The extra ram in 1tb pro is just there to keep the larger storage performant. It’s likely there is no real world difference between the models (iirc there was a few tests done) so thats a total waste unless you need 1tb. As next to no-one has 6gb, pointless developing towards that target.

Double kicker is that by the time the ipad does get more ram, devs will likely target the extra capabilities toward the new models so the old one with extra ram won’t even benefit then either.

The 6GB is available entirely for the iOS to use. And yes there are also specific applications that allow the 6GB of ram iPads to add more layers.

I’ve beat this horse to death. You can use the 6GB of ram.

The iPad Pro has 3.7GB of available ram. The 1TB model has 5.7gb of available ram.

Nah. I suspect Apple released the 6 GB model in part specifically because they wanted developers to target 6 GB.

Apple releasing a 6 GB model a year ago and talking up iPadOS at WWDC tells the industry that they're serious about making the iPad Pro a true content creator platform, and it provides a head start for the developers to get their applications working with that.

And even if an individual app doesn't use more than say 3.5 GB RAM, having more RAM is better for multitasking.

Apple A12X is a big deal.
The 6 GB A12X iPad Pro is a big deal.
iPadOS 13.1, arriving in 2 weeks, is a big deal.

Hahah. It's pointless to ask low level Apple reps or reps from carriers, because they wouldn't actually be provided this information.

On the flip side, the 6S is still going strong with 2 gb of ram, continuing to support iOS 13.
2 GB RAM is OK, but it's starting to show its age. Well, at least with iPads. I think the new lower end sweet spot is 3 GB, if you are going to buy a new iDevice. However, for an existing device, 2 GB is more than usable, but it ain't what it used to be.

Man that rep instantly turned a rumor in to nothing but the truth. What a joke.

“How much ram is in the iPhone Pro?”

“It has 4GB”

“But I read somewhere it had 6GB”

“Oh, yes it has 6GB then”

I wanted to respond, “Oh thank Goodness!!”

Apple holding back for next year if rumors are true of redesign or big upgrade. On top of that, they only use what they need for performance and power consumption. Apple deliberately makes build decisions down to the cent.

@EugW

Why are the 11 Pros showing such a multi thread performance advantage over the standard iPhone 11? Do you think they’re running at a faster clock speed?

It looks substantial. We won’t know for sure until we get them in hand of course. But still interestingly large gap between them in multithreaded.

There are some iPhone 11 scores that are similar to the 11 Pro scores. eg. Here:

So, for the time being I'm just going to ignore the lower scores. :)

No Snark at all by this comment, but Tim Cook is an absolute genius when it comes to calculating every cent that is synthesized into the iPhone. Even though the iPhone might lack ram compared to the competitors, its performance is unmatched in terms of longevity with continued support, and it functions just as well with the Ram that’s allotted for that specific model.

Nah to what, the reason it has 6gb? That is literally the reason why it has, the larger ssd needs more ram. See consumer ssds and their dram cache. If it only had 4gb of ram, it would perform worse than the other models and might even stutter as the i/o cache depletes.

As to the performance vs 4gb, don’t recall anything noteworthy being produced but perhaps there are tests out there. And developers aren’t going to spend effort targeting one sku for anything, be a waste of resources.

So I own a iPad Pro 11” 1TB with 6gb of ram. Hard to believe the iPhone 11 Pro has these specs with a cpu not far behind.

Anyone going to use they’re iPhone for some serious editing work? It surely seems more than capable!

I ordered the iPhone 11 Pro Max midnight green. So I’m curious to compare these devices in editing video.

There is no way in hell Apple throwing 6gb at it.

Idk why some are bragging about 4gb. Didn't Vodafone and T-Mobile confirmed 6gb? Who would you trust, some beta geekbench LEAK, nothing official, or Vodafone and T-Mobile?

Not sure why that old wives tale keeps getting repeated. There is zero technical reason for a 1 TB SSD to require 6 GB RAM.

Bragging? Huh?

anyway, it’s common for the carriers to list incorrect info pre-release.

Why would it have 6gb ram? Yes there is a reason for larger ssds to have more ram, and they actually do. Clearly apple tested 1tb with 4gb ram and found it had worse performance than the smaller ssds.

Whatever RAM is in the phone doesn’t matter. People who worry about this are so uninformed it blows my mind. It is mostly Apple haters, who love to call out the RAM count being better in a Samsung phones because they love their specs, completely ignoring the fact that Apple phone hardware and software is significantly more integrated and efficient, and bloated RAM isn’t necessary.

Look the 1TB has drastically faster storage already probably due to having parallelism (2) 512gb nand chips soldered on vs just a single 64/256/512. Even if the cache was larger this wouldn’t reflect in faster file transfers while transferring a tiny file that cannot even fill the SSD cache on either the 4GB or 6gb models

I’ve compared a 11” 512gb to a 11” 1TB model side by side loading internal storage to full on each model on the same backup. Then testing ram usage on each one.

You can deplete a 4GB ram iPad Pro and it starts draining memory from system services, and idle applications as it sucks every drop of the 3.7gb to your specific demanding application.

It is a old wives tale.

Whether the iPad Pro 1TB is slammed damn full with 956gb it doesn’t utilize any more memory than if it were fresh and formatted with no storage used at all.

Both devices are missing a certain amount of ram that may be allocated for SSD caching. That 4GB is really only 3.7GB. And that 6GB is really only 5.68GB. So the 1TB still has extra ram set aside for something while still having 1.9gb extra memory. This reserved ram is probably for the GPU though. But I don’t really know.

Regardless you can use the memory.

I swear If the iPhone 11 Pro did actually have 6GB, some idiot would just claim it was all designated to the camera and offered no benefit lol. Then everyone would believe it too. So let’s just buy the non pro lol
