My iPhone 6 is starting to show its age, particularly in terms of responsiveness and also battery health so feel it’s time to upgrade.

I’ve decided to get the Pro but unsure which one to go for. I watch a lot of videos on my phone so the bigger screen of the Pro Max appeals but am a bit concerned about how unwieldy it may be in day to day to use especially compared to my iPhone 6.

I went to a phone store and compared the overall dimensions of the Pro and Pro Max...there wasn’t much difference for me but unfortunately I wasn’t able to actually to handle them to see if there was a noticeable weight difference (comparing official weights isn’t quite the same experience as holding them imo).

Basically what I want to know is how people find using the Pro Max on a daily basis (when you may not be watching videos/taking photos) in terms of its size please?

I watch lots of videos and stream on my iPhone 8. I had the 11 Pro for about a month and gave it to our son. I prefer the 6/7/8 form factor because of compactness and pocketability.

I like my Pro Max and frankly after a year of using my XR the regular Pro size became too small for me. So Pro Max it was.

As regards size, you'll get used to it. It's bigger, but it's almost the exact dimensions of a Plus iPhone, and those have been around since 2014. No biggie

I went from 6/6S/7 Plus (all three of them) to an iPhone X, and this year upgraded to the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I love the larger screen!!! I miss the one-handability (yeah, yeah - made-up word) of the X but the iPhone 11 Pro Max's screen is just gorgeous - for everything. Safari, looking through my pics, watching videos, whatever.

That’s interesting as I felt there was an insignificant difference in dimensions between my iPhone 6 and 11 Pro when I put them on top of each other so not sure why you say the 6 is more compact/pocketable? I could understand it more if you were comparing the 6/7/8 with the 11 Pro Max...

The problem with your question is, it’s completely subjective. There is no right or wrong answer. The only way for you to resolve this is to go and actually handle one yourself. It’s a waste of time going by what people say on here in my opinion. But, I hope you find your answers somewhere

I like the smaller form factor of the non-Max. They fit better into my pockets and jackets.

The battery performance of the Pro (10.5 hours) vs the Pro Max (12 hours) (source: Tomshardware) ... the Max will squeeze another movie in there. That may be the deciding factor for you.

My wife has an XS Max ... every time I look at her phone and use it I am amazed how impressive larger screen is.

Again though ... I feel like I am lugging around a surf board with her Max. That drives me nuts.

I have streamed many a series on my XS (handed that down - now I have a Pro). I definitely noticed a difference in quality compared to my 7. That may have to do with HDR10 or Dolby Vision of the content that the XS/Pro series can consume. Could be the OLED screen too with the pure blacks.) Whatever the reason, streaming content is awesome.

It really comes down to personal preference.

Because you are a video streaming user, you may be more satisfied with the Pro Max at the end of the day.

I came from an iPhone 7 ... even if you get the smaller Pro ... with you coming from a 6, its going to feel like a tank.

Unfortunately, no Apple store nearby to easily play around with both. May just have to order both and return one

That is not a bad idea. With the amount of money that you spend, you’ve got to make sure you’re 100% happy with it.

I’ve had the regular Pro for 2 months and am considering getting a Max, but do definitely love that I can use the Pro with one hand.

Pro Max, just for the bigger screen and battery. Had the 7Plus then X, and felt like a tiny screen and worst battery.
Then from X to XS Max and the screen difference was great. Now I change from XSMAx to ProMax and the battery can hold a whole day and a half!

Had a 6+, which I'd still have it the display controller hadn't died. When that happened, I got a X. (That sounds like incorrect grammar, but it isn't.) Had that for 2 years, very happy with it. Then I went into an Apple store and played around with a Pro Max, and found that the size was essentially identical to my 6+, which I really liked. So I got the Max. It works great for me. YMMV. But it wasn't nearly as huuuuuge as I was worried about. It was a pretty good size for my hand. I don't stream to a phone, or use it one-handed. But the only criticism I have is the same I've had for all my iphones lately - they are too doggone expensive. But technically, they're the best.

I went with the pro max also, but I have always had the + size phones. The battery life and screen size is great for watching videos

If I didn't take my laptop along with me as much as I do, then I would probably have gone for the Max. But being able to use and hold the pro with one hand is what sold it to me. The Max was just too big. I am also able to quite easily stick it in my pocket.
As has been mentioned, this is a subjective choice. I went with what is most convenient for me.

Can you guys with the pro max getaway without a iPad?
No. I have a 10.5 inch IPP, and really like it. Even the Max doesn't come close in terms of screen real estate. That said, my IPP does replace my 13 inch MBP quite often. Only for content consumption, though, not content creation. Maybe it's just me, but I can't stand typing on the soft keyboard in the IPP, and the Max is even worse.

I still have my iPad and do not see it replacing it at home and multiple day trips. I am not carrying my iPad with me on overnight trips now though

For me it replaces my 12.9 iPad Pro. I do not carry any bags anymore as no charger is needed also.
