I think you should quit thinking, because nobody but Apple really knows if there will be a new design next year. I expect an 11S in the same X/11 form factor, just as the 6/6S/7/8 were.$400 for something that will be superseded in 12 months by a new design iPhone 5G?
I think this year is probably the easiest to choose the $700 model iPhone.

The iPhone 8 was the 2017 iPhone, in line with the 6/6S/7/8 (4 years).I thought this too but looking at the 6/7/8 and then the X/XS/XR/11/Pro cycle, it looks like they're sticking to a design every 3(ish) years. Seems like a new design is due. We might see the 8 leaving the lineup next year as the last touch id phone, getting replaced with the XR as the budget iPhone.

iPhone X that year was a "one more thing" special for the iPhone 10th Anniversary, Cook called it the future of the iPhone.
Right now, we have a 4-year history of iPhones: 4/4S/5/5S (yes), 6/6S/7/8, and I expect it will be X/XS/11/11S, with 11S having 5G cellular.
Nobody really knows until we get close to September 2020; we could have the 11S, we could have the 11S + 12 (a newly designed Pro), or we could just have the entirely new 12 line.
Point is - people shouldn't assume that next year will be a redesign of new hardware, because nobody knows anything but rumors at this early date.
We had rumors for this year's iPhone 11: completely expecting reverse wireless charging and USB-C, which so many people were sure of up until a couple of days ahead of announcement. *cough*
When I ran the numbers, the price difference was actually $550 more for the pro Max, not $400. The reason is I can’t spend big bucks on a phone to only have 64GB of ram, so it’s an extra $50 to get 128 on the 11. That’s an extra $150 on the Pro Max to get 256GB. That extra $100 is getting you more storage, but for me 256GB is a waste.
The next price jump is AppleCare. $199 on the Pro, $149 on the 11. Out of warranty repairs are even more on the Pro so it seems like Apple Care is a must.
I could in no way justify an additional $550 for the small differences between the 2...
The most accurate Apple analyst in the world with a nearly perfect track record thinks there will be a new form factor. I will go with him.
Everyone keeps harping on about a ‘new form factor’ when all that’s been suggested is that they’ll make the sides of the iPhone flat like the old 4/4S and reduce and maximise the Pro sizes. Hardly revolutionary. What more can they realistically do to the iPhone? Gone are the days of completely different-looking smartphones.
Buy at an Apple store, there's no restocking fee...I dont want to create a whole nother thread but i have a question. Why do i see so many exchange and return threads? Im asking because do people not care about paying restocking fees? I just bought an XS but may do an exchange for the 11 pro, so i went to look at the procedure for Verizon and itll cost me 50 to exchange.
Most people don't need or want 256GB, so then the choice realisticly, for a lot of people, myself included is:
iPhone 11 128GB $749
iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB $1249
That's a $500 difference, which is more realistic, as both 64GB options are too restricted in storage capacity for most people.
