Your opinion isn’t very convincing. I personally do find the iPhone 11 Pro to have much better build quality but I’m still not upgrading from my iPhone X. A speed test even proved that the lack of a much faster processor and the same amount of ram as the previous generation make it a spec bump. Sure, the camera is amazing, frosted glass is cool, and battery life is improved but the real upgrades will blow you away next year.

Everythingapplepro did a test yesterday and X is slow as dog**t compared to Xs and pro.

Upgraded from an xs max to an 11 pro max.

Only real difference for me so far is night mode photos, which are great.

I buy a new iphone every year, since the original, so whether it’s a substantial upgrade or not doesn’t really factor into it for me, though.
I am using my new iPhone 11 Pro Max since Friday, coming from an XS Max. The main differences I see so far are:
  • Display is brighter in sunlight. It does make a difference.
  • Camera is much better in most situations
  • Battery life is very good, but I had no complaints with the XS Max too. Battery life is better on the Pro Max though.
  • The matte finish is nice and it's no fingerprint magnet

Most people are not going to be pushing their phones the way a YouTuber might be. Photos, texts, calls, websites, and YouTube is what most people require from a phone. My iPhone X is extremely speedy at all of this and even better now with iOS 13. FaceID seems to have improved significant with this software update.

I can confirm that all of this is true from spending five minutes at the Apple store. Build quality is also much higher. Still not worth it for me because of the following:
  • Notch still exists
  • No 5G
  • No USB C
  • No “pro motion”
  • Heavier than iPhone X
  • FaceID is faster now on older models thanks to iOS 13
  • iPhone X experience has been improved overall on iOS 13

Battery life is ridiculously good! I haven’t charged my iPhone 11 Pro Max since I received it on launch day. I am at 32% right now.

I do have PUSH turned off, background app refresh and notifications limited to only what I need and what I want.

it was at 90% out of the box, and I started using it around 5:30PM on launch day at 9/20.

I’ve watched about 2-3 movies, surfed the web endlessly, played some of the new Apple Arcade games, and I turn it off at night time. Around 2AM until I wake up everyday around 9AM.

it last FOREVER!!!!!!

Oh I’m at 31% now! And I ran a Geekbench 5 run earlier today.

Same here - although seems battery life is a lot better too. Also love the wide angle lense.

I upgrade every year and the 11 Pro Max feels like an OK upgrade to the XS Max, I’m satisfied with it.

For me the “wow” upgrades through the years were:
3GS to 4
5S to 6 plus
7 plus to X
X to XS Max

Hi

I am amused by the endless speculation regarding next year’s upgrade. Right after last year’s phones, I heard that about what the 2019 phones would be like. I heard the same thing after the release of the 6S, 7,8 etc. Where does this get us, except endless waiting.

If you need or just want a new phone, then pull the trigger. Trying to predict next year is foolhardy. The iPhone is a mature product and differences between one year and the next, in terms of performance, are more likely then not, to be incremental.

I can’t say that build quality has improved. It was always great and this year there are no changes.
The phone is heavier, but I will take that any day considering the great battery life, which is much better than anything else I have seen on any phone.

Exactly this. Some people just want to justify their decision to keep their old phone, so they bash the new models to make themselves feel better.

Yep. On both sides. Those who wanted a new phone want affirmation that their purchase was worth it. Those who didn't want affirmation they made the right decision.

Ultimately people should just do what they want. If they wanted to upgrade and enjoy their new device...enjoy it and don't let bashers bring you down. If you wanted to keep your phone great, but don't go emptily bashing people who made a different decision as you to affirm YOUR decision.

True but those who are liking the upgrade may be doing the same to justify why they upgraded.

I really don’t see how an upgrade from iPhone XS to iPhone 11 Pro is a must. Where are the games and programs which need that much power for a phone?

IPhone XS is already faster than most of the Flagship Android phones.

IPhone XS users get an upgrade for free with iOS 13.

They can easily hold of for the next iPhone.
- no notch
- new form factor
- 5 G (Fast phone with super fast internet)
- more ram (Apple will not stick with 4gb ram with the competition is already providing 12gb ram this year)
- possible 1TB storage for the price of 512gb this year
- faster CPU
- better camera
- possible pencil support
- screen with faster refresh rate (competition is going strong with this. I am sure Samsung will provide it next year)
- no more lightning connection from next year.

Now that will be an upgrade.

iPhone 11 Po is a must upgrade for those coming from iPhone X / iPhone 8 and older models.

It is rather strange to make a thread stating your new phone is an upgrade, and then you go on to state you can’t really explain why you feel good about your purchase. Whether you feel it or not, the new phones are an upgrade. Whether one is happy with the value per dollar for the upgrade is another matter.

If you are happy, good for you. In a few days you will be lamenting your purchase as you usually do, and telling the forum you are thinking of doing something else.

It is amazing so many here feel a constant need for group validation from strangers.

It’s hardly a must upgrade for older model users. I tell people to hold off til 2020 when I’m asked. Qualcomm will make a difference. Especially for those wanting a phone to keep for 4-5 years. This isn’t the year to get that kind of phone.

I got the pro but unlike these people asking I usually upgrade annually.

IUP FTW!
I haven’t experienced buyers remorse .. I upgrade yearly whether it’s a minor or major change.

do you pay the ~$50 bucks a month?

I just feels Like that’s steep.

600 a year...

I would like iup though. Hassle free upgrade year in year out no questions asked

Count me in with the X > 11 Pro happy with the upgrade crowd. The battery life on my X was starting to seriously suffer, always needing a late afternoon recharge during normal use (chronic Apple Music & Audible fan here). The computational photography stuff appeals, especially after seeing the results of my wife’s Xr low light fireworks pictures from Friday night.

We going on a Disney World holiday next year, possibly the last with my son before he decides that going on holiday with his parents is too embarrassing. The 11 Pro upgrade is partially justified on wanting a great set of cameras with comp. photography to remember it all with. Throw in the extra battery life and a renewed 2 year AppleCare for peace of mind and I’m happy with this year’s upgrade. The radical generational improvements of previous years (my iPhone history goes 3G > 4 > 5 > 6 > 6s > X) are pretty much over as each year now brings incremental and quality of life improvements. I’m fine with this, the wheel does not need to be reinvented every year.

How do you know all those things will be with the next phone? Like the post earlier said, “People every year speculate what the next one will have, and then it doesn’t do it goes to next time.” I have seen every year since the notch first appeared saying that the next one won’t have a notch, but the notch remains. No one but the people at Apple know what’s going to be with the next phone. Be happy for yourself and others. If you chose not to upgrade to a new phone, that’s your choice and if someone chose to upgrade, that was their choice it has no effect on you. I am happy for everyone that made a choice that was right for them.

I agree, I don’t think upgrading from an XS to an 11 Pro is necessary. That’s why I’m on a two-year upgrade cycle.
