, here is Antutu on a 512 GB iPhone 11 Pro Max. Note the 4 GB.

Probably some battery life vs memory trade off. But really, why stop at 6gb. Why not 8GB of ram in our iPhone pros?

Why not 16? Phones should come with more ram than macbook pro really, I mean it is called pro after all!

I’ll use it for photography work. But honestly: people who can afford the 11 Pro Max will likely also have an iPad Pro for the heavy lifting. The Pro needs the specs for the AI processing of images and videos. Except for some very basic stuff, I won’t be doing any image editing on it, because a 6.5” screen is too small for my workflow. I’ll transfer the images over to the 12” iPad Pro for editing on the go

Get what you can afford. They are all plenty powerful enough at this point that the upgrades are becoming marginal.

Also 5G is not what people are hyping it up to be. Most carriers still aren’t even 4G capable and AT&T is unthrottling 4G and labeling 5Ge on iPhone X’s. The main problem with 5G is you have to be within so many feet of the hotspot to get the bandwidth benefit from it. It will never be available in rural or suburb areas unless everyone is willing to put the repeaters on the roof of their house. Aside from that what benefit is the extra bandwidth on a phone? It makes more sense for a tablet that you might be doing work on with large file sizes, but for a phone, nah 5G is to limited for what is being hyped about it.

if it had 6 people would troll and complain endlessly unless it was free.

it’s not a Samsung, it doesn’t need 12GB RAM.

I tether my iPad Pro and MacBook to my iPhone, so of course cellular speed and cellular reliability on my iPhone are of great importance.

Also, iOS 13 / iPadOS 13 is supposed to get automatic personal hotspot and persistent personal hotspot, making automatic tethering more seamless. Unfortunately, that still doesn't work properly in the betas, but I am hopeful they will by say 13.2.

https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-13/features/

Automatic personal hotspot
Automatically connect to your nearby iPhone personal hotspot when there’s no internet connection available.

Persistent personal hotspot
Remain connected to your nearby iPhone personal hotspot even when your device sleeps, so you can receive incoming messages and push notifications.

Family sharing hotspot
Your family’s devices can automatically connect to your nearby iPhone personal hotspot when there’s no internet connection available.

It wouldn't surprise me terribly if the Pro models did have only 4gb RAM. It would be a typical Apple move just as it to only have 64gb base storage with these...eek out one more year at 64gb before upping to 128gb next year.

So then 6gb RAM perhaps to appear with the 2020 iPhones with fledging 5G.

I do think any greater potential RAM benefits to be more noticed in iPadOS than iOS at this stage.

I wouldn't be shocked to see 4 GB RAM in 2020. That would be the third year with 4 GB.

1 GB: 3 generations
2 GB: 3 generations (but with 3 GB models available for 2 of those generations)
3 GB: 1 generation
4 GB: 2 generations so far in the flagships, assuming 2019 is 4 GB

Can you up the RAM to 6GB and get an extra 4-5 hours of battery life?
More RAM requires more battery, but battery life depends upon a combination of various factors, not the least of which include SoC efficiency and battery size. Batteries have apparently been increased in size in these models. I suspect part of the reason is that they are no longer using 3D Touch, which took up space.
